Out of curiosity. How can you say you don’t like it if you haven’t tried it yet?

I played with it locally. Not that I don't like it per say, I just feel comfotable with the touch ID. I am sure eventually it'll disappear and I'll have to adapt. I also see talks of the apps not fitting the screen. On top of that it's a grand for the cheapest phone vs. 8 plus shares the same specs for $300 less!

That is more understandable. The build quality, screen, and cameras are not worth the extra cost for some. The apps thing isn’t that big of a deal. Very few apps that I use are not optimized and if they aren’t it just means it is slightly smaller, no big deal for a temporary situation.

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution on the iPhone X is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications with my 7 plus. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.

EDIT 11/6/17: Yes, true tone was turned off on the X, and both brightness was turned to the max on both the Plus and X, the plus is brighter and cooler, the X was less bright and more warm/yellowish.

For people who doesn't believe I actually purchased one, here's my return receipt.

and here is an example of video cropping on the X compared to the plus (not my picture)

Your X display might have been defected. I have opened to check more than 15 X's display, all of them were much cooler blue tone than warm yellowish 7 Plus (or 8 Plus) display. With True Tone off, there is no way that non-defected Samsung OLED can be warmer than IPS LCD display.

I also do not like the fact that I cannot unlock the phone without picking it up but this is how Apple will move forward to all future iPhones, you might as well start getting used to it now or stay on your current 7 Plus forever.

Screen is interesting in some way I agree, but you get used to it quickly and when there are so many better things to appreciate, including it's smaller size that fits perfectly in one hand along with great new design and much brighter camera lens, why bother criticizing it's new changes that you don't like to get used to.

As for the screen ratio, I also prefer the 7/8 Plus but it's really cool to watch 2.35:1 ratio film on X's display, not to mention it's ability to display pure black on OLED for HDR content that LCD display can never do.

Having hard time getting used to totally new system should not be called 'step backward' in my opinion. People can like the new change or not, up to their own choice but when Apple decides to make changes for all the future iPhone, it's probably wiser to get used to it, unless it's okay to live with an old phone forever like I mentioned above.

I don't think touch ID will come back, even if it does, it will not be for few years at least because if Apple does that anytime soon, Face ID which is not working 100% perfect yet, will be turned away by customers.

Very true the x wouldn't be worth it. I am sure I would be happy with the 8 plus. At least for a year.

I wonder if next year if the home button and touch ID would be gone or maybe implemented on the rear of the device....

the biggest reason for me is
1- the price
2- the size is too small compare to my +
3- the notch.you want to make it symmetric on the bottom too

Can’t argue with your points. I think you’re going to be stuck with the notch in a lot of future products though.

For me it was worth it. However, I am in the camp where the plus phones are too big for everyday use.

Yep.. that notch ain’t goin nowhere. Technical limitation. Unless they want to go the Galaxy route and add back a mini bezel even line at top. But that notch is here to stay.. as stupid as it looks.

Yep - loved my Plus screen size - HATED how wide the fit in my hand was. This is the perfect combo for me. Same large screen as the Plus (for apps that are updated to take advantage of it - so few so far) but smaller hand size. Perfection!

I went back and forth from a X to an 8 plus and then ultimately went with the X. I think the 8 plus is fantastic, but coming from the iPhone 6 Plus, it wasn’t enough of a change for me. Having said that, I think the 8 plus is the pinnacle of the design started with the 6 plus so I see the appeal. I find I only want to upgrade when there is a compelling new design. It’s the geek in me. I first had a 3GS->4->5->6 Plus. Each one was a distinctly different design. Normally I would have upgraded to a 7 plus last year, but it just didn’t capture my interest. The beauty is that Apple has left so many options on the table that everyone can find what they want. I even doubt that Face ID will replace Touch ID across the board next year. I think the iPhone SE is a good example of Apple recognizing a market for a classic design.

Buying cell phones is a lot like a car. Face it it's a status symbol. "I have the the iPhone platinum and you have that junky LG thingy" or " how could you possibly like that model over this one. You must be stupid" you can almost hear those those types of thoughts. In the end people for the most part get what they want and what they like. Everyone's tastes are different and what I like isn't what Bob next door likes. The only real disappointed people who waste their money on a product only to return it or get stuck hating it are the ones who didn't take the time to research the product, try it out, talk to owners of the product and most likely bought it just to be first or to keep up with the Jones. Remember the days of flip phones and no real internet? Well those days aren't that far behind us. How far we have come.

Though I’m still not planning to return this phone anytime soon… A couple of other minor nuisances I’ve noticed with the X is with face ID and Apple Pay. The angle you place your phone at to trigger the sensor in the store to pick up that it’s an Apple Pay purchase is a very flat angle that doesn’t immediately see your face when you double-click the side button to say Pay… You have to lift the phone up after that to have it see your face and authenticate the purchase. So it’s just a little unwieldy using Apple Pay with FaceID.

The X is severely over rated. Bought one and gave it back. Those needing to justify their purchase will always find great things to say about it.
I cannot see the differences in screen quality compared to the 7 plus/8 plus...You are also losing screen real estate...

A fool and their money are easily parted ;)
Only thing easily parted here is a disguised shot at those who've decided to purchase the X.

Likewise, those needing to justify not purchasing the X will repeat themselves in many negative X threads, backslapping any comment bashing the phone & praising other models.

Weird. I went from the 6+ to the 8+ and appreciate the speed and camera improvements. The X wasn't compelling enough for me. Face ID, the notch, and animojis wasn't worth the extra $400+

The price difference between the 8+ and the X is only $200...

I could tell it would be an issue for me before it came out and am still happy with the 8 Plus. The new learning curve for gestures and lack of a button was enough to turn me off to it. Glad for those who dig it and I don't want to take away from it though, maybe in another a year I'll be ready for the switch.

I thought the switch with the gestures would be a nightmare but it hasn’t actually taken me that long to get used to it.

I was glad to lose the size of my 6S+, also in the end I wasn’t going to buy the same design yet again

Why is it so Important for many people here, to announce that they are returning an item and why? Is the OP and others like him seeking permission or approval? You don't need our permission nor our approval. Really narcissistic.
At least have one thread for it....too many covering the same disgruntled rants....

I think theres a huge difference in the quality between screens...

I think the 8 plus has a way better screen! And yes, I have owned the X.

I’ve had the 8+ and X side by side for extensive comparisons and I can not agree that the 8Plus is superior. No way. They’re both excellent. No clear winner to me. You’re getting equivalent screen products - just choose which form factor you like best.

I liked the X form factor a lot. More than the Plus. But I just couldn't stand the extreme color shifting display I got. After viewing others, I returned mine and wait until next year to see if things are different

You must’ve had one of the “broken” X’s another whole thread is discussing. My X is perfectly stable on the screen. No color shifting. Just like other OLED’s I’ve checked out from Samsung, etc. Many are taking back to Apple and getting new ones. I was lucky - my X is exquisite.
