That seems really slow. One guy reported a Mabook Pro that ran faster. How many history states?

My MDD Dual 867, 7200rpm, 1.75GB did it in 6:32 (75 history states) and 5:05 (1 history state).

I find it hard to believe that time is accurate. If so, then they are quite a dog at Photoshop!

I'll do another test tonight after a fresh restart. I had just finished doing a compressor render test, that may have skewed the results.

I don't suppose you use LightRoom?

Ran it again, got 3:52.

Keep in mind I only have 1gig of ram and don't have any special scratch discs setup. Is there another thing I should try to maybe get a more accurate result?

I hear 1GB of RAM is not enough in the Intel Macs...at least for intense use like this. No scratch disk is also a factor. Reduce history state to 1. That makes a huge difference (and is an easy way to keep results consistent).

6 minutes 40 seconds

P4 2.8 ghz
2 gigs 400mhz RAM
WinXp Pro
CS2
SATA as scratch 1 (dedicated)
SATA as scratch 2 (dedicated)
IDE as windows/photoshop install drive

Mehhhh...

2:23 on my Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz w/ 4GB SDRAM and X800 XT. Seeing as I just read that a new stock Mac Pro came in at 4:08 I think I'll stick with my PPC at least until Adobe gets its act together...

Don't forget that the guy with the new MacPro only has 1GB of RAM, and that there's only 2 sticks of RAM with that (2x512), so it is running in 128-bit mode, not the full-bandwidth 256-bit mode.

:D

Best thread, EVER.

You have got to get more ram in that machine as quick as possible. We the people need to know what's going on...

Maybe start a "donate to max my ram out" thread.. and let's see what this pig can do with 16GB.

Power Mac G4 Dual 867
1.25 GB RAM
Two internal striped drives
Photoshop CS2

Time: 5:58

:(

I feel REALLY dumb but I can't get it to play. When I try to click the play button, a crossed-out circle appears over that button, record, and stop.

I have the action and image loaded up. (I don't use Photoshop much...) :D What am I doing wrong?

Twirl the action down. It's the next one. ;)

1:46

Dual 2.3GHz G5 with 2.5GB of RAM, bootdisk as scratchdisk, history states 1, one app and 5 widgets running in the background. Photoshop CS2 9.01.

1:07:124

Give or take a few femtoseconds.

Dual 1.8 G5
3GB of RAM
10.4.7
GeForce 6800 Ultra
7200 RPM drive
All the lights in my house turned off
windows closed
water turned off
doorbell disconnected
while holding my breath

2 seconds!

4:10 to finish the action on an original PowerMac G5 1.8ghz w/ 1gig ram and an ATI 9800 Special Edition.

The Mac Pro smoked me by 2 seconds.

Incredible....I can't wait to see what the results are once Adobe releases a Universal Binary.

My results:

MacBook Pro Core Duo @ 2.0GHz w/1GB RAM: 7:58

iMac G5 @ 2.1 GHz w/ 1.5 GB RAM: 3:11

Massive difference.

If the new Mac Pro took just over 4 minutes, can you guys imagine what it is going to be like once the Universal Binary is released? That thing is going to scream!!!!

And of note, I am running a slightly older version of Photoshop...version 7.0.1, so I am sure that makes somewhat of a difference.

I feel REALLY slow now :(. I got 14 minutes 12 seconds.
14" iBook G4
1.33GHz
768MB RAM
60GB 4200RPM HDD
History states at 1
but with many programs running like safari, menumeters, thermograph X, iTunes, mail, mactracker ect.
I think this justifies the MBP I'm going to get soon :p

1.67 G4 Powerbook; 64MB vram; 1GB RAM Photoshop CS2

I'm wondering why it took your system that long to do this test. A G4 should be able to handle this type of task much more quickly.

3:13

9:13:00 start
9:16:13 finish

1.5 GHz G4 Powerbook
2 GB Ram
CS2
1 history state 70% memory usage
safari, date and time system pref. running in the background

Thank god for ram!
