The X isn't perfect. But I could never go back to the 8/8 Plus form factor. And I'm not big on using Android as my daily driver, so the X is still the best overall phone (for me anyway).

Same thing but with a notch n weird ass screen size

This is the same thread years ago when the plus model was introduced and when touch id was introduced.

People complained about how large the plus was, how it was not usable and blah blah. Now the plus models are outselling the regular models 2 to 1. I dont think Ive even seen a 7 regular model in the wild other than on display at a Verizon or Apple store.

When touch id was first introduced people where thinking the FBI would buy your fingerprint from Apple. Why people didnt think their fingerprints were probably already in a database "somewhere" is beyond me. I know with several jobs - I had to go get fingerprinted. I heard horror stories about why touch id couldn't be trusted.

What this thread shows is people are reluctant to change until it becomes mainstream or accepted. The X is here and it is the future MANY (not all) of the naysayers will own a X, or Xplus in the next 24 months if not sooner....they just need time to embrace the change or embrace the NOTCH.

That being said I owned my X for 23 days and I dont think I can go back to touch id again.

While not perfect the iPhone X is as close to the perfect phone Ive owned.

However for the price of the X if you dont love it - it should go right back to the store.

Exactly. I had to have a Plus for screen size but always hated the fat “Phablet” feel in my hand. Even Apple sorta made fun of it by having the “Reachability” feature.. which always made me laugh.. but it was necessary for me with one hand use. Want the 16:9 aspect ratio back somehow with X2 - but that might not be possible without making it wider again..

Can’t argue with your points. I think you’re going to be stuck with the notch in a lot of future products though.
[doublepost=1511468148][/doublepost]

For me it was worth it. However, I am in the camp where the plus phones are too big for everyday use.

Yes there are few option for the Apple lover or we stuck for few years with the + or have to get used to the notch, or Apple will change it hopefully

Reachability is just as important and necessary on the X for one handed use. Strong example = bringing down control centre. Or scroll to top of safari page press.

The phablet feel is an advantage in my use as I use my plus like a mini tablet. The X isn't quite big enough and feels more like a phone. I could see myself dual using it with an iPad where currently I exclusively use my plus and the iPad has been sold.

the resolution has nothing to do with your youtube experience..

the resolution at 1125 px just means you get a crispier image because you have more pixels packed in the same space.

what you probably dont like is the aspect ratio. and thats fine, you are resistant to change. some people complained when their 3.5" screen in the iphone 4 became obsolete because they bought apple's "makes sense screen because you can reach it with your thumb from edge to edge".

LCDs are indeed brighter because they beam a constant light throughout the screen. however, this prevents deep contrasts and a truer black; as well as being less battery efficient.

take your time.. one step at a time. you'll get there eventually.

I've spent the last half hour reading all the replies on this thread. This was a very interesting thread to read indeed. I'm coming from a 7+ which I have absolutely loved. It's an outstanding phone and by no means is showing its age. Sure there are sleeker phones out there. The Samsung phones and their infinite edge is pretty darn cool. And the camera on the Pixel 2 is something to behold. But it's not all about the hardware. iOS, the apple ecosystem, the quality build of their products all play a part in why I think their products are far superior to any other option out there.

I've been using the X for 2 days now. I love it, but I'm not 100% sold. I enjoy the larger screen of the 6+ and 7+, but I do remember wondering if I made the right choice when the 6+ came out. That phone was HUGE compared to the 5 and I wondered if I would want to carry around a phone that large. But I came to love the size and was more than happy to got with the 7+ when it came out. So I'm not not quite sure I'm ready to downsize to a smaller phone, but I'm definitely going it give it more time before I make the final decision. The phone's hardware is amazing. I absolutely love FaceID, it's worked 99% of the time for me, far better than TouchID did. Unlocking the phone just feels natural. The gesture controls are so well designed. I'm still not sold on the screen quality though. True Tone is a joke and unusable (so I turned it off of course). And the color shift when viewing at angles is a bit annoying but not a deal breaker. I'm getting used to a smaller keyboard which is actually a bit trickier to type on, but that will come with practice. The smaller form factor definitely makes the phone easier to carry around.

My biggest debate is: is this phone worth $1200? My 7+ works just fine. I only owe $400 on it and it's paid in full, and I've been totally happy with it. But I love new tech, and the X is a beautiful phone with its full screen and all the other features I mentioned above. 12 days left to make my decision. At least it's a decision between 2 great pieces of hardware. There are worse problems in the world :p
This is me, exactly.
[doublepost=1514843074][/doublepost]What did you decide?

Somehow I suspect you will be saying something similar next year.

Doubtful. Next Sept we will see a significantly improved X and X+. They will look identical to the current X, but have substantial changes to Face ID among other items. Apple is a .2 company. Annual Upgrade users will be best off. Unless one is wealthy enough to drop another $1,200 in 12m.

There will also be a slight price drop on the base X, or and increase in base RAM for the same price. My money is a $50 reduction in price. :apple:

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution on the iPhone X is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications with my 7 plus. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.

EDIT 11/6/17: Yes, true tone was turned off on the X, and both brightness was turned to the max on both the Plus and X, the plus is brighter and cooler, the X was less bright and more warm/yellowish.

For people who doesn't believe I actually purchased one, here's my return receipt.

[doublepost=1515454363][/doublepost]You mentioned having to pick up your phone to use Face ID. Once the program has learned your face you don’t have to have the phone very close for it to detect it. As long as you are looking at the device it’ll pick up. Mine will as long as the phone is within approximately 12-18.” As long as I’m looking at it. I’ve had my phone for about 3 weeks now.

