The biggest issue with this new Mini is the “jelly scroll” problem which has ruined the experience of using it for me. I’m having to return it which sucks because I love the form factor.

See the thread on Macrumors about it. Also now being covered by 9to5Mac.

I feel this way. I’m going to wait for 2 weeks, and if they don’t fix the issue by then my mini will have to go back 🥲. I never planned to own a bigger ipad otherwise I would’ve picked up a refurbished ipad pro already. I bought this mini specifically for the form factor and updated look and specs.

I guess it’s back to reading on my phone 😭.

The design has been updated with a new design and screen ratio, making the display-area about 5% larger.

Depending on how you use the device you might consider it an up- or downgrade. Watching movies on the new mini is more likely to provide a better experience while some apps/use-cases will provide lesser content than on the
I agree my 7plus destroys this screen, but so does the
Mini 5. It's brighter and icons are larger no ot fuzzy. Think I'll reinvest the $900 in a surface pro 8
Check out the Galaxy Book Pro 360. The OLED screen is fantastic.

Yesterday, I canceled my pickup order on the Mini 6 from Apple. Today I bought the iPad Pro 11 inch M1 128GB brand new in box for $669.99 at Best Buy. Before I bought the iPad Pro today, I was considering the iPad Air base model that's $599.99, but for an extra $70 the iPad Pro 11 inch is worth it. The iPad Pro will be my primarily tablet. Maybe down the road if Apple makes the iPad Mini Pro, I'll get it.

I’m a little confused by all these people returning a Mini for a much larger iPad, and somehow casting aspersions on the Mini for that. I mean, it’s a very different product.

As someone in the market for a Mini, I’m more interested in how this Mini stacks up to the previous gen, not how it stacks up to a totally different product.

Blame your economy, not the product
Wow such ignorance.

the USA economy is only 4x that of Canada yet we rank 9th in the wor:

In 2018 Canada ranked 10th globally,

While both countries are in the list of top ten economies in the world in 2018, the US is the largest economy in the world, with US$20.4 trillion, with Canada ranking tenth at US$1.8 trillion. The population of Canada in July 2018 was 37,058,856[4]while the population of the United States was 328,928,146 in November 2018.
The USA is 10x the population of Canada in 2018.

Let’s look further, in 2020, GDP/capita is:
Canada $43,242 million,
USA $43,242 million,
Source:

This means, that even in a pandemic Canadians are MORE productive than our friends south of the border! This outside of the pandemic has been consistent for a long time with 1/10th the total population, less industries by far, and we do it all nice like.

our economy has nothing to do with exorbitant pricing (even with taxes, or recent new North American trade deal).

please either be clear and dig further before flinging such generic insults against a nation.

Welcome to the club. I'm making the most of all the clearance sales on Mini 5 accessories.

Don’t take this the wrong way, and it is your right, but I haven’t seen many positive posts from you about Apple. So, I’m kind of not surprised you dislike the new Mini.

I could be wrong, and it’s perfectly fine, just an observation.

…because you can’t fully discern Blu-ray quality on a 7.9” screen. It is a very common practice to over-encode videos… I used to be on a crusade to educate people about it, but I stopped tilting at that windmill 15 years ago. :D
Well, I guess that depends on how far away you hold the iPad. I’m near-sighted so I hold it close enough that it fills my FOV as much as a large TV would.

For those who said they either returned their mini or cancelled their mini for an Air or Pro model, they are really 2 very different products for different purposes. I love my Air 4, I use it for general browsing, writing with the magic keyboard and pencil, and basically as a 2nd laptop. The mini is not for getting work done. It’s mainly used for reading in bed or catching up on the news when i wake up. It also is my travel iPad as I don’t usually want to lug the Air around. I feel the people who expect the mini to be an everything computer are the ones who are going to be disappointed.

Ok, fired up an old mini running iPadOS 14. I think its a combination of the older aspect ratio plus the change in 15 v 14 that is throwing me off. More so the Home Screen change with 15.

A few comparisons (not the best since each has a different number of icons on the home screen and dock):

The other thing is iPadOS 15 switches to 4 icons across in portrait when you start adding widgets.

Just my opinion, but holding them both in the hand, the iPadOS 14 feel of icons more uniformly filling the Home Screen feels more natural or iPad like. Good thing is its software and I'm sure over time they'll update and tweak it.
Honestly I get why the new Home Screen looks the way it does but apple took the lazy way out. By keeping the one widget =1 icon. Instead of equaling 4 like on the iPhone. Which meant they would have had to just tighten up the default spacing. Maybe they thought having a load of icons filling up the screen was not aesthetically pleasing and went for this instead. Choices had to be made, unfortunately most of us disagree with them.

What blows my mind is that they offered an option to go to the terribly ugly and unintuitive new safari design….but they won’t allow us an option for more icons on the Home Screen or an iOS 14 sidebar -type option……

Agreed. It feels like it was the simplest way to get widgets done. Really sucks after having a couple years of the 6x5 grid that was consistent in both landscape and portrait.

Encoding the videos isn’t the problem, some view videos at high resolution on various platforms to suit their viewing need or convenience. Just cause the mini is convenient for someone at the time doesn’t mean it’s their only viewing window to enjoy ;)

So, i purchased a 256Gb Space Grey Wifi iPad Mini 6, well the device is beautiful, form factor/size is perfect, im just completely underwhelmed for paying pretty much $1000CAD for this thing.. Screen is "ok"... cameras are "ok" , Battery life is "ok"..

Honestly if this thing costed $450-$550CAD as is id of probably of been happy with my purchase, but in no way is this thing worth $1000 to me.. I will just wait till a better version comes out or buy one used in a few months when people sell them for a good price.

i really really really wanted to like it and convince myself to keep it but i cant justify the price for the final product received.
Sheeeeee I’m just surprised no less no more…

I think I would struggle with Touch ID being in the power button. It’s a very specific place and I would imagine it would be awkward getting your finger on the power button in the exact position to get it to read. Also the surface area is a lot smaller compared to the older Touch ID sensor on the older minis. The Touch ID on my mini 5 is pretty simple. It’s either at the top or the bottom and it’s big enough for my eyes to see at all times. I would forever be wondering where the power button was on the mini 6 depending on how I was holding it. However perhaps it’s a case of training my brain.I would definitely preferred Face ID.
Here's my experience with Touch ID on the power button of my iPad Air 4. My forefinger is set up for ID. If the iPad is asleep and I click the power button with my finger centered, it will wake and unlock the iPad at once. If my finger is far off center (or I use a different finger), it will wake the iPad but not unlock it. Instead, a while line and the words Touch ID appear on the screen right below the power button. Touching the power button with my forefinger will then unlock it - but beware, clicking the button will put it back to sleep instead.

Sometimes when you put your finger on the power button (I suppose based on where on your finger you are touching it), it pauses for a fraction of a second and shows the message Rest to Open next to the button. Before you have time to react to this, the iPad is unlocked. I do not consider this a problem - it's a very short pause.

I do still have a problem remembering where the power button is. In that case, I just touch the screen (with any finger). That wakes the iPad up and puts the white line next to the power button, so I can rest my finger on it.

I previously had an older iPad with the Touch ID sensor. Overall, that was easier, as you note, but I'm glad to have the smaller bezel in return for the new system.

I haven't read all his posts, but he doesn't seem an Apple hater to me, and I think that someone can be critical of Apple and still be objective about their products, maybe even more objective.... If anything I tend to be suspicious of those that show unconditional love for Apple....
