That's not even possible. You can start the same applications, but the underlying system will be different. T2 aside, there's still different hardware in the newer MBPs in comparison to older ones which in turn requires different kexts to be loaded and may cause different behaviour. Might be as easy as rebuilding the kext cache, might be an issue with an application and the loaded kext or something different entirely. In a perfect world things would be... well, perfect. But it happens. If it would be an hardware issue causing it, it would show up on every unit sold. Heat related issue on T2 would have far more serious issues, as we've seen in the past with GPUs. Again, if it's so clear what the issue is, it would be easily fixed.

How many have you tried? I'm not using Logic Pro, but I've yet to work on a unit that has audio issues. Could it be a Logic bug? I have quite a few students using MBPs and have yet to hear complains about these issues. So this is not a "every unit has it" situation. Of course people on forums will gather and complain, while the majority of users are happy. Apple will deliver a fix as soon as they can, if it's their fault. Maybe it's caused by 3rd party software, then this party will update the software causing it. And even if it would turn out to be a non-fixable problem, Apple will issue a repair/replacement program.
Nope.... I ran both from the same external drive using *exact same system* obviously, tried on both 2012 and 2018 i9. And the symptoms are the same for all users across various T2 devices and various audio interfaces, the only thing being common is the T2 chip.

It takes 3-4 weeks to get a BTO here, and it took apple 2 months to grant me a refund for the previous one (due to flickering display on 560X beside audio issues - i dont use chrome).
Getting 13" and Mini next week probably, will see how they behave.

Repair/replacement program - oh yeah that will do me great after 6months, a year, on a 5k machine? Nah.

I didn't say every unit has it, i said apple has QC issues with 2018 units and that MacBooks shipped prematurely with the VRM bug.

No doubt you can boot the same installation from an external drive, but when you do, the system is loading different kexts required for the specific hardware. That's why you can use a single external drive and boot on iMac/MacMini/MBP/etc. That works as long as the required kexts are present in the FS and can be loaded. So in the end, the running system as a whole is different and specific to the hardware. In case of your 2012 that might mean it loads kext A while the 2018 loads kext B instead of A and both are loading kext C. If B is causing trouble that will never show up on the 2012 because it's never loaded there.

Still, it's not a 3rd party Kext in any case so it should be fixed by apple, long ago.

Anyway, will try the Mini and the 13" when i get them - hopefully they'll behave better than the i9 i returned.

So, audio-dropouts that people fix with disabling Wi-Fi and automatic time adjustment that has been going on since T2 launch is fine by your accounts?
Buying a T2 machine means playing lottery of it being useless for audio and there hasn't been a fix in what, a year? How is that acceptable? Kernel Panics?

They didn't fix plenty of things yet with T2 machines and its been quite a while.

It is obvious you are very disgruntled about your experience with this. No need to keep on about it. Like me and others have said. Every manufacture has issues with a new product and will have to work it out. Which it seems many of the issues have already been worked out with the latest updates.
[doublepost=1545004324][/doublepost]I've had my MBP 2018 VEga 20 for 2 weeks now, no issues with any Kernel stuff, reboots, lock ups, etc. It's been solid. Now my dock has had some issues which I am working with Caldigit on.

what issues? i had to ship mine to have it tested and they replaced it, haven’t received a new one yet, (nor do i have a mac to test it with)

When I turn the laptop on, it gets stuck at the apple logo with no progress bar. I have to unplug the dock to get the laptop to boot. It seems to do it 90% of the time. They originally told me it was my usb hub causing it. But I removed that and it's still doing it. They may need to replace it.

Just for the record I have owned a late 2018 Mini since Nov 18th, and had absolutely zero issues (outside of a corespeechd problem that was resolved with just logging in and out of Siri). No coil whine issues, no bluetooth problems (Apple keyboard and mouse), no display aggravations (multiple monitors tested), nothing.

If I did, the unit would be returned to Apple, no questions asked. Fortunately for me, however, an Apple store is less than 15 miles away. And my model is the base i5 unit.

I just received a replacement ts3+ but cant test it since i have no machine yet lol.

Have you ever booted from an external? Try to reset your boot drive to internal in system preferences.

You tell us.

You seem to have put more effort into complaining here than in resolving the problems.

First step would have been to pick up the phone, call Apple Support, and tell them you have problems with your new purchase.

AKAIK, you never did that.

