I’m the target market for the mini. I just can’t use a normal sized iPad anymore.

You surely should tell me to mind my own beeswax if you are so minded, but could you possibly tell us as why you can't use larger iPads any longer?

I have a two year old 10.5 that I've been using, but have been really intrigued by the Mini 5 since it was announced. The person at the Apple Store encouraged me to take it home for the 14 days and try it out. Said there was zero issue with returning it. Glad you were able to do the same.

A little different story when I got mine at Best Buy. I had to sign an acknowledgement of a $45 dollar restocking fee if I returned it for any reason other than damage. Fortunately I love it and it has no flaws so it's a keeper.

Admittedly, I’ve been hard on the Mini 5. Not because I don’t think it’s a great device, but because Apple stayed with the older design and first gen Pencil.

I can’t help but wonder the % of people that are happy with the mini 5 AFTER owning the one of the new pro iPads verses the people coming from older model iPads.

If you own a new gen pro and second gen Pencil, are you happy going back to the older design? Are you happy having to repurchase a first gen Pencil? Are you happy going back to the home button?

I love Apple hardware, so even though I’ve been hard on the new mini, I wanted to know if it’s size would supplement my current gen 12.9.

I “borrowed” my daughters mini 3 for a could days. Used it for reading, web browsing and YouTube. The mini size has a lot to love about it. It worked great for reading eBooks. I didn’t like the text size in Safari. I prefer YouTube and videos on a larger screen. All personal preference.

The mini size definitely works great for many things. I didn’t like having to go between two generations of pencils. I didn’t like going back to the home button that iPhones have long since left. After using the current pro design, I found myself not liking the bezels on the mini. It felt like I would be spending money on an older device. All personal preference.

However, for me, it came down to cost verses need. I travel and do not like to search for WiFi, so I always buy cellular model iPads. 256/cellular/Apple care/repurchasing first gen Pencil/local tax was $930. For me, as of right now, I can’t justify spending that much for the limited way I would use the mini and the feeling of going back to older features.

I was fortunate enough to have a mini 3 to test drive the size with. My 9 year old daughter is happy the test run is over and she has her mini back.

Is the mini 5 great? Absolutely.
Did Apple throw a great chip in an old design? Absolutely.
Will I pay full price mini 5? Absolutely not.
Will I wait and buy a used mini 5 someday? Most likely, the kids will need their mini’s replaced at some point.

The mini is a good size for book reading. Unfortunately the screen is terrible for that compared to a Kindle.

Why would anyone shop there? I got mine from Target and since I have a Red Card, they gave me a 4 month return window.

This policy is new. I won't buy Apple products there in the future and usually only buy at the Apple store, but they didn't have the model I wanted when I stopped there earlier. Best Buy did and I had it in my hand ready to hand over my credit card when asked to sign about the $45 restocking fee. At that point I would have signed anything. :D

I have the 11 iPad Pro and am very happy with the Mini 5. No problem with the bezels and home button and don't feel like I'm using an older design. The new mini is super fast, has a beautiful screen and I love the size for reading, mail, etc. The only downside for me is the small text size on many websites making it hard to use for long periods, but fortunately the text on sites like news can be enlarged. The mini is much nicer to carry outside the home or to use on the sofa.

That is your opinion, but it certainly isn't mine.
I didnt mean bad. I meant as far as your eyes' health is concerned, reading on an iPad is terrible regardless of screen size. That's why the Kindle is such a huge success.

I know of individuals who have bragged about buying an iPad from Best Buy only to return it so they can go back a few days later trying to rebuy it as an open box discount.

Many, many years ago EBGames before they became Gamestop had a no questions asked policy that you can return any opened game for a refund. One day I happened to be in the store buying a game and a guy standing next to me was bragging about how he never buys a game because he plays and beats them in a week and returns them for a refund only to rebuy another game to do the same thing.

tl;dr People tend to abuse a stores generous return policy until they catch on.

Yeah I think the mini has many great uses. I’m glad Apple didn’t kill off the size. I am disappointed that Apple used the old design especially after having so many years to change it. I wasn’t expecting a pro mini but the same design was disappointing to me. I still use a old iPhone X. It’s a few years old now and doesn’t have a home button or large bezels. With the pro iPads and normal iPhones not having home buttons and bezels it seems clear that Apple is leading us toward that design model with their flagship products. To offer a mini with only internal changes, however great, is either an indicator of expected sales % of overall iPads or laziness on Apples part. Of course that just my opinion. Which isn’t really worth that much.

Agree. My original Kindle and Paperwhite sit unused and I always read with my 10.5" iPP.

In theory, the Kindle devices are great ideas - small, long battery life, waterproof. But they can't read a lot of book types, especially some with pictures, like history books. Also, "imaged" books are no-gos. And for me, I store my entire library on my iOS devices - 25GB - and the Kindles have limited storage, unless you get a Fire. And if you are getting a Fire, you might as well get an iOS device and get a superior tablet. Though granted, the Fires are dirt cheap. But you get what you pay for.

I LOVED the Mini when it was first introduced. When the Plus models of the iPhone came out, that’s when I moved back to the full sized iPads.

I was also tempted to get the Mini, especially now that it supports the Pencil, but the iPhone XS Max and 11” Pro have fulfilled my needs so well, I may be skipping a couple generations of each for the first time since the iPhone came to Verizon.

I have very small hands (I wear Children’s gloves) and weak wrists so I can’t hold anything large or heavy. Plus I use my mini a lot in bed and I hold it sideways so one side is against the mattress. A larger iPad, hubby’s is a Pro 9.7, is just too big for me, and far too heavy. I use my Mini a lot during the day, it goes where I go, so small and lightweight is best for me. The mini is just the perfect size.

I got my 5 on Sunday. I still have my 4 as a back up device.

If you decide to get it you will love the Mini 5!

I got mine yesterday

A year isn’t that long for a smartphone.

Again your correct. But no one said anything about a year. I said a few years. Few is more than one. Few is also more than a couple, which is two. I don’t see where you’re getting A (single) year from. That wasn’t written nor implied.
