No, I responded to the same individual, poematik13, three times.

I'd been away from MacRumors for a long time. Not sure what posessed me to drop by but I'd totally forgotten that Apple still sold the Mac Pro.

People buy these things? In 2016?

Are these kinds of threads even necessary and constructive anymore? How many of these do we really need?

I love these threads. They're like crack for me. I don't have much to say in them, but I love reading the back-and-forth. the bickering is often hilarious. Someone needs to create an animation of a cage match between MacVidCards and Flat Five (I kind of lean towards MacVidCards on that one, but Flat Five is… quite persistent).

I think the attention Apple gives the Mac Pro line is exactly proportional to the amount of profit it generates. This infuriates me, but it's no great surprise.

Are we still at this..."damn you 6,1 mac pro?"
Whatever the case....you will need to move on because sooner or later Apple will discontinue support for 5,1 and then what? Move on to 6,1...if 7,1 isn't coming home.

Some of it is the "damn you 6,1 mac pro" while other parts are what to do when the 5,1 is no longer a viable option.

I share your frustration...i mean...sure we would like to have better specs and updated hardwares...but at the end of the day: it's your choice to stay or move on.

That day is coming. I figure the EOL for the cMP will be very near to when we need 12G/16G/?G performance from a PCI3 3.0/4.0 solution. Basically, the kind of data I/O required for 8K production and beyond. Personally, I can't imagine any of my clients adapting 8k before I retire and use a Mac strictly as a media server.

I just spent most of the day doing rough compositing of 4K streams in Premiere on my cMP. Never a hic cup and the client was very happy with how quickly things were moving along. We'll see if some of the compositing ends up in AE for finishing or just stays right in Premiere.

To realize the internal hardware inside the least expensive Apple Watch is identical to their mid-priced to the most expensive Apple Watch paints a fairly clear picture of the mindset of the present bigwigs attending corporate board meetings at Apple. I can believe minutes of a corporate meeting of present Apple bigwigs include something along the likes of, "Oh, sure they will. Our Apple fans'll buy just the band for a couple thousand dollars more."

They bombed Flux out of future revenue, I can only imagine doing so so as not to appear like they missed the boat on another technological innovation of their own.

My hunch is Apple has no innovative thoughts coming down the pike; nothing to consider soberly throwing billions at. With Steve gone and not worried about incurring his wrath, and tens of billions overseas to play with, everyone is taking it easy and relaxing while they work and play during the day at Apple. Smoking the best cheeb …, a free ride; nothing to worry about.

Are you planning to stop supporting Apple?