Pick up the phone and call support. For what exactly? If this is a hardware issue and the computer is new, why in the world would I call support? Especially if others on the forum experienced the exact same issues (especially the biggest being the Bluetooth issue)? What would that solve? If this is hardware related, a simple return would solve my problem. I will wait until 2019 to see if apple rectifies the issue. I would rather have a product that works, than one that was pushed out to the assembly line without proper QC. Use your common sense bud. I am not the only one complaining about the exact same issue. Take a gander on the forum.

- To make sure it's not pilot error
- To see if there is some workaround
- To see if it is a known problem
- To see if there is a projected fix date
- To get an RMA for exchange
- To see if there is some specific compatibility problem with your Bluetooth device(s) or your monitor
- TO LET APPLE KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM SO THAT THEY WILL FIX IT

I don't get the resistance to perform the logical first step is resolving your problems.

You paid the "Apple tax" for great support. But you refuse to even try it.

I wouldn't either especially if it's a new computer. If i'm faced with these issues now, what might be in store down the line? I'd send it back as well, especially after dropping some serious money on it. And there are several on this forum who own a previous Mini and bought the 2018 model and are having issues with it but not their older Mini.

But the clock is ticking and he loses leverage if he has to wait for an RMA replacement. If it exceeds so many days he might not be able to return it. I think he did the right thing in sending it back. Too much money spent for all those problems. Reading about all of this stuff has held me back from buying one right now so i'm still using my 2012 Mini.

This is some great bait,
The model you post in your other thread doesn’t even cost 3400 dollars, I checked. It’s closer to 2200.

$2,199.00 to be exact.

OP never even bothered to tell US what model monitor he is having trouble with. Strange if he is looking for a solution.
[doublepost=1545085182][/doublepost]
I did research before putting in an order of $3,400

So, which is it? $3400? Or $2200?

The Russians, at least, try to keep their "facts" straight. ;)

Seriously, do not hold back a purchase due to this "less than scientific" forum thread, that doesn't even pass the sniff test. I am glad I didn't come on here first, because I would be a bit nervous from all of these strange, and seemingly glaring issues. I jumped in and just got the computer I could afford and needed - and I have used my Mac Mini everyday since around 11/8 - and have had NO issues. I did some drone footage yesterday, came home and edited a movie in about 30 minutes, showed it off to my wife on the 2nd 60" 4k monitor I have hooked up, and this machine didn't even blink. Blazed through it - edited the music and video without hesitation, all the while using a Blue Tooth speaker that didn't skip or have dropouts. I did notice the internal GPU was at 80% use, RAM up to around 14GB, but didn't need a eGPU for this work either. So that was adequate for now, likely add one next year.

So again, this particular forum thread is not a good representation for the new Mini's, and definitely don't give this more weight into making a decision. If you want to hold for other reasons, that is totally fine - just make your own decisions.

To be honest it seems you looked for issues that people have been having and you decided it was going to have them. I don't know.

I have seen most of your posts since you joined and you just seemed to have your heart set on the purchase failing.

Sure it may have had the problems but your story, so much seems sketchy about your story and clearly, others see it as well.

Return it and move on is the only real answer, you don't want to try and resolve the issues so there it stops.

Not an external, but I have bootcamp setup. It's set to the Mac HD.

Buddy, I was pairing the same Apple Magic Mouse and Apple keyboard. I spoke to numerous people from apple. They never acknowledge a problem. I do not want to send out my computer to fix. I want a computer that works if it is brand new. I hear the bluetooth is a major problem with this device. So why not just learn from others on the forum and if there was no solution for them, why would there be a solution for me?

HUHHHHHHHH? Dude are you okay? Yes, $3,400 taxes included in CAD. Actually, $3,480.85 to be exact.

And that was the initial one I ordered. I cancelled that order and re-ordered one with a higher SSD storage. Check the screenshots you trollers.
[doublepost=1545097545][/doublepost]This thread is getting out of hand, so let me conclude with this: 1) My computer had problems. Similar problems to the others that people are mentioning on the forum. 2) I will continue to monitor if the company does anything to rectify these known issues. If they do, great. Maybe I will even re-purchase the mini again (because I love my 2014 mini and really love the simplicity of the iOS). If they do not, well, we know what I will be going back to (PC).

Good day everyone. Spread love, not hatred.

Well, how were we to know you're a hoser? Or that you re-ordered?

So you went in to an Apple store, and asked some questions. Sounds like you asked "are there any problems with the new Mac Minis" and I guess they said "no".

Too bad you didn't think to take the Mac Mini with you and have it looked over at the Genius Bar.

Since you've already sent it back for refund... (right? You said you had it packed up the other day) why are you still here posting? You're going to get a PC.

Haha, good luck with the Geek Squad.
