Setup of CS 3 Beta

1 History State - same as before
100% Ram
Cache level 8

first run 43 seconds (nothing running in the background dashboard disabled)

second run 35 seconds (nothing running in the background dashboard disabled)

exact same settings, also on quad g5 (quadro fx, 16Gb non-ECC, 2 raptor 74Gb on seritek 2Se2 as boot, barracuda 750Gb as scratch)

CS2: 40'' 1st time, 33'' 2nd time
CS3beta: 41'' 1st time, 34'' 2nd time

so CS3beta is a little slower than CS2 on my quadG5, and overall no significant difference between MacPro and G5 (expecially at the same clock speed, see previous posts). Waiting for Leopard and its 64bit (will CS3final address more of my 16Gb of RAM ?!!), this CS3beta is not really interesting for the time being at least in terms of speed as far as PPCs are concerned.

Sorry... What?

You have 16GB of RAM and, especially... you have a Raptor which is what, 10.000 RPM on your Quad G5. And this was 40 seconds.

My 4GB RAM and 7200 RPM hard drive on a Mac Pro made 30 seconds. How is that not a sinificant difference? ...and CS3 is a beta which is probably only getting faster on Intel.

Seems significant for me and my cheaper, more silent and less energy consuming Mac Pro.

This benchmark (especially with 1 history state) hardly uses more than 2 GB of memory and, since RAM can hold all the required data, the HD is doing nothing. So its basically how fast the processors and RAM are.

Thanks. Corrected.

But it still seems significant to me that my Mac Pro is getting 30 seconds :)

Funny, more than 8 minutes into a mac pro 2.66 1 gb with CS2, i was especting 3 minutes at least....

Lower the history states to 1 and add more RAM for your Mac Pro.

The problem was into the system, the Apple Store, have used a Disk Image to install MacOsx, i've installed all the system again, and now runs smooth.-

I have just run the test again this time using Esperance DV configured as scratch disk.

CS 3 Beta
Quad G5 with 5 GB's of ram
1 History State
100% Ram
Cache Level 6
Esperance DV set to 2 Gigs
Time 10.7 seconds

   really???

My times

1 history state and 70% RAM allocated to PS in all tests

1) PS CS2 on 1.5GHz 15" Powerbook with 1.5GB RAM: 3:03
2) CS2 on 2.66GHz Mac Pro with 2GB RAM: 1:24
3) CS2 on 2.66GHz Mac Pro with 2GB RAM under Boot Camp: 1:00
4) CS3 Beta 2.66GHz Mac Pro with 2GB RAM: 36 seconds

No special hard drives, separate scratch disk, etc. I'm psyched!
The app startup time on CS3 is sooooo fast.

no speed gain with ramdisk for me

Here is the link for other Quad users to to try the same thing.

I tried to reproduce simie's results with a ramdisk (2Gb with Esperance DV) on a quad G5, with CS2 or CS3beta, 100% RAM cache levels=6 or 8, with or without a fresh restart, with extra scratch in addition to ramdisk or not (btw the script cant complete with only the ramdisk as scratch on my quad), and the starting test image on the scratch or elsewhere. I got no major improvements of my results (see my previous post), basically in the low 30s".

Any hints on how to get your incredible 10" simie ? My quad has 16Gb RAM and a very fast boot drive so I should at least be able to reproduce your results. Or is the QuadroFX (with its far from optimal drivers on Tiger) slowing down everything in my case ???

I have disabled dashboard which did improve the performance of CS 3 Beta.

Like I said the only scratch disk was the ramdisk. I disabled the hard drive completely as a scratch disk.

I will rerun the test again in a moment.

Just ran the test again -

Exactly the same settings as posted earlier.

First run 10.8
Second run 10.5

Stopwatch always used to time test.

Powerbook G4 1.25Ghz 1GB ram. Following all instructions..

CS3: 11m

Can't wait for the Mac Pro :)

Hello,
have someone posted the benchmark result with iMac Core2 2,33Ghz?
I didn't find no one.

Mac Pro is here..
Adobe PS CS3 Beta. 2x2.66Ghz, 250GB HD. Following all instructions.

OEM 1GB: 3m28s
Upgrade to 3GB: 0m36s

Wow, are you kidding me? I was floored at the difference.

I had tried this on my iMac g4 1.0ghz, 512mb ram, 17" model a while back and I thinking it was around 18 minutes. Just a laugh for all you people out there complaining of a minute or so. But, it still worked.
