That’s Why I want a 14” MBP with a Core i5 and No GPU (since they are not gaming machines) no one with 13” MBP is ever complaining of throttling or overheating.

its just the 15” and now 16” MBP owners with i7 and i9 SKUs who think they just bought something faster than a Gaming desktop and want MaxPerformance always on 2 external monitors.
There are definitely different versions for different folks, and that's why the different configurations exist. The real question is why not just buy an iPad Air if you don't need a decent GPU? I'll probably wait until all models go back to scissor keyboards, and then see what my needs are.

I am considering on returning mine because I think I made a silly purchase. I’m a student and it’s so much heavier than my previous 15” and it’s just too big for what I need. I want to get the 13” now, but unfortunately the biggest factor of me getting the 16” was because of the faulty butterfly keyboard. I wish Apple released the 13” redesigned keyboard alongside of the 16” so I would of never needed to go through this.
I am excited about the possibility of the 14" with a scissor keyboard. :D

Returned mine finally today. A surprisingly easy process, it took all of 2 minutes in the store.

Before I returned it:
  • I made a complete Time Machine backup of my MBP 16" to an external disk.
  • I booted my old late-2013 MBP in Recovery Mode (hold Command+R during boot) and restored the entire machine from the Time Machine backup. Then I checked the machine booted and all files were in the places I expected.
  • Then booted my MBP 16" into Internet Recovery Mode (hold Option+Command+R during boot) and used Terminal to securely erase the disk (instructions online e.g. https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...function-of-disk-utility-on-el-capitan-sierra). Disk Utility won't allow secure erase of SSDs, but you can do it from the command line. I had to erase the original partition first and reformat as a non-APFS filesystem using Disk Utility.
Already loving being back on my late-2013. The keyboard is like typing on a pillow, there's no ghosting issue on the display, I like having MagSafe back, the TrackPad is a sensible size with space to rest my fingers and thumbs around it, no more silly TouchBar, real function keys... and I have two peripherals connected directly by USB-A. I hope this machine lasts for many more years.

Now I will hunt for mid 2015 15inch MBP with discrete graphics!
definitely will NOT buy 16inch after hearing all the complains!

Why? I had a 2015 15" and the same issues with fan noise when warm such as when driving external monitors exist. And the keyboard is sort of mushy. Plus the screen is dimmer and has a smaller color gamut than the 2016+ units. So make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.

Having owned the 2012 13", 2013 15", 2015 15", 2018 15", and now the 2019 16" I can say I like the 2019 16" the best.

I returned mine The reason is because the iPad Pro was doing everything. Surprised. I had edited a raw red 8K video on iPad Pro using LumaFusion. Ok, yes. it took a bit longer to export than a MacBook Pro But it still did it.

I don’t know about everyone else but the 16MBP has been a huge letdown for me.
Speakers having that “popping sound”
Noisy fans when editing in FCPX/Lightroom
Flickering screen when using external monitors

For close to $4,000 after all the configurations I made I can’t justify this purchase and I was wondering if anyone else feels the same way..

before this I had a late 2013 Mac Pro and 2012 MBP and the goal was to consolidate devices. I’ve had nothing but headaches with this machine.

I picked up a 12.9“ iPad Pro earlier this year and it’s easily my favorite apple product I’ve owned in a long time. Guess I’ll be doubling down on iPad only until further notice.
If you can do everything you need to do on an iPad, why would you spend 4K on a computer?

You’d think the 16” MBP was the worst product to ever exist judging by these forums.

Well this thread proves two things I think: 1) Some people have unrealistic expectations or are simply ignorant of their own needs until they get their computer then blame the computer. 2) That the no one computer is for everyone.

Pretty much this. The 13” Air is a more reasonable purchase if you needed the additional functionality of a laptop over an iPad. But if an iPad gets the job done for you, you never needed a 16” MBP to begin with.

I can see why someone might go with an iPad over a MBA because of the battery life, weight, 120hz screen, thermals, ease of use, Pencil support, etc.
