Hello, I have since 26.09.22 the IPhone 14 Pro Max and the stuttering when closing various apps I had 1 day later, I wrote to Apple support and I was advised that I should set up the Iphone as a new Iphone what I did, after 1 day again exactly the same, have it set up so far 5 times as a new Iphone and 3 times with a backup reset. I have written very much with the Apple asupport, phoned and it could never be said to what it is. I have always said that it must be a memory problem but I have never been taken seriously. Yesterday I was in the Apple Store Vienna (Austria) and told everything at the Genius Bar and he said: After the reset everything should work again but if I want it will be sent in. An answer where I felt as a customer again not taken seriously. I can on Saturday again to the Apple Store and then we look at what was done and will report back here. It is really the first IPhone with this problem, and that since IOS 16. Greetings Robert

Welcome Robert! Yes, it is a software bug. It existed on all version of iOS 13 and was finally fixed in iOS 14.4. It returned briefly for a few versions in iOS 15 and now it has been present in all versions of iOS 16. The people working at the Genius Bar typically do not have a procedure for something like this. You are more likely to help by submitting feedback at https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/

It's an iOS 16+ thing related to ProMotion, without any fix so far. Makes games unplayable. And despite hundreds of reports on this both here and elsewhere online, Apple's busy trying to sweep it under the rug on their official channels, of course 😂

Can confirm that this is still an issue on 16.3. Maybe even a bit worse than on 16.2, which is an achievement in itself. Submitted a bug report but i don’t have much hope.

Can anyone who had this issue cleared up on 16.2 and then updated to 16.3 let us know how it’s going.

Yes. The problem got a lot better for me in 16.2 and was almost un-noticeable. It is now back with a vengence in 16.3 and happening more often than not :(
Thanks for taking one for the team. I’m just gonna stay on 16.2 since it has been really smooth for me since I last updated 1+ months ago

Like ProMax14 said above, thanks for doing that and letting us know. I’m sorry to hear it hasn’t worked out too well. 16.2 has been very smooth with no issues on my 14 PM so I’m going to stay with it.

I’m thinking this stutter issue may not be fixed until iOS 17 later this year.

I am so glad that we aren't forced on to updates. All of my Samsung phones forced updates after a certain amount of time. Of course that might have just been the carrier doing that.

Yeah, I feel iOS 17 needs to be just a maintenance/stability update

I haven't had a single stutter in the past 3 days after coming back to my iPhone 14 PM from my Samsung Galaxy Fold 4.

Not a single stutter in 72 hours on 16.3...smooth as butter so far. One can only hope!

Mine took a good 5-6 days before the stutters started showing up on my 14 Pro Max. No difference between 16.2 and 16.3.

What happened to those that provided feedback to Apple? There were few people who said their status changed to fixing in the future release. Any updates from there?

Mine still shows none for recent similar reports.

Did you have any stutter previously on 16.2 or other versions?

Yup. Ever since I got the phone at launch. Have been cursing myself for upgrading ever since.

I grew to like the Fold 4 quite a bit more as a result and only kept the iPhone as I am in the ecosystem with an ipad, macbook and Apple Watch Ultra.

16.3 actually feels buggier to me than usual... On the lock screen without any notifications, if you swipe up, that "No new notifications" prompt is just all over the place now.. hate it; kills my OCD!
I noticed this as well (on both of my iPhones): The notifications prompt looks super bugged.

I really haven't noticed the stutter on my 14Pm since upgrading, but maybe I've just stopped noticing it? I have, however, noticed how buggy the lock screen is when first scrolling thru notifications. They become rectangular while scrolling thru them, and then return to the usual shape. Very odd.

Otherwise, 16.3 seems pretty quick compared to 16.2 for me.
