So I finally got my MMS working. Crazy work. I did the old version of iTunes and the loading of the old carrier files... then i tried to change these settings...

Those settings allowed me to have the MMS as well as the tethering and enabling and all that. But I was still not able to send or receive MMS messages...

So i then followed the instructions below...

I power cycled the phone and still it was not working. I then decided to go back into the Network Settings

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

Input the following information in the appropriate fields:

APN: wap.cingular
Username: [leave blank]
Password: [leave blank]
MMSC: [leave blank]
MMS Proxy: [leave blank]
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

Once I changed those fields all back to blank i was able to both send and receive MMS messages...

Oh one more thing... the lady i talked to said she got a call like this yesterday... DO NOT let them contact APPLE or you will be **** outta luck because APPLE will tell them that they are not supporting 3.0 until next week when it is released to the public.

I removed all settings except for the APN and it still didn't work. As soon as I rebooted my phone the option to even send an MMS went away. ANd I haven't called tech support, but I'm pretty sure I don't have MMS opt out on my line. When I had an individual line, MMS opt out showed on my bill but when I converted to a family plan and got family texting (the other phone aren't iPhones) MMS Opt Out is no longer on my bill

UPDATE... phone was acting up yesterday so i had to power cycle. Once I did that, MMS completely disappeared from my phone. So i guess you have to put in the network settings to get the mms to appear, but then remove the settings to actually be able to send... i don't get it. If i didn't power cycle though i would have been fine. Retarded.

UPDATE 2... put these setting back in and power cycled... MMS returned and i was actually able to send a message this time. So I guess the settings do need to be there, i don't know. It keeps changing on me...

Works perfectly. You tether up your laptop, and it uses your phone's data, no matter where it comes from. I did the Starbucks trick yesterday.

not sure if my question was answered, so when iphone is on the wifi network its uses the data from wifi to tether. Or does the phone always use the 3g network to tether?

I just called them and they told me that if they mess with my opt-out codes on my account they will get fired and my account will be suspended. Sh*t!

This is seriously starting to get to me, lmao. It's kinda funny, really...

I just left my phone on over night, I got up, put some laundry in the washer and sat down in my favorite chair with my macbook pro... I then took my iphone just now (i would post screenshots but really, do i have too? with all of my other ones) and tried sending a MMS and it worked. Again, I didn't change anything. It didn't work last night, before I went to bed..... Sooooo what could that mean?

Edit: Now I didn't do anything to it and tried again with someone else and it didn't work. I'll stop reporting these, since it's getting old news, but for people that are trying to get it to work, I don't think it has to do 100% with your account... not for everyone, anyway..

Can someone send me a .ipcc file that works. I cant get it to even load from itunes. After i get one its in a bundle. then what do you do . Im on a mac. I tried everything. please help.

Worked for me but can't get bluetooth tethering yet. I had my texting plan changed a couple of months ago to get MMS working and I was using it for a long time until the second to last beta and the GM. Now I got it back again it is great.

Anyone who actually gets the MMS icon but can't send a message the problem is almost surely your texting plan still has an MMS opt-out. Good luck getting it changed because AT&T reps have been told NOT to change the iPhone plans. The only reason I was able to get mine changed is because one of my friends works at an AT&T store and just logged in and did it.

9 to 5 Mac Tethering Guide

Saw this on 9to5mac.com today and I tried it on my lunch break and it worked great!

It tells you to go through the trouble of installing the old iTunes pre-release and all that. I decided to just try it out using the most recent iTunes 8.2. I installed the ipcc file I got from the program it linked to, restarted my phone and it worked right away using both bluetooth and usb cable.

I'm just scared of using it though worried that AT&T will somehow be able to distinguish my data usage and charge me a buttload of cash.

Any idea if they have the ability to do this?

My MMS was going in and out. I called AT&T and bitched a couple of times. The last call I made, the rep told me to turn off my phone and she'll send a update to my sim card. My MMS has been working perfect since.

i can MMS just fine, and i can tether over bluetooth.

but

when i try to tether over usb, itunes opens and trys to sync with my phone, and if it does my tethering option in my settings suddenly disappears. Any ideas?

I gone through all the steps here and everything works great except that my macbook and iphone won't pair with bluetooth. My macbook can see the iphone but the pairing just fails and I'm never see the code on my phone. Anyone know what the problem may be?

I ended up just clicking continue instead of waiting for the code to show up on the phone and it worked so never mind.

