The 2023 remake of popular game Resident Evil 4 is available from today on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Capcom released the Resident Evil 4 remake on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC back in March.

Compared to the original 2005 title, the updated version includes overhauled graphics, new characters, and updated gameplay elements like crafting items and ammo from resources.
Cutting-edge technology and creativity have breathed new life into this standout entry in the Resident Evil series. With juiced-up visuals and a reimagined story, this new title aims to honor its predecessor's successes by digging even deeper into its core message. Dodge death with a greatly expanded repertoire of character actions in this heart-pounding experience!
Resident Evil 4 can be played on iPhone 15 Pro models thanks to the A17 Pro chip, which features hardware-accelerated ray tracing and improved GPU capabilities that make console-quality gaming possible. The game is also compatible with iPads that are equipped with an M1 or later, and all Apple silicon Macs.

Resident Evil 4 can be downloaded for free from the App Store, and though the full IAP unlock is usually priced at $59.99, the main game can be bought for half that price until the discount ends on January 17. The Separate Ways mini game is available for $9.99, while an additional DLC pack is priced at $14.99, and several weapon packs are available at prices ranging from $2.29 to $7.49.

Its kinda sad that release of one AAA remake on Apple ecosystem would make a news. The biggest company in the world that cannot leverage its standing to entice more game developers. Sad.
Is it profitable to cater to iOS and Mac OS users who like to play AAA games? If it were the case, certainly more studios would be making games for them.

Yeah, I (and I’m guessing many others) gave up on Mac gaming years ago. It was clear then Apple had no desires for gaming on Mac, and every once in a while there’s noise about Apple supposedly getting serious about gaming and lots of faithful get all warm and fuzzy inside.

There are certainly lots of mobile games out there, but those who enjoy the AAA game experience are still SOL on Mac. Slim pickings for titles, and many of the ones available come to Mac months or years after PC and console release. Pretty much as things were when I decided to ditch Macs for gaming years ago.

Took an age to download all 64GB of the Mac version. Run it on my M3 Max base 16" side by side with the iPad Pro 12.9" (M1), the Mac version lets you set all the custom graphics settings while the iOS does not, iOS seems to lock at 30fps with an unchangeable graphic preset.

It runs and looks absolutely amazing on the M3 Max. At this price it is a steal.

Yeah I'm pretty disappointed that the iOS versions don't let you change graphics options at all (especially when RE8 let you customise everything). Would love an option for lower res but 60fps...

runs like absolute **** on iPhone lol. But hey, it runs.
Also so "cross save" is a pain in the ass. You have to manually up and download the safe games and it takes a while. Why not make it automatically??
Cause apple didn't make framework to do that, apple isn't interested in AAA gaming, only "mobile" subscription gaming.

I'M guessing this game is for ARM Macs only. No Intel Chip.

It's sad we start to see some decent games for the Mac and they are all ARM Only.

Next year is the ARM only New macOS going forward. ALL Intel machines will be dropped.

In favor of ARM Macs with Sky High RAM and SSD Price upgrades and ZERO upgradability or repair on your own.

Your Mac Studio Power supply burns out in the middle of London? Forget it. your screwed. Slave to Apple Store Sky high repair costs. A $2500 paper weight.

Yeah Apple will invade the corporate workplace with un repairable Macs. When you can buy a PC Power supply for cheap and install it yourself in minutes No Software Lock outs.

I heard a theory is that the RE8 on iOS has the issue of the game quitting itself due to not enough RAM, when the user played with a settings too high. Meaning the game may be able to handle that high settings most of the time but whenever it can't, the game quits.

RE4 is an even more action oriented game than RE8, so maybe Capcom thought it is more important to maintain stability than otherwise, especially at its launch state. I imagine weeks or months down the iOS version may get better optimization and will open up some settings. I personally feel the worst is with hair and edge of Leon's model, the blurring is just distractingly jarring. The enemies and environments are instead pretty fine, for a tablet.

The Mac version though is just something else. It looks truly next gen on my M3 Max 16" screen, even just a lantern with its HDR lighting. It feels very weird to see a AAA game running this well on a MacBook.

If I buy the Mac version can I also run it on my iPad or do I have to purchase the iPad version separately?

it can't even hold 30 fps. The phone would trottle in 3 minutes at 60 no matter of res.

The graphics on the iPhone 15 pro max is horrible they isn’t console quality it’s like playing a game on low settings, instantly deleting it

I think AAA gaming is just getting started on Apple platforms. With M3 and A17 Pro, Apple finally has GPUs that can keep up with the latest gaming cards and consoles. The M1/M2 were close enough to allow some gaming if you didn’t care about the latest features. Such as games released for Apple a year after they come out.

The game feels as powerful as a SteamDeck, but hardly produces any heat. Imagine if Apple releases a MagSafe controller or a gaming focused handheld.

Possibly even buy Sony’s PlayStation devision and put M-series in the PS6 since Apple executives have been Sony fans forever. Although I think it is more likely to see partnerships between Apple and PlayStation.

Anyone with a MacBook Air M2 (base version) could tell me if it runs and at what settings?

You realize this remake still has only PS2/PS3 level graphics, right? You get decades-old games because that's what the hardware can support. Until the hardware can run modern games, we're going to continue to see ports of old games.
