I am having this issue with PUBG as well. I get great FPS 75% of the time. I open up my inventory (not demanding really) and i drop to about 20 fps. Or sometimes just out of nowhere I will drop quite low. Same happens with Overwatch. HAS TO BE SOFTWARE/DRIVERS
Yeah. Hardware issues typically wouldn't go away immediately after toggling between apps/resolutions, only to return under very specific software-related circumstances (loading new map, switching screens). It would be unlikely to have a hardware issue that would cause such specific behavior in such predictable manner. Hopefully we get a fix from AMD before long...
Is there software that can increase the fan speed in Windows? SpeedFan doesn't seem to work.I can confirm that The fps drop is caused by thermal throttling. On The 17.1.1 bootcamp drivers the fan doesnt react at all. The video card reaches 94 degrees celcius. Setting The fan speed to 2700 with macs fan control keeps The temps around 75-80 and The fps stays consistent.

Apologies, I had no idea Macs Fan Control was Windows too.
We're probably talking about two different issues. What you are referring to is certainly software and I experience it occasionally. However I also experience random frame drops when doing certain things in certain games that shouldn't occur. I will try ramping up the fans and report back.If that is true, then why does changing the Display Mode from Windowed to Full-Screen and back to Windowed fix the issue?
I did a 2-hour Overwatch session yesterday and I launched the game at 12fps, switched from Windows to FS and back to Windowed, and the game played at a solid 70fps the entire time. I can't believe my GPU was throttling displaying a static screen at launch and not throttling while actively rendering content for 2 hours straight.

Try 17.7.2, no issue at all with the i5 at least.
Did you install from http://www.bootcampdrivers.com/ ?Try 17.7.2, no issue at all with the i5 at least.
I´m also on the i5. Refuses to install any other driver with error 173.
yes, just don't install the ReLive at the end of the driver and software installation, is an optional software used to record your gaming, install everything else including the crimson software.Did you install from http://www.bootcampdrivers.com/ ?
Fantastic! Thanks guys!
Also if you have random slowdowns. Download msi afterburner and tick disable ULPS in the settings!
I'm confused, isn't ULPS a crossfire feature? Imac has only one gpu
ULPS stands for Ultra Low Power State - energy saving feature. But I don't think it causes any fps drops. It's more like AMD processor function, not the GPU.
I installed newest unofficial drivers yesterday, will post soon results.
And Hello to everyone![]()
Just tested new drivers and the fps drop issue seems to appear only in 5k. But @1440p everything runs fine. Any solution/ideas?
Am I understanding you correctly, that you are trying to game in 5K?
I don't think the card is up to that under any circumstances.

Why not? Most of strategy games run fine in 5k in 50-60 fps until fps drop occurs. Then I have to alt-tab the game and it runs okay for next 5-10 minutes. I checked temperatures with GPU-Z and they're not higher than 80-85.Am I understanding you correctly, that you are trying to game in 5K?

Ok, sorry! I was thinking of CoD or such FPS, which will see a very low frame rate consistently. Why not? Most of strategy games run fine in 5k in 50-60 fps until fps drop occurs. I used drivers uninstaller in safe mode also. I have no idea why only on 5k I have this problem when both temps and fps are fine.
@Granaten82 are you able to play any game with 4K/5K res without any fps drops?
