It's November 6 for MacBooks and January 15 for MacBook Pros.

If you'll please, could you briefly summarize the specs we can expect to see in the next MacBook Pro? (Pray forgive; I realize there are a number of posts rife with speculation, but I'm looking for a level-headed assessment detailing the most likely features.) I'm particularly interested to hear any guesses you might have regarding specific configurations and their price points. Thanks!

Regarding MacBooks November 6 & MacBook Pros January 15, 2008

Where did that come from? Another rumor forum? Not questioning like a dick, just curious and planning! :)
Perhaps you can search other posts by me. I've written so much about why when that I am pooped out. It's really not rocket science if you think about it.

No thank you. Except for the 2.6 & 2.8GHz 45nm Penryns. :)

Both are worth waiting for. You seem to forget the SR MB will have way better X3100 IG plus able to address 4GB of RAM. This will be the biggest upgrade to the MacBook since it started last year.

I completely forgot about the graphics upgrade with SR. Yeah I'm just going to have to be patient here lol. Thanks :)

I am with you....on that one :) but hoping tomorrow or the 30th also :)

Yeah Apple would make my dreams come true if they released it tomorrow... that's pretty sad that that's all of my dreams. But it makes sense that they don't want to take away from the Leopard release. Although, an update on the most popular mac on the same day of the leopard launch would be quite the spectacle. I'm hearing lots of people saying they're waiting for the update and I'm sure everyone would hit up the stores tomorrow and pick up a new MB. But my money's still on Nov 6th.

hopefully it is the 6th im dieing to get my hands on my first mac :) ive only got little bit more money to get and im there (my payday is tomoz 26th woooot) :)

I really want a Macbook, but I just can't get one! I'm too affraid there will be an important update.

The thing is, I'm in the worst possible country for internet (Belgium). We have these stupid limits and have to pay €1/GB. In university there's no limit though. We can download all we want during class at an incredible speed. I want to take this opportunity to download as much as I can.

So what's the chance of a new Macbook with better GPU and battery life? Those are the only things that matter to me. But I'll miss so many downloads if I wait another two weeks:(

Honestly, Multimedia's said it so many times that it must be right.
Apple wouldn't be so mean as to let him be wrong, imagine the stick he'd get from MR forum members..
And I also agree with his logic :)
:apple:

^ lol at Belgium, too much chocolate and not enough Internet.

yeah, they are definitely showing their age by now. can't think of many scenarios where buying the current model would be a good investment anymore.

well, given the GMA 950 I wouldn't have considered a macbook to be a good investment even a year ago to be honest :p the 3100 is really the absolutely lowest acceptable solution.

Too bad the Pro's don't come in a smaller 13" variety to be more portable. Or that the Blackbook doesn't come with a dedicated GPU as BTO option.

OK Guys,

I'm ordering a MacBook Tomorrow, Therefore, a new one will be announced the day after my return period as expired... You can all go to sleep feeling a little more confident about macbook updates now. :D

just a thought...

I'd love to see the MBP price go down a bit... but maybe that's just me.

$1,599 would be a sweet spot.

MacBook ends at $1,399 so maybe they could add in another 17" model so it'd look like this;

MacBook Pro: 15" Model #1: $1,599
MacBook Pro: 15" model #2: 1,799
MacBook Pro; 17" Model #1: 1,999
MacBook Pro: 17" Model #2: 2,199

I even thought of the MBP starter price going down to 1599, but I don't think that's happening...
oh well... if that ever happens, CMI.

I bought one two months ago because I needed a consumer laptop then, and it had to have OS X. Not much of an option!

I have always used windows, but with the release of leopard i cant help myself. if i keep saving money at my current rate (which is pathetic, but i don't have a job. I'm only 14) I will have enough for the low end macbook by Thanksgiving. Is it worth it to wait for January 15, to see what happens? I plan to do some light gaming, but nothing extremely resource heavy.

I'm also curious to know if the MB will be glossy only or will have the matte option as the MBP...

I really don't think we'll see an update until well into next year.

I think Apple have adopted a new update strategy. The longer a product goes without update the more money Apple can make from it. While component costs will likely fall during that time for Apple, those costs are not passed onto the consumer - hence the unusually long update times for the iMac, Mac Mini, iPod Nano/ Classic and Mac Pro.

Hmm, well if they have had reports of "trackpads with unusual features" etc, and if the macbooks specs get bumped up and they have a trackpad that can do nifty things a macbook pro cant wouldnt this take away from macbook pro sales? so imho i think they would be updated at the same time, but i am unsure of which date.

The 12"Powerbooks used to start at $1599 :(

Those were the days...

Being new to this whole guessing game, I do have a question...

I just established the fact that if I buy a MacBook tomorrow from CompUSA, I would be able to either get a price adjustment down to the reduced price or trade it for the new equivalent if there are new MBs on November 6th (within 14 days of purchase, apparently). That being the case, wouldn't there be a huge number of people doing that? With the new Leopard release, MB sales today have to be huge. Would it be a smart move on Apple's part to invite that many people to return their new MBs for an upgrade?

I really want to go buy one tomorrow, but am wondering if I should wait another week just in case the November 6th prediction might be off by a week for that precise reason...

I'm also curious to know if the MB will be glossy only or will have the matte option as the MBP...

I think Apple may be doing glossy with ever machine they have sans the pro models. The MBP and the ACDs will be the only machines with a choice of glossy or matte; the ACSs will hopefully stay matte. I personally love the glossy screen for my own MBP but wouldn't buy a glossy ACD.

Keep crushing those cans. This is the century of the digital kids man. When I was 14, the cheapest computer on the market was just around $1400, and you couldn't do much with it. A good film camera ran you back about $500, which was more reasonable, and the choice I went with when I started my career as a creative pro. Now-a-days, a good machine will set you back the same $1200 - $1400 but you can do so much more with it, and spending $500 on a DSLR or HD camcorder is nothing after your parents realize the benefits. Heck... there are 17 year olds working for the AP now.... what has the world come to.

The 12"Powerbooks used to start at $1599 :(

Yes they were. And the G5 towers started at $2000, $1800 with a student discount. Don't forget the two budget Macs were the eMac @ $999 and the 12" iBook @ $999.
