The iPhone OS 3.0 Gold Master will most likely be the one given to everyone so thus the 'if you are not a developer, you shouldn't be using it' argument doesn't really apply anymore. They just have it a little early.

no it won't. the GM is for devs only.

Right, but it will most likely be the same thing with a different build number probably. I don't even think the GM build has the security feature of having to have your UDID activated on a developer account to use it.

I've heard of plenty of people installing the GM build who don't have registered IDs. This may be meant for devs at this point but you don't have to be one in order to put it on your device.

I have 3G and i successfully have MMS working and Tethering (over Bluetooth).

I had originally tried to tether over USB, but for some reasoning the menu for tethering had completely disappeared. I reset the network configuration (in the cellphone network menu) and i got the tethering option back.

The interesting thing is, for MMS, the only field i have set in the settings is APN, i have it set to wap.cingular, every other field is left blank(??).

I have tested both sending and receiving MMS by sending an email from my gmail address to <phonenumber>@mms.att.net and it was received instantly, as was my reply from my phone to my email.

I'm afraid to try tethering with USB because of my menu thing disappearing, but as it is right now i had it successfully tethering over bluetooth and that is good enough for me (and it's really fast, way faster than the speeds i realized with PdaNet).

When you do SHIFT + click on check for update....it only lets you use a firmware file and not a carrier update file. CTRL + click is the same thing.. How can you get it to use the carrier file when it keeps asking for a firmware file type?

if you read through the posts you would see that you need to have the PRE-release of the itunes software to be able to update with the IPCC file

Anyone know if there are different settings for GoPhone customers? It's the same media net, so they should be the same, but I can't get it to work to save my life.

Bluetooth tethering, either. USB works flawlessly.

CONFIRMED

I got mms working by installing iphone 3.0 gm
Installing the other version of iTunes and updating the Carrier file

at this point no mms worked

You'll need to do the following for MMS to work:

4. Call AT&T Tier Two Technical Support at 888-892-9760 press option 1

5. When talking to representative explain that you are a registered software developer for the iphone and need to have your phone activated for MMS.

These are the things they need to do to make it work

The rep changed me from a iphone texting plan to a regular texting plan and told me to shut the phone off and restart and MMS now works!

So I finally got my MMS working. Crazy work. I did the old version of iTunes and the loading of the old carrier files... then i tried to change these settings...

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

Input the following information in the appropriate fields:

APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

Those settings allowed me to have the MMS as well as the tethering and enabling and all that. But I was still not able to send or receive MMS messages...

So i then followed the instructions below...

These are the things they need to do to make it work

a. Make sure you are on a standard texting plan and not the iphone texting plan
b. Enable Media Net and WAP Push
c. There are two areas in Snooper that need to be checked off to enable MMS
d. They need to do a push OTA (over the air activation)

I power cycled the phone and still it was not working. I then decided to go back into the Network Settings

APN: wap.cingular

MMSC: [leave blank]

MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

Once I changed those fields all back to blank i was able to both send and receive MMS messages...

Oh one more thing... the lady i talked to said she got a call like this yesterday... DO NOT let them contact APPLE or you will be **** outta luck because APPLE will tell them that they are not supporting 3.0 until next week when it is released to the public.

MMS Does Work (Verified) BUT! iPhone Plan is Probably the Root of the Problem...

When I left those fields blank then the Photo Icon doesn't appear under Messages (when trying to compose a message)....

The Fields I have populated right now are the MMSC and MMS Proxy as well as ADN (which is there by default)....

I don't have an iPhone Plan...I put my SIM into a Samsung phone and ensured I could Browse to the MediaNet website...I then checked to see if I could Send/Receive MMS on the Samsung...

I then Placed the SIM into my iPhone and IT WORKS...Obviously if you are on an iPhone Text Plan you are going to be Screwed it Seems (my actual Voice Line SIM is not working with MMS; the SIM I am using came from my LapTop Connect Card (haha!)); The SIM I had been using in my iPhone is in a Samsung Phone now and Cannot get to the MediaNet WebSite (Start/All Programs/MediaNet (icon))...I get 403 Forbidden....

I removed all settings except for the APN and it still didn't work. As soon as I rebooted my phone the option to even send an MMS went away. ANd I haven't called tech support, but I'm pretty sure I don't have MMS opt out on my line. When I had an individual line, MMS opt out showed on my bill but when I converted to a family plan and got family texting (the other phone aren't iPhones) MMS Opt Out is no longer on my bill

Now My Primary Line has MMS...

I don't have an iPhone Plan though, so on my Standard Device it worked to begin with...If you put your SIM into a regular Phone (in my case a Samsung BlackJack), and try to go to MediaNet and get 403 Forbidden then You aren't going to get MMS working....

I called Tech Support and Told them I couldn't get to MediaNet on my Phone (which in their Records is a Blackjack). They did a Few Things...Told me to Turn Phone Off, wait 5 seconds, Turn On, then go to MediaNet...It worked...

I then put SIM in my iPhone and MMS now works...Again...only Settings are MMSC and MMS Proxy....ADN is there by default....

AT&T No go.

I called tier 2 and they shot me down.
Got Bluetooth Tethering to work. Very Exciting and works great!
Sad to say no MMS.
Hard to be patient.

I installed a pre-release iTunes 8.2.0.13 and it keeps crashing. Anyone care to help? I really want MMS on my phone.

for all of you that got this working, do any of you have the iphone text plan on the website. I have called twice and they will not change anything for me.

Took the sim out my iPhone and placed it in my old HTC 8525. Called AT&T and had them enable MMS. Sent/received a couple of messages with my 8525. Took out my sim and popped it back in my iPhone. Followed the settings for MMS and now it works. Had a problem with visual voicemail, but was able to fix it.
