I have exactly same problems. I am 40 and never had any eye/sight issues before.
I just cannot use mini 6 - big eye pain leading to headache and even dizziness.
I actually did have this problem in the spring of 2020, when I had purchased 3 different 27" moderate cost computer monitors in a row (and had to return each one) as I had headaches with each one of those, but I had never had this issue with anything from Apple. And I just bought an iPhone 13 Mini along with the iPad, and that screen is great, no issues, and that is a 5.4" screen!

Yes, that’s even funny because I was planning to use mini as a magazine reader but i prefer to read them on my iPhone 12 small screen with all this scrolling and zooming...
i also don’t think that is a size related problem. More like matrix or display/refresh/scaling?
I wonder if that’s something that can be upgraded via software or it will just manifest itself to some and will stay as it is...

Returned my Mini (due to the Jelly scroll issue) and got a replacement. Not only does it have the same scrolling issue, but even worse… the new unit has a screen defect - its hisses and pops and literally squeaks with even the lightest touch, all across the top half of the device 🤦🏻‍♂️ It hasn’t been glued on properly.

It pains me to write this, but I have owned ever Mini since the original, except for the Mini 3. I have loved every one of them. When the Mini 6 was announced, I eagerly pre-ordered it and picked it up at an Apple Store on Saturday. It is great in every way, except that I seem to get eyestrain every time I look at the screen for an extended period of time. I have see no jelly scrolling or any other malady described in this forum, it is just that my 65 year old eyes seem to generate a headache when I use it, and that is with glasses. I still have my Mini 5 since I have yet received my trade-in return kit for it. I copied my information back onto the "5" last night (i had previously wiped it), and the screen looked totally different and doesn't cause eyestrain. It just doesn't irritate me the way the Mini 6 screen does. I am afraid I may have to return the Mini 6 and keep the Mini 5. Is it just me or is this is an issue for many other readers of this forum?

It IS the jelly effect. If your eyes aren’t “fast” enough to perceive the effect as a bending of the lines then you will instead just perceive it as an excessively blurred line. Hence the inevitable eye strain.

The screen itself is effectively out of focus so the problem isn’t helped by your glasses.

Assuming what you say is correct, does this condition appear to affect only affect some screens (bad QA/QC) or are virtually all them this bad, so far?

Is the jelly scrolling really that noticeable? Is it something you can miss?
Yes, it's something you can miss. But it's also something that can be highly irritating and that can make you nauseous. It's very subjective, because human visual perception has a lot of variation between individuals. There's no substitute to trying it out yourself.

Every iPad mini 6 that currently exists has it. It would need at least a hardware revision. Best case scenario is an iPad mini 7 next year that silently fixes it.
Anecdotal reports on MR seem to indicate that NOT every Mini 6 exhibits jelly scrolling.

I've been poring over the threads on this issue and it seems like the effect varies in intensity from unit to unit. Some are alarmingly noticeable, others, barely evident, while still others don't have it at all.

I suspect that part of the perception involves a person's eyesight and sensitivity to that kind of behavior.

Are you sure they didn't send you a cat in replacement?

Thanks for the perspective. My wife's and my mini 6 arrive today. The threads are concerning, but good to know that there's a chance that our unit could not have it/we could not perceive it - so we will have to review and see what we get.

I'm also returning mine.. I might get the basic iPad.. I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max and latest iPad Pro 12.9" .. I'd like something to read comics on and just basic games... would the basic iPad do that well?

People who claim to not have the effect have posted videos clearly showing the effect. They just can't see it themselves, though they can still perceive it as being low quality or blurry or uncomfortable.

Not everyone who has stated they haven't experienced the effect have posted a video. I clearly stated in my previous post that a person's visual perception is a contributing factor to how prominent the effect is if it exists. But to claim that every unit exhibits jelly scrolling is going a bit too far IMO based on what I've seen and heard reported.

The screen is worse (not fully laminated, no antireflective coating, only sRGB color gamut), but if that doesn’t bother you it will do the job.

To be as accurate as possible, no one who claims their mini 6 doesn't have jelly scrolling have provided any evidence to support their claims. Whereas everyone I've seen post a video allegedly showing no jelly effect has actually proven their device does have it.

At least for me, reading comics on the regular iPad is better/more comfortable than reading comics on the mini thanks to the bigger display.

So, i purchased a 256Gb Space Grey Wifi iPad Mini 6, well the device is beautiful, form factor/size is perfect, im just completely underwhelmed for paying pretty much $1000CAD for this thing.. Screen is "ok"... cameras are "ok" , Battery life is "ok"..

Honestly if this thing costed $450-$550CAD as is id of probably of been happy with my purchase, but in no way is this thing worth $1000 to me.. I will just wait till a better version comes out or buy one used in a few months when people sell them for a good price.

i really really really wanted to like it and convince myself to keep it but i cant justify the price for the final product received.
Yeah I agree. I like my mini 5 better than the new 6. Something about just the look ‘n feel. I bought a Wi-Fi only 64 gb but wish I hadn’t.

I don't perceive it with normal use and even recorded in slow motion. I just don't see it.

You have it. It is most pronounced when you scroll up and down repeatedly. And not so fast, just say you’re reading MR forums and scroll down to next post. Now I can see it on the Air 4 also, but in landscape mode. It doesn’t bother me because the distance between the sides is so large. But on mini in portrait it is annoying. Why the hell did they chose such refresh alignment between those two models is beyond me.
