Wow why are so many people so critical towards others that just don't like the size jump backwards?

It's insane how so many right away flame and say your hating, you don't know what you're saying, etc?

Hating is a very different thing, and seriously this is not an Android, Apple debate. Some people just don't feel the price nor the things that need to be given up from a plus to the X are worth the trade off.

I like the X, it's a real nice phone and honestly it does what I need, the screen is very nice and more like my S8 was, the camera is great, the volume on the speakers is fantastic, even calls are nice and loud and clear, the actual experience using the phone is very positive. Even getting used to the gestures has been fairly easy.

However, let me just say I do miss the size of my 7 plus, and some of the things it brought to the table, namely the battery life. But I'm going to give my X a chance, I'm going to let the battery calibrate, and I'm going to see how the next week goes, I do honestly think this is the best phone Apple has ever made, it's not their fault I have really big hands, it's just their fault that I really loved the plus model the last few years, everything except those huge bezels. If they can make a phone thats bigger than the X with all the plus features and give it small bezels I'd be in..yea I guess that would be the S or plus models next year hopefully.

So with that said I'm going to give it some time and if i just can't get around some size issues I'll just exchange it for the 8plus which sorry I have to say I truly do like. Especially the blacked out one with no shiny bands around it and that glass back I can use for wireless charging, sure the bezels are still there, but the insides match the X without the full blown camera experience and offer a bigger battery.

So people if someone voices their opinion, maybe just hear them out and see that it's just their preference and not really based on hating at all!

TouchID is limited. There's a ton more to Face ID than you might realize. It's not just for the seamless unlock process, but also for everything else it entails -- apps that require passcodes, websites. Apple Pay. All of it, way smoother and better. My banking app now takes faceID -- way better than dealing with the passcode entry before. Websites that require username and passwords, it pulls from your system and adds it in automagically after faceID authenticates you. FaceID has way more implementation than just unlocking phone -- people don't realize that.
I am sure you are right. But like I said, I still don’t think it is worth all the extra money. But every one to their own.

This is the thing I dislike about ‘modern’ discussions: Disagree does NOT equal hate.

You have summed it up perfectly.

The X has been brilliant for me so far. I’ve never considered a plus iPhone because it’s too massive for my dainty man hands. The X gives me a big screen in a smaller form factor.

Still haven’t read a thing you wrote that Touch ID can’t do compared to Face ID!

Thanks for letting us know OP. Didn't you do your homework and use common sense before purchasing? The resolution and aspect ratio has been known for quite some time. Also, quite why people want their screens to be so bright and so blue is beyond me. I've got my TVs and monitors (and iPad to as best it can be given the settings) calibrated to ISF or as close to. Yes, side-by-side one looks far bright and more vivid than the other, but that doesn't make it any better or any more readable. Stop comparing and you soon adjust to the more natural, warmer screens. After that, bright blue screens look awful, truly awful.

Anyway, good luck sending back your virtual phone that you didn't really purchase in the first place.

I love my iPhone x

Why do people take it so personally if someone doesn't like a product as if it is somehow a personal dig at those who like it? I don't understand this mentality. The only people being "haters" are those who post things like this like petty kindergarteners because someone happens to dislike an object that they like. So juvenile.

Could not care less about animojis. The screen is beautiful and I love not having bezels, however the switching/closing UI is atrocious. Face ID is in no way a positive feature - it was always a question of whether or not it would be able to approach touch ID in speed and convenience. I would say it does about 60-70% of the time. The other 30-40% of the time it misfires, is slow, or isn't usable at all (phone flat on the desk, in the car, etc).

Gonna prolly give it a week but at this point I'd say it's 50/50 that it'll go back in favor of an 8 or 8+.

I wanted not to like Animoji’s, I thought they were a pointless waste of time. But since getting the phone me and the wife have been having fun with them. I had her literally in tears of laughter with one I sent. Oh well, maybe the novelty will wear off.

As far as video is concerned, mine defaulted to letterbox. That is smaller than the plus size phones but it’s the “proper” aspect ratio.

