Apple could add something useful instead of the camera button nobody asked for. Like 16GB of RAM, the X80 modem, and a 1-inch main camera sensor. The hardware on the iPhone is quickly falling behind if they don't add these things. But Apple probably doesn't care. It's all about the money!

Many things happen without users ever asking for it. No one ever asked for a Smartphone to be made, right?

I don't understand how Apple is falling behind, beyond just the numbers game which isn't really a way you can compare between different products. What is the actual detrimental effect of the numeric/numeral lack?

Crazy how many people in this thread are defending Apple.

Two years in a row we've had useless buttons added to the iPhone that nobody has asked for. Someone suggests we get a RAM bump up or better modem instead and they're told they're being unrealistic 😆

No wonder Apple get away with ripping us off every year.

Take a look at the Chinese flagships.

Why not use some of the other 48 different ways to open the camera app instantly? A few lines of code is all that it takes.

What's up with the anger towards the button? It's a new input method. If you can't see how it can be useful, it says more about you and your imagination than it does about the utility of a button.

Don't like it, don't use it. There's an off button for the button.

It’s useless as a camera button since the entire phone moves when pressing it.

Some comments cannot see past their collective nose it seems. The camera button is limited in its present action for a reason, a new input method/action.

Some still has the home bar displayed after iPhone X had it since 2018. I suspect one day the option to turn it off will be provided. Here is hoping for iOS 19 or an update in iOS 18. It’s distracting.

😬

I like the new buttons. I always fumbled with opening the camera. The new button isn't perfect. It sucks at changing settings. But it's fast. And I like having a flashlight button instead of a ringer toggle that I never ever used.

I'm all for adding ram, improving cameras, whatever else. If we wanted it all today, we'd probably end up with a $2k starting price point, which apple knows they can't do. So, here we are. For me, the 16 pro max is still the best phone on the market.

Apple found out that after adding 3 lenses to the camera, the next big thing is to add side buttons that nobody will use most of the time... Action Button, Camera Control, next year I bet they are going to add another one.

Nobody asked for the stupid action button.
Thanks for replacing my dependable reliable silent switch with a random button, crapple.

Why didn’t they add a 3-inch sensor, or 32GB RAM, or a 512Hz display instead?

Removing the action button would save money so they could add those features.
The action button is nice. It works reliably.

You do know that the smartphones with a 1 inch TYPE sensor don’t use the full sensor size? The optics are a limitation due to size. Besides the iPhone’s 1/1.28” main sensor is basically a one inch sensor only the full sensor is used.

Ever heard of Chinese phones?
