Thanks @xDKP and @NME42 , much appreciated.

I've done some digging and found several reddit threads about exactly the same battery drain problem. Some people were suggesting a hard reset, I've done that before but that made no difference. And interestingly, someone mentioned that it could be related to the Weather app complication syncing issues (that have been a proper pain in 26.0.2), suggesting that the constant unsuccessful sync attempts are causing the drain.

So I've done a proper cleanup. I've removed weather complications from all my watch faces, deleted multiple animated faces that I don't really use, then did another hard reset to kill any potentially remaining processes, and - knock on wood - it seems much better now! I don't wanna speak too soon - charged to 100% around lunchtime and now (~7pm) it's at 91%, that feels about right. Haven't had a chance to try a run today (sniffles... 🤧🙄) but with a bit of luck it's gonna be ok. Gosh, this watch was able to take me through ~50k in one charge, now it wanted to die after 15, that's not cool at all! - Anyway, rant over, I'll just leave this here in case anyone else stumbles upon the same problem.

Edit to add: even without recording a run (looks like sniffles will stay with me for a while), I can tell that the difference is huge. After ~24 hrs of rather light use (i.e. all day/night wear, regular notifications, one 30 mins indoors workout / stretching session), the battery was still at around 25%, which is pretty much what I was used to prior to the messed up update. Fingers crossed that the next one fixes the weather app problem, I kinda miss the complications 🫠

Edit 2: indeed, without the Weather app complications, the battery is doing fine. 1 hr outdoor run + 20 mins non-gps workout only took 17%. Now I just need 26.1 to get it properly fixed 😃

Just checked after iOS 26.1/watchOS 26.1 releases if it is now possible to delete Race Routes in the Fitness app. Well, Apple removed the edit button on Race Routes.

What a brilliant creative approach to issue solving... 🤦‍♀️ who the heck is doing these decisions? A competitor who had infiltrated Apple to sabotage them? Eh.

No idea. This feature would be really great if Apple would put a little love in it.
Had updates on some Race Routes in September but then it stopped again.

Another thing I have noticed - If I start my run at home - run to the track (and start track mode) - leave the track to run home and press finish - It will finish at the distance finished. If I start and do the warm up and cool down on the track though, I can get some distance removed in the end - like finish on 10,00 km and press end and it will correct itself to 9,95 (which pisses me off :) )

Any of you noticed that? Also leaving the track to run home - the "You have left the track" can sometimes take long and it misses again distance there - there should be a "leave track" option, just as there is a "Select lane" option.

No. Have not done a track workout with watchOS 26 yet. Also my track workouts in the past always have been with a warmup starting at home.
9 out of 10 of mine are with start/finish at home as well, but with my daughter yesterday she biked next to me and only ran in the track mode and it changed her 5,07 km to 4,98 when she pressed end workout.

so which corresponds to the actual distance? maybe worth a test such as - 5 laps in the 1st lane...

That’s a good question - when you run 20 x 400m as I did Tuesday with 20 second walk, I completely miss out on distance and where I started etc. and the watch is the only thing keeping count 🤣

that's why I suggest only a 2k, five laps are still somewhat manageable 😂 (last time I did a 10k on track I lost count pretty quickly, definitely earlier than halfway through the 25 laps... if it wasn't for the distance on the watch I'd be absolutely lost! 🫠)

Went for the track this Friday and had a 3K warmup, followed by 10K progressive and 2K cool down - For once everything in track mode and on the track. And on this rare occation I ran with music (so the splits was spoken to me in the AirPods) and because it wasn't with a lot of different splits, I had it on "Open Run" so it reads kilometer splits up.

And now to the weird part!

Initially I didn't see it as I was just warming up for the first 3K, but as my 10K split was supposed to have faster pace for every split, I was pretty focussed on the watch. And every time crossing 1K (no sound) I would up the pace - and quite a bit AFTER that the normal "Km 4 - current pace 4 minutes per km".

It was consistently "behind" and it was super weird. After my 2K cool down was finished and it said 15.00 km on the display, I continued to jog for around 115 meters or 150 or something before it said "Km. 15 - current pace 4.30 per km." and I paused it and ended the run - and BOOM the 150 meters dissappeared and my run is now 15,00 km

Something is fishy with the track mode. And sometimes when leaving the track to run home, it's also longer to say "You have left the track" which results in crappy pace for that section and lost mileage.

@xDKP ok this is super odd... I haven't been on our local track for ages, but this makes me curious, I might need to go and try. I'll also mark laps to see which portion possibly got wrong.

Anyway, on something completely different: has anyone figured out how to get rid of the Check In button from this screen? I've already disabled the check-in reminder in the workout app settings, and I've disabled it from the smart stack suggestions. But the button is still sitting there and it's supper annoying - I don't want to accidentally press it while running, and at the same time I want to easily reach the End and Pause buttons (which tend to scroll away during a run - pretty much to the same view as on the screenshot), without having to scroll up. Google hasn't found anything useful...

Just checked and I have the same button layout - haven't really thought about it as a problem, as I always pause the run with buttons before ending it on-screen

The possibility of accidentally initiating the check-in is irritating me too, also when marking segments. There really needs to be a way to get rid of this... 🫤

You can just double tab on the display to mark segments? Was an option back in the day so should still be? I use the action button, but the other one before that

Double tap is an option, but not always reliable with sweaty hands. No action button on non-Ultra.
Honestly I see no point forcing the check-in button on a screen that's used mid-activity - especially when for whatever reason, AW keeps offering my ex as the contact (removed from emergency contacts / favourites over two years ago). That's nuts.