I dug out my stand Qi charger from wayyyyyy back when I have a Lumia 920 (its kind of amazing and sad that it took Apple this long to get on board but I appreciate they used a known standard) for the desk. It works great. I can just tap the screen anywhere when the phone is asleep to wake it and it can see my face for faceid. Extra bonus that it’s effortless charging.

That said, everything you mentioned has been discussed as nauseum here before the phone officially even launched. If you’re happier with your plus, all the more power to you. My only personal complain is the price of the phone. I really like it but I feel like I paid more for it than it was worth.

I honestly don’t understand starting a forum post with “I don’t care what anybody says”.

While I can respect not caring, why share then?

Because some claim the iPhone X 5.8 inch is bigger than the Plus when it isn’t. If anything, hopefully this thread will help educated and inform people on the fence that’s on the plus size and thinking about going to the X.

not necessarily TouchID vs FaceID.. rather, the sensors used for both..

a couple of examples:

on the X, it suppresses audio alerts if you're looking at it.. (like- the phone won't ring loud if it knows you're using the phone)

the phone won't sleep while you're reading since it knows you're looking at it.

--------
i believe these types of context aware scenarios will become even more beneficial as time goes on.. (for example, text may scroll automatically when it sees you nearing the bottom of the screen)..

with touchID sensor, it's a one trick pony that does exactly one thing.. reads a fingerprint.. the trueDepth sensor system has an incredible amount of usages down the road.

Why wouldn't you wait a few days? You're already paying a restocking fee. I had the 6+, 6S+ and 7+. I went to the 8. At first, the phone felt super tiny. Within a few days, my roommates Plus seemed so huge. So huge I couldn't believe I ever had a phone that big. It seemed 2x as big as the Pluses I had. Your hands adjust to the size, and what one seemed huge doesn't seem so big, and what once seemed tiny doesn't seem so small.

I had the same feeling as you when I got the 6+. I got it launch day (Friday) and thought the size was just ridiculous and I was instantly planning on taking it back the following Monday and getting the 6. By Monday I was in love with the plus. I had already adjusted to it.

There’s no restocking fee.

Wanted to try it out for a day and giving it a chance, did it, didn’t like it, that’s it. I’ve already posted my receipt earlier, but you can keep assuming I really didn’t purchase it.

I wish I kept the measurements about surface area. If you include the notch “ears” it’scaxtually slightly bigger than a plus. If you don’t it’s slgihtly smaller.

The problem lies within aspect ratios and how we measure screens diagonally. This worked when we had square screens for decades. Now it’s just a worthless unit of measure.

I'm already looking at my phone when using a website or App, don't need to position my finger on a button. So FaceID is much more seamless than Touch ID in the app or website scenario (where you sort of need to pause, position your finger, than go). With Face ID it happens almost without you noticing (but for the little icon that pops up) -- then BOOM, you are logged in. Trust me, it is way better than Touch ID.

1. Coming from an iPhone 7 Plus screen to the iPhone X screen is a downgrade, don't care what anyone says, everything is bigger on on my 7 Plus and 1080 resolution just fits everything nicely on the screen. The 1125 resolution is just weird, especially watching youtube videos because everything out there is 1080p. Not to mention my 7 Plus is brighter and more cool compared to the X oled screen and I perfer the cooler color. I'll wait for the iPhone X Plus if Apple ever decides to release it.

2. My phone is always on my desk and with touch ID, I can easily unlock the phone without picking it up and take a quick glance at notifications. I can't do that with the iPhone X, now I have to pick up the unit for face ID and swipe up, not convenient at all.

For paying $1200 w/ tax, I just wanted something that is better than my 7 Plus and I feel as though it's a step backwards for me due to the reasons above. If it works for you, that's great, I hope you continue enjoying your device, but this is definitely not for me. I really hope they release an iPhone X Plus with touch ID embedded into the screen.

Glad someone said it before I did. My flashlight or camera don’t work when scrolling from the top left side. I’ll be returning most likely

Make sure you didn't turn off attention aware or whatever the setting is called under FAce ID.

I had that off because Face ID is failing far too often for me... was hoping that might help. I’ve redone the Face ID setup a couple of times as well. I’m just not getting on with it. When it does work it’s amazing, but it’s about 50/50 to whether it will actually work.
