So I sold my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 to get the new 12.9 M1 and was exited but to be honest here is why im returning it, the power is not noticeable the 2018 acts the exact same and I know wwdc is coming and we might see pro apps but right now my view is the M1 isn't needed and is over kill and for screen which I was excited about just isn't a wow factor, it is nice and blacks are darker but apart from HDR video it looks the same and the screen feels deeper than the glass which makes it look odd. its not night and day as apple like to say. And the last reason is I just like knowing I have an iPad but honestly its just a big iPhone I get some people use it like a computer but I always had an iPad just for the sake of it and I dont use it much, I love apple but I just dont see the iPad as worth it for me, maybe after wwdc with ipados15 ill change my mind and buy it again, but its more of a I want product than I need one

I decided to wait out upgrading my 2018 IPP to see what is in store at WWDC. I *want* to upgrade but there isn’t any new use case that it allows me to do that my current iPad doesn’t. I hope Apple justifies the 8/16GB ram and M1 with pro apps, ability to run Mac apps, Mac/iPad app parity, full multitasking, floating windows, etc. There needs to be *something* in iPadOS 15 that takes advantage of the new hardware to get me to update.
iPad is turning into a strange category with a $2400 iPad really having the same capabilities as a $329 iPad.

It's definitely too expensive to keep if it's not something you'll use much or particularly like - returning it is a good move for you.
yeah its cool to have but I use my 16" MacBook Pro for everything work related so its more of a luxury than Necessity

This.

I’m slowly starting to think that iPadOS 15 won’t be that big though. I mean, there might be a couple of ‘pro’ Apple apps at best, but that isn’t going to convince me to purchase another $2k+ iPad, it needs so much more than that. More than can ever come from one OS update alone, especially if past updates are anything to go by.

With rumours of M1X and new Mac products appearing as well, it’s starting to feel less and less likely that this wwdc will finally be the one that unleashes the iPad - they wouldn’t want things overshadowing each other IMO. Especially given how much people believe that as soon as the iPad becomes more useful the MacBook dies.

Why did you buy it in the first place? Hard to believe anyway.

Been asking those who sold their 2018 iPP... how much, well.. could you fill me in?

As other have stated... you could wait for WWDC by initiating a return on the last day, which would give you more time to determine if iPadOS 15 features will be enough for you.

But tbh, I'm not sure what you was expecting. Not sure if you read the reviews or watched YT videos, even Dave2D mention in his review... there wasn't a need to upgrade specifically for the XDR. I ordered from BB and by their blunder.. I was delivered my iPP yesterday. And according to their website I have until the 8th to return it. But I'm confident Apple has something major planned on the 7th for iPadOS 15, but if I'm disappointed. Then I'll return it.

Smart decision would be to wait until after WWDC before ordering.

If iPadOS15 is another minor update, then you could keep your current iPad or hunt down a deal on a 2020 or gently used 2018.

I don’t see the point of adding such powerful hardware to a device that runs software designed to run on cell phones.

If the device isn’t for you, it isn’t for you. The 2018 iPad Pro was and still is an amazing product, you should be proud you bought such an incredible device: that even after 3 years is still performing adequately to your needs. That said, I think with the direction Apple is headed: you might regret the decision to return the M1. I could list all the reason why, but you know all those; the bigger reason is… because the 2018 model you bought has taken such good care of you to this point. Why question that the new one wouldn’t give you another 3 years.

Devices in general are starting to hit a wall. You can only make a new device so much better than the old, when the old is still at the pinnacle it is going to be harder and harder to justify an upgrade. Your right, until the 2021 iPad Pro was released, the 2018 iPad Pro was pretty much still the fastest tablet available even after 3 years!!!

For a lot of people the 2021 iPad Pro is overkill, for someone like me who pushed their 2018 iPad Pro to the limits; it is a nice upgrade. Now that my iPad can display HDR, I can create and view everything in 10bit HDR. So much better, smaller file sizes, and no more grey bars while watching videos.

I think you were foolish to sell 2018 for 2021. The difference is not very big right now so I think you could have kept it. Even if Pad OS will be huge, it will take a while for developers to adapt so staying on 2018 for another year or 2 would be much wiser.
Anyway, the damage is done. See how you feel after WWDC but I think it wasn't the right call to sell the 2018 (unless you got very very VERY good deal for it :) )

Nice! What model did you have? I wish I sold mine earlier, but I'm in this crossroads... sell it or wait for WWDC. But I know Apple has deliver for iPadOS 15... the newest iPPs depend on it.

Smart decision would be to wait until after WWDC before ordering.
Oh, you are one thousand percent correct! But as soon as iPadOS 15 is announced on the 7th... with features for the newest iPPs, I wanna experience it asap. And as of now, they are difficult to come by. Well, for me at least... because BB was my source of buying it due to the gift cards I have with them. The 1TB 5G 12.9 model is either sold out or to be shipped in July.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them foolish.. its their choice, their wallet. We could give them suggestions, but if I could sell mine for 700... I'll do so now.
