So, why exactly were you so "exited" to have a new iPad when you yourself state that you like owning one just to own one, and that's it's just a glorified, bigger iPhone?
Don’t mind the malign words of the iPad just being a bigger iPhone. They bought into the Apple hype… anyone can fall prey to it, I’ve done it before.. it happens!

Nice! What model did you have? I wish I sold mine earlier, but I'm in this crossroads... sell it or wait for WWDC. But I know Apple has deliver for iPadOS 15... the newest iPPs depend on it.

Oh, you are one thousand percent correct! But as soon as iPadOS 15 is announced on the 7th... with features for the newest iPPs, I wanna experience it asap. And as of now, they are difficult to come by. Well, for me at least... because BB was my source of buying it due to the gift cards I have with them. The 1TB 5G 12.9 model is either sold out or to be shipped in July.

Sold my 2018 12.9 iPP 1 TB (WiFi + Cell) for $750 w/ magic keyboard case.

I really feel the iPad is in a strange place now, selling my 2018 12.9 for 700 I was only adding 400 to get the new one, so I’ll wait and see what wwdc brings and make a final decision but I don’t think ipados15 is gonna be that amazing so will see :)

That's a very big gamble TBH. Apple never promised anything. You have to assume that the product is its final form when its released.

Oh, I totally understand that. You are right, Apple never promised anything. I’m just looking at the fact that current iPadOS doesn’t fully take advantage of the M1 on the iPad Pros. Reviewers have pointed that out and up to this point… those who have the M1 iPP in their hands, have reflected that as well.

And it’s kind of odd. When the new iPhone gets released in the fall… it’s pretty much in it’s final form, Apple might have an update to open a certain setting. But for the most part it’s in it’s final form. However, the low hanging fruit is iPadOS for M1 iPP… there’s gotta be more to it.

The pros are great, it’s just that the current feature set doesn’t justify the price tag IMO. They could add M10 and it would still be the same iPad. The better screen is fine but iPads already had the best screen of basically any computer out there.

Also I’ve been testing the MKB on my iPad air 4 I picked up just to get a feel for the newer design and once I try to start using the iPad like a laptop I begin to run into so many small annoyances that I question why I’m not just using a laptop. The iPad was made to be held and touched IMO. Any of the extra stuff is just fluff that can work in certain situations but is never really ideal.

So I sold my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 to get the new 12.9 M1 and was exited but to be honest here is why im returning it, the power is not noticeable the 2018 acts the exact same and I know wwdc is coming and we might see pro apps but right now my view is the M1 isn't needed and is over kill and for screen which I was excited about just isn't a wow factor, it is nice and blacks are darker but apart from HDR video it looks the same and the screen feels deeper than the glass which makes it look odd. its not night and day as apple like to say. And the last reason is I just like knowing I have an iPad but honestly its just a big iPhone I get some people use it like a computer but I always had an iPad just for the sake of it and I dont use it much, I love apple but I just dont see the iPad as worth it for me, maybe after wwdc with ipados15 ill change my mind and buy it again, but its more of a I want product than I need one

Your period button also appears to be defective. You should definitely return it.

I too ended up ordering a 2021 1tb with cellular even though my 2018 is still doing what it needs to do. I use it for much of my daily stock trading activities rather than the more complicated app on my MBP. Apple offered what I thought was a pretty good trade-in for the 2018 at least compared to recent eBay sales so I figured now was a good time to upgrade. I do expect some good stuff from WWDC and if not, then I may decide to cancel or return. I really don't expect Apple to release this much power in an iPad without substantial plans to make use of it asap. It it was just the M1 chip or even a newer A-series that would have been different, but with the 16gb ram option, something must be coming.

Not really the ipados needs to be a big improvement, but the apps..if the dev apps are coming like xcode , final jt pro logic pro etc then yes..without hard core apps that can take adv of that m1 and 8/16gb ram, the ipad remains behind even if they bring new features like profiles or proper files management etc
Or now with support for controllers, they can bring more aaa games for those who likes to play on the go or whatever

Nice…wish I could’ve made the jump to 1TB more comfortably but I’m still feeling the sting after trading up to a Silver 512GB Cellular (from Space Grey 256GB Cellular) yesterday. This White Magic Keyboard is looking pretty sick, though.

Sorry if it’s an annoying or nosy question, and not to derail the conversation, but which app(s) do you primarily use or recommend for stock trading? I’d like to get started if it’s possible or accessible.

What features/"pro apps" are people looking for from WWDC that would affect their decision for this particular upgrade? I'm curious as frankly I can't think of a thing that would matter to me (not criticizing others here).

If none of the pro apps mean anything to you then it doesn't really matter, but I for one and begging for Apple to release Logic on the iPadOS. That would be a game changer for me.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be responsible for 50% of the upcoming refurbished market at this point, but I've finally settled!

