I really don’t get why it’s an issue. Surely you’d just use the EarPods that come with phone that have a lightning connector, or use wireless headphones

Based on a poll that (currently) says 28 do and 26 don't. Ok then...
Oh, but that isn't the point.

OP gets to feel validated and smug and accepted.

Apple isn't going to change on this; everyone knows that. The point of this thread is to let OP know he/she isn't alone in his/her opinion.

I’m glad you pointed this out, because this shows you the lack there of quantitative data that actually shows for those who don’t frequent a tech forum on the matter of their opinion on the 3.5 mm Jack. Even though the 3.5 mm Jack is still appreciated, I still Bluetooth has made the transition easy for some, and others who still prefer wired headphones. The argument goes both ways.

I ordered a dongle tonight... I have no use for ear buds. You aren’t cutting the cord with wireless headphones, you are simply moving it. Instead of a cord coming out of the phone, you have another cord coming out of the wall and another device to charge. In the end you aren’t saving yourself from a cord, or hassle. If anything, having to worry about the ear buds running out of juice, slightly increases the effort and inconvenience.

I highly recommend you try out the AirPod or the jaybird wireless ones.

Without trying if you try to judge then that’s a bit unfair. I say this from my own experience. I used to think exactly this before trying out the AirPods. Took the plunge last year and have never looked back.

That member makes a point though, because in order to charge the AirPods, you’re still technically charging them through a wire with battery life to monitor (Versus just using wired headphones when the Jack existed _and_ you could charge your iPhone at the same time).

Even though the AirPods are a great device, and I own a pair myself, it is one extra thing to charge with be 3.5 mm Jack being deleted. Albeit, it’s not an issue, it’s worth noting.

These are the people who are annoyed by no headphone jack...
1. Musical purists. Where wired will sound better than bluetooth, but... you can still use the lightning port and it sounds great but you need a dongle.
2. Stingy people.
3. Perfectly fine headphone owners. People who own great headphones and don't see why they have to give them up.
4. People who want to charge and listen at the same time.
5. People who just like to complain.
6. People who think a dongle is a PITA.

I'm in the other camp. I think the sound quality is now good enough on Bluetooth for the vast majority of users and BT headphones are cheap enough that if you can afford an iPhone, you can afford a set of BT headphones.

The day I went wireless via the airpods with my iphone was truly liberating. I'm not joking when I say that it was massive in terms of changing the ease of use of my phone both at work and on the go. Those god damn cables used to constantly get in the way.

In saying that, I still used wired for my computer, because I'm not moving around and for Keynote or Video editing there is absolutely no lag at all and no chance of cutting out suddenly. I would like to dump them though for the sake of less clutter on my desk.

In the past, Apple removed standards where superior ones existed. In the case of the headphone jack, there is not yet a superior standard for replacement. However, I do agree that it's done, and we need to adapt.

In the case of comparing wired to Bluetooth, Bluetooth isn’t meant to be ‘Superior’ to wired, it’s meant to be convenient, and still offer adequate sound. The trade off being customers generally are gravitating towards Bluetooth, because it’s freedom of wires, and most aren’t audiophiles either. It’s been this way for years.
