If you love Apple Maps you can use YouRace with GPX import.
No turn by turn
No offline mode (waiting for watchOS11) but it looks like what Apple was supposed to do

You can set „Use with other Fitness app“ on the main screen of Footpath.

(Roughly translated)
Yeah might have been the one. Do you use the workout app at the same time? Did it today and not easy to swap after they ditched the double tab crown to see pace etc.

Is Footpath okay to use as workout tracker as well on non-interval runs?

Also on a side note, if you open Strava on your iPhone browser and not the app, you can download all the routes and import to Footpath and will grab name and everything. Now that is one heck of a combo!

Yes, I record with the Apple app and route with the Footpath app (with the setting as described). No issues.

QQ for those of you adventurous enough to use the Beta - does it finally allow at least some management of the Race Routes?

I would really welcome the option to delete most of them, and keep those that make sense (or create new ones based on a previous runs), that would be super useful for actual races...

Yes, managing routes would be really helpful. My list of routes is an entire mess.
And it also seems it stopped working for me again. No idea what triggers an update to the stats of a route. Sometimes it works, most of the times not.

There is no management of the "Race Routes" in the newest betas. I think Apple has forgotten about them.

Seconded. I use Footpath, which technically works like the Apple implementation is supposed to, with more features. Nothing is better that working inside the native workout app, but Apple isn't giving us that option yet, so Footpath is the best option we have. Just remember to click on "Use with other workout app" when using the Native AW Workout app too.

Workoutdoors is great too. To each their own.

And there’s another app, simpler than WOD, cheaper than Footpath, with Apple Maps integrated …😉

I have written to their mail with a small suggestion - let me know if any of you have different suggestions.

I have been running a couple of trips now with Footpath and it's pretty damn great actually - still have to figure out how much additional battery it uses (if much at all?)

But when running and raising my arm to see the map, the orientation can be "North up" or "Compass". North up is tough to see what direction to go sometimes, so I have been using Compass.

While it works - it is very lively because of arm movement while running and not so smooth.

I have suggested them to make a third option to just show "direction of travel" up - like a car GPS so it will always just be up for forward.

May sound stupid from me, but what is the difference to "compass"?

Was a long time for me when last running with Footpath but can not remember that I had a problem with the map direction. Facing north is pretty useless for running a predefined route, I agree.

I’m running that as well. Where did you find the file?

All I did was searching for GPX file for CPH Half. Many race organizers have them, especially trail runs.
You run in Sparta if I recall? Sometimes I’m easy to find there, I’m sometimes wear 2 watches ⌚️⌚️🤩😉

Just think when I lift my arm I’m usually at decent speed so it’s moving quite a bit as the sensitivity feels pretty high with the compass.

Not a deal breaker to be honest just would make the view way more steady

@xDKP, I understood you are on watchOS 11 Beta, right?

As I was annoyed about these stupid rewards last weekend („Congrats for running 10km“ when I was actually running 19km), did Apple work on this in watchOS 11?

I would rather have no reward than such insulting ones.

Ha ha I’m totally with you. Just ran 35K this Saturday and got a “You just ran a half marathon - that calls for celebration”

So: not changed. Would also like to deactivate the pop up of the silver badges

LOL, that is really bad. Would be interesting, if there are medals for running further than a marathon. E.g. you run a 160km ultramarathon and get a congratulation for running 42.2km. :p

Who cares about these badges ?
It only works with Apple built in app.
For me it's only for beginners ore people who run twice a year ...

It's just an achievement on "standard" race distances: 5K, 10K, half and marathon
It's not designed for "serious" runners
It's the same kind of notification you have when you get "you have well started the day" after running a marathon

I do and I am running 7 days a week since 40 years. Would not consider myself as a beginner and still do get these badges.

The badge system should be intelligent enough to figure out whom to give these badges and whom not. That's my point.

Clearly some folks care. Why rail on people for what they care about? I run ~1800 miles a year and it annoys me too.

That being said, I think they are spending a minimal amount of resources with that feature and it could be so much more robust. I just don't think they care to change it.

They could have badges for more distances, and then give you badges for THIS YEAR, so that you can continue to have motivation as you age, since chances are, you aren't as fast.

Or they could say, "You completed your 10th half marathon this year!" "That is 1 more than last year.." or something using AI or the data that they have compiled.

Maybe that is coming with the future AI updates? Doubt it.

No need for AI to count workouts.
We all know Apple makes apps for casual users. It's always simple and with the minimum features.
There are other apps and external services for people who need more.
