The problem though is that when I boot from my other card, and run "ATIFlash -i" it ONLY lists my x1900. If I try using another number (it was "1" when it recognized the 4870) it will just give a message that there is no card there.

I just got the card two days ago, I just called the place I got it from and said that it seems to be DOA and I can't get it to show up on the computer at all. They are already processing my return and I ordered an XFX 4870 (one that is on Cindori's list!).

Hopefully that will yield better results!

@jshbckr

Did you try to plug in the second dvi an adptateur dvi-vga...
By my side, it's stopped the blackscreen problem'

Also I did the flash with atiflash under a dos bootable cd, with only my new 4870pc card to be flashed plugged in.

Another Working ROM

This is for a Diamond 4870 512Meg version.

I am using the Mac Pro motherboard power connectors (mini 6) to power it on a 1st gen 2.0 ghz 4 core.

I don't get the power warning, and all I did was flash the ROM. I'm not using an injector or anything. I bought it specifically because it looks so much if not exactly like the ATI card.

I have not checked the part number on the attached photo against mine, but it looks exactly like it.

I just got it put in. Pulling the DVI connector from one and putting it on the other works and swaps the desktop to that connection.

Anything else anyone wants me to try?

Rom for Diamond Radeon 4870

Attachment didn't work...here is the completed ROM made with piccolo's .py script.

**IT IS NOT A ZIP. Just remove the .ZIP extension, I'm on my Mac and too lazy to do a real ZIP. :)

This Diamond (if it looks EXACTLY like pictured) is AMD reference design card. And there was no need to create custom ROM ;). All of reference 4870s 512MB are working with Apple original ROM (easiest flash ever).

I tried it without flashing

I might retry it later with the Apple ROM. I thought I had tried it with the stock ROM and it didn't work.

It works in PC and Mac now, does it work that way with the stock Apple ROM?

no, I didn't try that, but the VisionTek card is already on it's way back to where I got it. It wouldn't show up in DOS or in Window's hardware device list. I just figured I'd return it as DOA, and just start clean with a XFX card that has a high success rate.

Ahh, today is a good day.

Got the e-mail that I was credited back the money for my "DOA" card (shh....)

and I got my XFX in the mail! I went home for lunch and popped that bad boy in, burnt a new UBCD with the modded XFX 4870 ZWFC E.0 ROM from Cindori's ROM pack. (Although, I did rename the ROM file to just "mod.rom" instead of "mac modded.rom" because I had some issues with the longer name in DOS, it was easier for it to be short)

Although, due to the fact that I have an x1900 XT, I had to use the Molex from my disc drives, and ended up powering one disc drive (for UBCD) from an old external hard drive case I had around!

Flashing took a couple minutes and now my Mac Pro is up and running with the 1GB 4870! WHEW!

Hi,

I'm hopefully getting either a XFX ZDDC or ZDFC soon.

I'm tring to get things together ready to flash it.. Am i correct in thinking this is the correct ROM?:

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/7324217/

Also I know i need 2 power cables to run the card. I'm hoping this is the correct cable: http://www.applemacparts.co.uk/store/product_info.php?products_id=65524 Could someone confirm?

I have 8800gt at the moment, could i use the cable from that card aswell instead of buying 2 of these?

thanks for your help :)

Help Please! Sapphire hd 4870 1GB rom for mac pro

Hi All,
Just purchased a sapphire HD 4870 1gb to flash for a mac pro. Anyone know where I can find the a suitable rom for it.

It looks like this newer design:
tarjetas-graficas-sapphire.-hd4870-1gb-gddr5-256bits-pci-e-2.0-1g.jpg

SAME AS THE ONE IN CINDORI'S GOLDEN GUIDE BUT A 1GB VERSION

Go to 1st Rominator's post in this thread. You will find link to pipomolo42 method there. This is the way to make custom ROM for your card. Dump ROM from your Sapphire, download original Apple ROM from this thread and pipomolo42 script and in few seconds you'll make yourself your own ROM.
Should be faster and more fun than wait for someone who will link you (or not) right ROM.

theres an even better ROM-making description in the Golden Guide, but for some reason people seem to ignore it.

I've Powercolor 4870x2 card. I'm using 10.6.1 SL with QE/CI (-pci0 works great)

I'm gonna upgrade 10.6.3 version. Which ROM should I flash it and install patch before upgrade?
Thanks

Is it safe...?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a used version of this card:

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB PCI-e Video Card HD487AZHFC

I've searched the forum, but the only problem that I could see with this card was post-flash and it was a fan issue that was resolved with a re-flash of the card.

This is going to go into my MacPro 3,1 Quad 2.8 withthese cables once I get them.

Anyone know of any issues with this card that would make me think twice about buying it?

I have a ZHFC (1GB) and I flashed it with with a ZDFC (1GB) ROM that someone posted pretty early on in the thread. It has been working great for me for almost a year now with no problems.

How did you fix it?

YEAH !!!!! Card Flashed !!!

I did not gave up, and finally got results I was awaiting !

Big UP & THX to Leonyd and Cindori !

I will post a review for Flashing this 4870 asus 1go ddr5 graphic card that comes with a bios dated 3 March 2010 !

I bought it on thuesday 4 of May, this week, and it takes me over 30 hours to find out what was going wrong and to perform the flash, but now everything is running and the card rocks !

I can now finally go to have a shower and shave my face !

Hi Yak! I recently obtained this card as well (at least I believe it's the same http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121376&Tpk=asus 4870). I tried using the rom that Cindori created for you, however I got the same error you did. How did you end up getting around it? You said it took many hours, I'd like to save myself that time (if I can). Also, I'm posting my original rom to see if it should be compatible with the original you posted.

I should additionally add that I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.3, I have the ATI card in slot 1 and my NVIDIA 8800GT in slot 4. Also, I can't boot into OSX in this config without going into safe mode, I'll have to put the NVIDIA back in slot 1 and see if the cards being in the slots they are is causing that issue. Also, i noticed my BIOS version is different than yours:

no go

I just gave 3.60 a try and still no go, any other suggestions? Yak said he got it to work with 379, so I'm hoping he will chime in soon...

Also, I just read through your hackintosh setup Cindori, love it! I'm tempted to do this myself, I just need to justify the cost to my wife :)

I found Asus EAH4870:HDTI:512MD5:A.zip in the golden guide forum, but I have a 1GB card, and that one is a 512, would this bios affect the amount of memory that could be read? (assuming it's compatible).

Also, I just put the 8800GT back in slot 1 and all is well, so at least I know my computer still works :)