OK I got it to work on windows once. After that I get the same error again when I try another one. Whats going on.

any of these work with the GM? if so can someone point me in the right direction. i haven't been able to get this to ever work.

edit: ya im dumb :-D

so after downloading numerious ipcc files and going back and fourth with none of them working for mms or tethering. I did a restore from a back up i had when i used the first ipcc file in this thread and now my tethering works both bluetooth and usb im using it right now. This is crazy dont know what it did but im happy.

here are my carrier settings

APN: wap.cingular
USERNAME: blank
PASSWORD: blank
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS PROXY: 66.209.11.32

I'm pretty much done trying to get MMS working on my phone. I've tried the methods described, still zip.
But for AT&T to say they must manually do this, is a load of dung. Not only do they not care about what their high paying customers want, they'll also lie to us to.
Yes, I can prove they do not need to individually do this. Proof? Have you ever gotten a text message from AT&T? Yes, we all have. LIke when 2.2.1 came out, we all got that message saying to upgrade.
So now then, if they can send a text message to all iPhone users surely they can also do the same in the sql to change a setting for all users.

Its typical of a large corporation to not care of their customers desires, only to protect their profits. Sad really, isn't it?

Yeah I have been lightly using tethering through USB myself, very seemless.
Good question if AT&T has the TECHNICAL ability to determine if data is being done through tethering. Knowing them, they invested in that before other things *cough*MMS servers*coughcough*.
Then again, there are quite a few people with other devices that are tethering without that feature and are even only paying $10-$15 for media net, and from my understanding AT&T has yet to police them either.

Where do I locate a .ipcc that works, I have everything set up with AT&T but I think having that file would be the last step. Also I searched and read that the way to upload it onto the Iphone is the same way you get 3.0 GM on there, is that correct? Thanks for your help.

I followed the 9to5mac instructions and the tethering works like a charm in fact I'm posting to this using the tethering :) by they my AT&T carrier is 4.9 is that from the latest build i hadn't noticed that until now

TheRiseofTheFal - are you jailbroken too? I only ask because your screenshot has iPhone where it normally has the carrier name

Same here, I have no problems with tethering via USB or Bluetooth. However, I still cannot get MMS to work :(

That happened to me as well.

I updated the carrier settings again, and got the option back. I then set up tethering via bluetooth first and the setting hasn't disappeared even after connected via USB.

The MMS settings did enable the ability to send MMS message, however any mms message i try to send fails.

Just load up the ipcc file again. Comes right back. Didn't even take a reset for me. Still can't MMS though.

This works great with the GM3.0!!! One thing I did notice is if you try to tether with a machine that has the newer iTunes it will wipe the Tether option on the iPhone. So it looks like the newer iTunes will remove the option from the iPhone. I suspect that going forward that will be the case with the newer releases of iTunes. Use the free tethering when you can as I think it will be patched soon(at least for free use)

I called AT&T three or four times and each time the rep either didn't know anything about the 3.0 software or was adamant about the fact that the 3G does not support MMS. I'm not sure how I can make this work, honestly. They either are uninformed or misinformed. It's ridiculous. I just wish I could talk to someone who could either say "no we can't do that" or "yes I can help you with that" instead of wasting my time with people who don't know what they're talking about.

The simplest solution is just finding an old tmobile phone and calling At&t and having them move you over the PDA plan. The guy I spoke with did not even ask for the IMEI number but jsut took my word that I had a jailbroken side-kick. The whole process took less than 5 minutes and mms has been working perfect ever since.

By the way the only mms setting I have put in is the: wap.cingular
none of the other stuff has to be there in order for it to work. I am getting incoming and outgoing.

Ok, I've got MMS working without calling ATT and without switching SIM cards with a non-iphone device. I've also done this on two iphones, and it works on both. Here are the steps that I took.

Next Step if MMS still isn’t working
1. On your iPhone go to Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network and use these settings for MMS
APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

2. Try sending a MMS, it should fail. Once it fails reboot your phone.

3. Now go into Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network and the username and password that you just entered before the reboot, should be blank. Leave them blank.

4. RE-APPLY the same ATT_US.ipcc file to your phone, with the previous instructions above.

5. You should be ready to go.

Notes: I tried this on my two iPhones, and this worked to get MMS on both working. Here are the details.

Details: We have two iPhone 3G on a family plan, with the $30 per month feature “Messaging Unlimited for Families“. I made NO calls to ATT to get them to switch anything. I didn’t swap my SIM card into any other phone. I did this same process on both phones, and it worked on both. Your milage may vary. Good luck.

I was tired of looking everywhere for links and such, so I complied all the links and instructions for Mac and Windows for the 3.0 Firmware updating, and MMS/Tethering enabling on on my site here.
