You’re Not being Being very sensible though. There is nothing wrong with your disapproval for the notch, but do you really think that Apple is going to eliminate the notch in just one year from the time the first iPhone X launched?

The notch was a poor design decision made to allow for a new tech to be implemented ... I was hoping the notch would go when they work out how to do that tech change.

Either way - the notch is a deal breaker for me after having been iPhone since the 3.

Why even start a thread on something that’s a completely exhausted topic. Apple made it very clear Face ID is their future. For the record, Craig Federighi (Senior VP of Software engineering) even stated that they experimented with touch ID under the display, and a scrapped that in favor of Face ID.

Go grab that S9 then
I used the Samsung Galaxy S9+ side by side with the iPhone X. I've been an iPhone user since 2013 and I'll admit that the Galaxy S9+ has better hardware, especially in the camera, display,RAM and doesn’t hold ugly `Notch’.

It was also faster than my iPhone X in things like web browsing. I still chose the iPhone X because it retains resale value better.

I’m sick!

Then please bring in display Face ID or they figure out a way to put these things under the screen or whatever..... IDK

Honestly I don't find the notch that bad at all.
I don't get what all the fuss is about.

I don't mind the notch in landscape while watching movies. Once engrossed in the movie, I don't notice it.

This is 1st generation Face ID. It will improve to maybe no notch. But, it takes time. I find the X my best smartphone to date---

The notch haters must go crazy over the television networks putting their logo on the screen or ESPN with their scrolling scores across the bottom or the news channels with their news updates scrolling across the screen. After all, all of these are taking up part of the screen.

Actually, once you zoom, you're likely to loose the sides or top & bottom of the picture anyway (depending on the aspect ratio of the media). For example, given that ESPN would be a 1.78:1 ratio, the top & bottom would cut off, so they probably wouldn't see the scores scrolling along the bottom anyway. Which of course makes the notch hatred double confusing to me (you're zooming in and deliberately tossing out some of the picture right off the bat and then you complain about the notch removing some of the picture? Probably less than you intentionally tossed out by zooming?)

I've just had to learn to bite my tongue and realize that not everyone cares as much about their media as I do. Or in the same way I do. There's a reason pan & scan movies used to sell. Some people care more for having every pixel on their screen illuminated than maintaining the director's vision. And that's OK. I just won't attend movie night at their place.

Not to mention a lot of movies have black bars going across the top and the bottom.

The Notch never really affected me in landscape mode. For one, it never distracted me away from the contents that I was watching or it’s such a minuscule issue, you seemingly adjust to it the more you use the iPhone.

Either way - the notch is a deal breaker for me after having been iPhone since the 3.

Since sensors have to be incorporated on the front of the phone, and, necessarily, those sensors cannot be blocked by active screen pixels, the choice was:
  1. Have a bezel the entire width of the phone (the sensor space required only requires about 60% of the width of the phone) to hide the sensor array
  2. Allow the phone to use the remaining space at its discretion

It's basically 'less active screen, or more'. They chose #2, and I for one am glad they did.

I've been an iPhone owner since the original and it baffles me that something as minor as notch/no-notch will seriously push people away from a phone. There are so many compelling and practical reasons to consider when deciding on iPhone or not-iPhone, a little extra display space next to the sensor array is not one of them.

I’m sick!

Then please bring in display Face ID or they figure out a way to put these things under the screen or whatever..... IDK

See above: that's unlikely to ever happen. This is why other phone manufacturers are still limited to choice #1 or #2 above.

And what will you go to when all the flagships are notched?

It’s like anything else ‘ You’ll get over it’
Under screen Touch ID would have been a sure winner but apparently Apple is looking forward to AR etc
Meanwhile AR is years away from being a meaningful reality

I Don’t know about that. From all the readings, I think tech manufacturers are struggling with the fingerprint sensor under display (Samsung included) with accuracy reading rates, power consumption issues and screen protectors have posed alleged issues.

Just like when they removed the headphone jack...now people wont stop talking about the notch... get over it or just get a new phone, stop spamming forums with your personal opinion...PLEASE