Doubtful on the price drop..
Because there's more room in the larger phones (and there will be an Xs Plus this year), the Plus phones will always get a little more of the better technology.. mostly in the camera.. Though it bugs me no end - that Apple does that.. Just give the larger phone a bigger battery for that larger display - since it needs it. But I hate that my 'hand size' has to dictate whether I get the best technology or not. I had 6SPlus and 7Plus both for the larger screens and better camera.. but HATED the Phablet size.. The 6S and 7 fit my hand so much better. I LOVE the X's size!!!!!! As large a screen as 7Plus but smaller hand size fit.. YAY.. FINALLY!.. This time the BEST technology was ALL in the smaller size.. I just hope Apple doesn't go back to their trick of 'better techonology' in the XsPlus than in the Xs - that would really pi$$ me off.

What’s also sad is they made it like it was the Face ID that drove the ani emoji when that’s not the case. Lol.

Reading this thread confirmed I made the right choice by not getting the X. Coming from an aging 6s+ i swore the X was going to be my next phone. I watched all the reviews and played with it multiple times in store but just when I was about to order it I changed my mind. I couldnt justify the cost. I loved the OLED screen and small form factor but really that's about it. I'm not totally sold on FaceID even though I heard it works well but im just not ready to give up touch ID yet. Its so fast and convenient. I know i would never use Amimojis and I watch alot of media on my phone so I think the notch would annoy me after a while. So I ended up getting a mint 128 gb 7 plus off Swappa for $500 and saved some money. The 7 will hold me until September then I see what Apple brings again.

I keep going back and forth as to do I want the X.

I know would be enamored with the device, but I can't justify taking on the added expense when my iPhone 7 is practically brand new.

At this point I'm just going to wait for a year or two and see what happens. Hopefully others will stop upgrading so frequently.

I'm reviving this thread for anyone still in doubt about purchasing the X over the 8 Plus. After reading a few pages about people not knowing what the X can do over the 8 plus, let me enlighten you.

The X can do animoji - yes, it is not a feature that is worth the £200 extra, but it's a feature that does qork rather well and is gimmicky.
The X has a much better camera for low light portraits - the f2.4 and OIS help massively for low light portrait shots.
The X has OIS in the telephoto lens - this not only helps portrait shots in low light, but it can be used in video mode to give stabilized zoomed clips.
The X has FaceID - i was skeptical at first whether this would be as good as TouchID. It is accurate and works well. There are pros and cons to both options but i do like FaceID now I've got it, but both options on the X would of been nicer.
The X is lighter and easier to use in one hand.
The X will have a higher resale value, so that £200 extra? Yeah you will more than likely get that back over an 8 Plus.
The X has a better screen in my eyes, this is subjective though.
The X may have a different aspect ratio, meaning videos either have bars each side or if zoomed they don't look right. But, alot of content creators are now filming in the new 18:9 ratio, meaning that zoomed in video will look normal on these longer phones, and will look odd on 16:9 phones.
The X has a more futuristic and eye pleasing design - once you get over that notch.

I'd say the X is worth it over the 8 Plus - just my 2 cents.

All fair points, however if content creators start filming in 18:9 more regularly then the notch is going to become more of an issue as you will genuinely be missing a chunk out of the content. Ref the price none of the flagship devices from any of the companies are worth the price, we see these prices because the majority of people purchase the devices on contract so all of the prices have been bumped up.

They could easily go rid of it, if they would apply the swipe down gestures to the whole screen and not just the upper part.
Swiping down, left or right, in the middle of the screen should do the gestures as well.
Such features should be added since the plus models in my opinion.

Android is doing it right. In a not so distant future I can see me switch back to Android because of such small and annoying things they are apparently not able to fix.

Said that I will get my X today BUT for the first time I was on the edge to switch over.

I held a Plus today. I used one for 3 years. I could never go back at this point. It simply feels way too big and heavy in my hands.

Despite its many flaws, I really like my X. I just think it's absolutely not worth the price.

Ditto. Love the 10. Best phone ever.

I love my iPhone x

Stupid post is stupid. Stop confusing dissatisfied customer with hate. He went from an iphone to an another iohone and he's hoping to get the bigger iphone this year. He's wall to wall iphone. And yet somehow you managed to correlate that with hate.

Oh, and get a new saying.

The Plus has to be one of my favorite phones just for the sake of a larger display and touch ID has matured nicely. But in the sense of carrying the iPhone Plus models, it’s not comfortable for me. The significant difference with the iPhone X does make a difference in a slimmer, more narrow form factor for holding and portability.

Is the iPhone X overpriced? Depends on how the individual values the iPhone X and what it delivers for an experience. In your case, you have particular issues you don’t like about it, therefore your perception is that it’s not worth the full price tag. Does the iPhone X have its flaws? I think all tech is flawed in someway or another, because it’s not perfect. Face ID has its tendencies, but it has its advantages, but short comings as well.

If the iPhone X were a perfect phone in my eyes I still would not feel it was worth the price at retail.

At this point I don't feel any smartphone is worth more than $500 - $600 at most. That's the price I'm willing to pay moving forward to purchase an iPhone at full retail and use it for 3 years.

Essential? Prototype beta at best. Value $299? Tries to be mid range
Galaxy S9? Yes, $699 good value.
But until Samsung software and updates and Google improve and get this Project Treble out, tested, and how fragmented Android is, I’ll pay iOS “tax”
Plus iOS Face ID is excellent, no FPS on the back, or Bixby.
Maybe $300 extra is a lot, but 8 traded my Note 8 for iPhone X and paid $300 for the privilege.
