Did it turn out to be the NEC monitor issue as posted on Apple discussions?
No it was a doublesight ds-245w (samsung panel)
I didn't think at the time to try other monitors; but I did try different ports (didn't help) for the mice and monitors.
Did it turn out to be the NEC monitor issue as posted on Apple discussions?
It appears so. I think there is a conflict with 2 different ATI cards. This is unfortunate - I guess a cheap nvidia would be the answer for a second card.
10.5.7 is getting closer. A new developer seed hit. Of course it mentioned work on graphics drivers. I wonder if this affects the flashing at all.
Is anyone having an issue with their card (mine is an XFX, getting 2.5GT/s also) where the monitor displays white snow after the system wakes from sleep? I have to manually turn off the monitor and then on in order to get the system desktop again, my main monitor is a Gateway FHD2400, oddly enough my second monitor (1901 from Dell) doesn't seem to have this issue.
I was looking at the Apple forums on the mouse jump issue...
Another affected user with an Apple OEM 4870 found the problem occured on the DVI port when connected to their selection of samsung and philips monitors. This was particularly interesting as the monitor I was using when I saw the issue was a doublesight display ds-245w which has a samsung panel at its heart.
@ zoppa: what brand monitor were you using???
Anyone else with samsung or philips monitors having problems on the DVI ports? If you have one of these could you do a quick test?
If this is a monitor brand thing then maybe a software fix in the drivers might solve it. This might explain why the issue isn't seen in XP (bootcamp).
Anyone able to get two DVI monitors working at the same time?
I've read the entire thread and then skimmed through it a second and third time. Lots of reports of works flawlessly or the like but no specific mention of getting 2 DVI monitors to work simultaneously.
Or even better if anyone has been able to use an ACD 30" on the first DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapter to a 1080p TV without problem.
My experience has been great, no problems (other than the 2.5 GT/s PCIe speed). Tests in Cinebench show the card as running slightly faster than my Apple 8800 GT card. No bugs in apps, all runs very well!
jjhny, just wanted to thank you for posting such a concise post. I read all of the material, but a simple "Get THIS EXACT card, use THESE EXACT drivers, and follow THESE EXACT steps" post was exactly what I needed! I just bought the cables and the card from the locations you posted. I have a first generation, 2006 Mac Pro, but from what I'm reading here that won't make a difference.
One question - you say you had both cards in your Mac, then booted into windows, then restarted again. Was there a reason for that?
Good luck with it. Sapphire 4870 still working great - I'm very happy.
excuse me, hi, did you say apple 4870 or the pc version, because i'm going to buy the new graphic card from apple, so i want to know, is the apple ati 4870 card are not working with samsung tv's, because i'm using samsung series 6 32 inch brand, and i want to know if it's going to work with it or not??
before i had a resolution issue because of the cable i was using dvi to vga, then i bought a new cable dvi to hdmi, and it worked using the second cable, is this the same issue you are talking about with the new version ati 4870 or there is another issue??
Very odd that my "snow" issue always fixes itself instantly and others it does not.
I have a 30" ACD and a 2407 Dell.
What are you running?
Which monitor where you on?
Now that I think of it...I have never seen the issue on the 30" Apple display, just on the Dell.
Be funny if Apple "optimized" drivers to work better on their own monitors.
But they would NEVER try to force you to buy their products through artificial prodding, would they?
