By the way, does the fan go nuts like the previous iMac if you swap out the HDD?

According to the testing done by R.OG, the answer is no, the fan speed is not controlled by a sensor on the HD, so swapout of the HD will have no affect on fan speeds.

*rubs hands together* Cool. I'm seriously considering doing this now. Thanks everyone.
So the i7 found in the top end 27 incher is a 3770? That's an LGA1155 part. So, after the warranty expires what's the chances of slamming a Xeon in there? As long as the TDP is the same, I'd be in business, right?

mSata/Sata to custom Apple connector

Is there any adapter for connecting mSata or sata to the Apple custom connector? I think Apple's connector is a slightly modified mSata one...

Hi, guys, finally i completed my configuration for my

Apple iMac 27" Late 2012, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 CL9 LowVoltage, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB, Apple SoftRAID 0 (Samsung SSD 840 PRO + APPLE SSD SM256E), Dual Boot (Windows 7)

And imo benchmarks are damn great with this config, its perhaps the fastest iMac you can build by today.

More pics comming...

Is there a reason you went for cl9 ram ? I assume in the Kingston hyperX ?

Have I got this right ? As I have currently have the 1tb fusion drive I could remove the 1tb drive and repace with a Samsung 830 128gb SSD. Then raid 0 the new SSD and apple SSD into one one256gb drive ? Which will be a lot quicker ?

That should work.

Or for more fun if you want Windows too ... put a Samsung 830 256GB SSD in there, partition it into 2 128GB drives, RAID-0 one of them with the blade SSD, and use the remaining 128GB (non-RAID) partition for BootCamp.

I am thinking of doing a video teardown of a 27 inch iMac when it finally arrives! I am at the back of the queue again now as I had to make some changes to my order. Are we still going to be having a sticky thread or sticky guide for various procedures on the iMac's. We have already got alot of good content on here that is starting to get hidden in the past.

Thumbs up for ssd install guides.

thanks for confirming it will work, but i have no interest in running windows on my mac thanks

I plan to get the pinout from this board. It's a simple design but i probably won't get a chance to work on it till mid january.

So... There is hope after all !!! This is feasible. All we need is the pinout from the Apple custom slot to a mSata. R.OG is there any progress on this ?

Don't take happyhacking's word for it, he really knows how to spend money on a machine ;-) If you are on a limited budget like me just go for second hand pulled genuine ram or get good priced well branded ram which is compatible with the iMac. The most important statistic is that it is 1600mhz.

In the end, I plumped for the higher end i5 iMac 21 inch. Just because the shop across the street from me had some in stock. Right now I'm booting it off a Corsair Neutron SSD in a USB3 caddy.

I'm planning to install the SSD, 16GB Kingston HyperX RAM and upgrade the CPU at a later date but so far running well.

I learned a lot from this thread. I was all set on installing a 512gb blade in my fusion option. In the end, I decided to upgrade to the 768gb option now that Apple lowered the price.

When you open it, will you note if there is a blade SSD connector inside? Early teardowns showed it was missing.