First I started with a 128GB base model space gray (11-inch) wifi only. I even made the argument here on MR that wifi-only is the way to go because hotspots are simple enough, but as luck had it my power went down for five hours the day I got my iPad and using the hotspot was annoying and cumbersome af. It was SUPER slow (100 kb/s), it took forever just to load Google, my phone started heating up and dropping battery life and I forgot to refill my battery bank so my phone was dying with no easy way to charge it, and it kept disconnecting so I was constantly going back into settings to reconnect to the hotspot. I had a wifi+cellular 10.5 before and it was far less annoying, so I returned it for a 256GB wifi+cellular in space gray.

I bought a Magic Keyboard in black but then I saw all the sexy pictures of the white one, so I returned that and got white.

I put my fresh new space gray IPP into the white keyboard and... ehhh... I didn't like the look at all (yes I'm being very superficial at this point, but hey, I'm spending loads of money and this is all going on the refurbished market anyway!) To me the space gray IPP with the white keyboard is the Birkenstock sandals with white socks of the iPad/case combinations. I couldn't deal.

So finally I said screw it, I do a lot of music production and such and 512GB would be nice to have and that gave me a good enough excuse to go ahead and get the silver, so I just got back from swapping my 256GB space gray wifi+cellular with a 512GB silver with wifi+cellular and I'm officially done now. Everything is peachy. Also, by the way, I had to travel a state over just to do this, hah. I have problems.

I started with just the cheapest base model possible and two days later I have the 512GB w/wifi+cellular and a $300 keyboard. I have to be done at this point... except that 12.9, while too big, is kinda tempting... NO! NO! I'm done. I swear I'm done!

Hah, nice! You and I are currently overlapping then. And if it makes you feel any better, I actually moved down from a 12.9” 2021 model I purchased on release day. Aside from the aspect ratio and size being more cumbersome the XDR display didn’t only not entirely “wow” me but that combined with the blooming, blurring, and ghosting artifacts as well as with the significantly higher entry price point, and I simply couldn’t justify keeping it even if I had wanted to for whatever reason (e.g. better contrast/brightness, more screen real estate).

Yeah, as I’ve said countless times that buyers have to wait until WWDC to get a solid idea of if they should move the 2021 model to the buy category or not unless they are new or upgrading from an extremely old model and had already determined that the iPP is the right fit. You shouldn’t be putting faith in what you haven’t yet seen.

That being said, Apple does release hardware ahead of the software to utilize it. This isn’t unheard of.

We’re 2 weeks from WWDC. We’ll see what it does (or doesn’t) have soon enough.

Great question.

When it comes down to “pro apps” most are concern with how apps from Microsoft or Adobe doesn’t provide software features equivalent to that of Windows/macOS. And tbh, what will thrill me the most.. is virtualization support. Having Parallels or VMWare able to come to iPadOS. That would be the ”pro app” I’m looking forward to the most.

And in regards to features, revamped multitasking… Apple has given us more RAM, they have to provide a better way to show multiple apps on the screen... it’s bland right now. I honestly, don’t want Apple to remove the simple-nature of the iPad. But something must be done in the multitasking area.

You see this iPad as being a big iPhone, but I see the iPhone as being a tiny limited iPad.
I can relate to this. For example, I consider the Apple Watch as a wrist-computer that happens to tell the time. Others think of it as a watch that happens to do “computery” things

I kinda-sorta moved down from a 12.9. I had both the 10.5 and 12.9 2017 iPad Pros, I justified having the 12.9 because I used it for gigging and the size sure was nice for reading sheet music on a stage (10.5 was do-able but only just, 12.9 was great for this) - that being said this was literally the only thing I used the 12.9 for because I could never get used to it for day-to-day use. I used my 10.5 99% of the time, the only other time I would very occasionally use the 12.9 was when my 10.5 was dead and I would use the 12.9 while waiting for it to charge up!

The new 12.9s sure do look nice when watching HDR content, but to my eyes they are largely the same as the 11s for regular everyday use. They might have a bit more contrast, but I don't do a lot of HDR consumption and movie watching on my iPad and portability is certainly my highest priority so I'm set with the 11. I didn't detect a whole lot of blooming and such when I was checking them out, but I'd probably figure out a way to drive myself nuts if I owned one. I did notice the shadow looking line that runs around the screen edge though, I'm not sure if that would bug me or not.

I'm hoping the 11 will be good for the stage when we go back to normal life because I sold both iPads to get this, hah. I suppose if I had to then I would buy the absolute cheapest base model used 2017 12.9 because they've got to be pretty cheap at this point, but I think the 11 will suffice.

Part of me wants the XDR to come to the 11 next year with improvements over the current gen 12.9's XDR display, but I don't know if I can go through all of this again! If I wasn't insane then this new iPad should last me at least five years.
