I wonder if anyone would be thinking a major overhaul is coming to iPadOS at WWDC if Apple would have just called the chip A14X… because that’s basically what M1 is… it’s amazing how marketing can really push a product onto consumers in the hopes of major improvements in software.

I have a feeling after WWDC Apple will see a lot of cancelled orders and returns.
I hear you for sure, but I’ll throw one back at you.

Apple is extremely meticulous and in many areas stingy. They not only decided to use the M1 — branding and all. They increased the RAM capacity by up to 266% over the previous generation. Apple is not known for shipping excess RAM anywhere in their lineup. On top of all of this. They decided to disclose RAM capacities up front for only the 2021 model... Not any previous generation or any other non-macOS device Strongly suggesting RAM is important for this generation, but still a "non-issue" for previous generations. With current iPadOS limitations that distinction hasn’t been realized.

That’s an odd reality if Apple has nothing unique planned. Especially considering their historical norms as I said earlier.

Where I do agree though with doubters such as you… We have zero idea what Apple is planning and it can fall far short of what many think they should do. But I think they will be doing something.

I went to Best Buy last week to check out the new iPad. It’s smooth, but I felt the display is not all that huge of an upgrade compared to the last gen iPads. Right now my 10.5 is fine. But hoping to see a better iPadOS coming up. I might wait another year or two to see a better refresher.

My 2018 IPP only has 4GB RAM - that could easily cause performance issues in Final Cut Pro with 4K video. Apple could limit Pro apps to those iPads that have 8GB or more RAM. They don't sell a Mac with less than 8GB RAM today it would be consistent. I believe there will be some capabilities that Apple will limit to 8GB or higher iPads - why do I think this? Because prior to the 2021 iPad Apple would never disclose the amount of RAM in an iPad model - now they freely give this information - there has to be a reason for that switch.
I have no problems editing 4K video on my 2015 iPad Pro.
The M1 iPad Pro will be faster of course and probably let you have more video-/audiotracks and whatnot in your timeline, but the chance Final Cut Pro (and other Pro Apps) only coming for the 2021 iPad is close to zero.

I cant the 2 week return window will be over
If you ordered online via Apple (even if you picked up order at retail store) you can actually. Just submit your return request to Apple on day 13/14 from your purchase and then they give you 14 days from that point to get it to UPS/Fedex. So you can essentially get a 28 day return period if you do it right. Old trick of the trade for evaluating products. Especially useful this year with this iPad & WWDC.

Judging by the apps in your dock and Home Screen I’m going to assume the majority of your work revolves around emails and they like? Nice setup either way, surprised you’re not running an external monitor.
I just sold a 2015 27” iMac , cashed in while still some value in it, $1500AUD so half back what i paid. this iPad is faster/smoother.
I use pages a lot and files app, iCloud drive, photos and yes emails for my business, the rest is pleasure use. I travel a bit for work so this will be better all around.
I may look at another iMac later maybe not.

I’d return my whole family before returning this M1 beast, awesome contrast, awesome deep blacks, awesome pure whites, awesome brightness, awesome 8gb ram, awesome speakers, awesome build quality, awesomeness of a iPad. ?

So I sold my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 to get the new 12.9 M1 and was exited but to be honest here is why im returning it, the power is not noticeable the 2018 acts the exact same and I know wwdc is coming and we might see pro apps but right now my view is the M1 isn't needed and is over kill and for screen which I was excited about just isn't a wow factor, it is nice and blacks are darker but apart from HDR video it looks the same and the screen feels deeper than the glass which makes it look odd. its not night and day as apple like to say. And the last reason is I just like knowing I have an iPad but honestly its just a big iPhone I get some people use it like a computer but I always had an iPad just for the sake of it and I dont use it much, I love apple but I just dont see the iPad as worth it for me, maybe after wwdc with ipados15 ill change my mind and buy it again, but its more of a I want product than I need one

agree, 16gb ram & 2tb ssd, something is definitely happening at wwdc ?
I think we all agree, however, it depends when the apps ready for the M1 chip will come out. If they come out right away, wonderful but I doubt it. It will take a little time and by that time the 2022 models are getting closer and closer to release possibly.

those who got that 16GB will be like why did I waste my money when I could have just got a 128GB or 256GB for like 1k less.
There will be a lot of angry people that's for sure, Still convinced pro apps are coming at WWDC, can't see any other reason why apple would add 16gb ram and 2tb ssd models to their iPad line up if they weren't going to let customers take advantage of all that extra power.

Ok at present on my UK Apple account it states I have till the 8th June to create a return, now if I decide to return, can I activate the return on the 8th or does it stop on the 8th meaning I should really return on the 7th just to be sure?
Anyone help? :)

I doubt wwdc will bring any major changes because they still have a full line up of older iPads they can’t have 2 OS’s one for the old ones and one exclusively for m1 iPads so I doubt they would make a whole iPadOS just for the new ones, so it’s gonna be the same old updates nothing wow, unfortunately major apple fans even the youtubers are getting tired at apple updates, they have gone down hill in my eyes for years now nothing is wow anymore, most people that try to justify the new iPad don’t really agree with what they say, it will never be a computer.

I think the most that’s going to happen is a normal iPadOS update, same old software, then a segment of WWDC dedicated to a few Pro apps available to M1 iPad Pro users only coming late 2021/early 2022.

The issue with the current line up is that it’s only the new M1 iPads (most of which have not been delivered yet due to supply) that have the more ram and M1 chip, it’s whether developers feel the need at this early stage to take advantage of all the power…

I doubt the iPad Pro M series line will start to see anything major for another year or two as of yet, next year will likely see the Pro get M2 and the Air and mini get M1, leaving just the basic iPad on an A series chip, it’s from this point they will start to see major improvements.

Outside of creative workflows, you are basically a perfect use case for the iPad mate

Maybe iPadOS 15 killer feature is not about beeing more like macOS, but been able to run macOS apps (like you can do it in the other way around). They can actually do it and this would bring iPad to a whole new level, macOS capable but with touch interface.

I just don’t understand why someone would choose an iPad over a Mac, now the MacBook Air has m1 it’s made the iPad in a weird place, not gonna lie I like knowing I have one but that’s because I love tech but it honestly is just a big iPhone and with the keyboard and trackpad I just don’t get why someone wouldn’t use a Mac when its miles better

Better display, more portable, iPadOS apps at your fingertips, touch screen and more, all will be revealed at WWDC my friend ? then you'll be placing your order again for that M1 mini led beast of a iPad and the rest will be history. ?

They'll have the same OS for both the Pro and non-Pro, but the Pro will have enhanced features. Won't be the first time this has happened, just look at the multi-tasking enhancements that were limited by machine RAM.
