After reading that the rx 580 wasn't affected by the sleep bug i went and ordered the rx 580 saphire nitro +. Hope it will work fine. Does anyone have that card ? Let me know it still works well.

The NITRO+ will still be affected. Only the PULSE Sapphire rx 580 - 8GB card is not affected as this is the one in the apple eGPU dev kit.

I guess i’ll have to find out. Since i bought the nitro + 8gb i can probably flash the pulse rom on it or at the very least change the id to a pulse.

Bear in mind that this card has tricky power requirements and essentially occupies 3 slots.
Stick to the PULSE model.

The Nitro+ come with dual ROM, you can flash one of them to make it perform and ident like the PULSE does. In this case, it should not be affected.

has anyone tried to flash the rom ? Why does the card occupy 3 slots ?

Yes, you can search the post. At least one member here did it and success. You can ask hin for more info.

The card is a 2.2 slot card. It looks identical as the PULSE on the picture, but actually bigger in all dimension. The extra thickness make it effective block 3 slots. But it may not make much difference. Because even using the PULSE, most likely you will keep the slot above it clear. Otherwise, the fan may be blocked. So, it’s more like “you prefer to keep 1 slot clearance”. Or “you are forced to keep 0.8 slot clearance”.

The new 'unrecognized' but nevertheless well working Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB is still available at NewEgg: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202278&cm_re=RX_580-_-14-202-278-_-Product

Newegg actually lists two 8G RX 580 Pulses. There's the one you listed above and this one:

I've been curious about the difference. The one you listed above was only $229 on black friday. It was sold out first thing in the morning. Bummed I missed out.

@thomasthegps tho a 2.2 slot card in the bottom pci slot will only block the second slot so not as bad tho ventilation may be better in the second slot ?

When I get my card I’ll give an update detailing how well it works for me. From what i read on the internet the only thing i have to do in order to fix sleep is to edit the serial number in the vbios, which seems like a piece of cake. I also need a dual mini 6 pin to 8 pin cable, which seems hardto find in the EU

Anyone have any thoughts on my issue:

I just installed the Sapphire Pulse RX580 8GB (Just received it from newegg and it looks like others are seeing that on the systems information page, it shows as AMD R9 xxx 8 GB) on my cMP 5,1 with Dell U2817Q and no matter what output I use (DP and HDMI) I can only get default resolution 3842x2160 to look crisp. When I choose scaled, it shows a bunch of resolutions but with a (low resolution) label behind the others. I am also using display port cable as well as high speed HDMI, if that matters.

Is it the drivers or am I doing something odd? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Try to hold down the "Option" key before you click "Scale"

thanks! Although the guy didn't flash the pulse rom he just changed the id of the card in the vbios.

There are 3 steps to change the "BIOS Part number" (not Device ID) of the card

1) Dump the ROM image
2) Hex edit it
3) Flash it back to the card

So, it's the "Flash" action to make the card function like the PULSE. (Even though not directly flash the PULSE ROM onto the Nitro+)

If I am the card holder, I definitely prefer to "create" my own "PULSE version" ROM (Hex edit the original Nitro+ rom image). It's the best way to avoid error.

Am I right in saying that flashing like this creates an unsigned ROM and consequently the Windows driver in BootCamp won't work?
So, if you use BootCamp you shouldn't do this or is there a way around it?

Not sure, I didn't own a Polaris card, can't test it. But I don't think it has this kind of security protection.

AFAIK, both Vega and Pascal card's ROM are signed. If modded, the card won't run it.

For older card, as long as the ROM is corrected modded, and the check sum is fixed. The card should load it, and as long as the ROM work, the driver will load. But I only tested it up to R9 380. I don't know if it still true on RX580.

However, since another member reported that he can mod the RX580 ROM and make it properly identify in MacOS. So, I assume the RX580 can run with a modded ROM. And there are also plenty of modded ROM for RX580 if you go to some mining forum. Obviously these cards and Windows can run with a modded ROM without any problem.

I just bought and installed a Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Pulse 8GB (11265-05-20G) in my cMP 4,1. I hoped it would allow me to get 5K native resolution on my HP Z27q but no luck. I tried both Sierra (10.12.6), and subsequently upgraded to High Sierra (10.13.2). I get the same issues that I get with my nvidia GTX 1080 (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/cmp-sierra-gtx-1080-hp-z27q-no-5k.2055100/), that is, 2 screens are detected with odd resolutions instead of a single screen at 5K.

The card I bought is probably part of the new batch since it is not recognised as the RX 580 but appears as "AMD R9 xxx 8 GB" in "About this Mac". Do you think that flashing a ROM with a corrected part number might help ? Have you heard of 5K screens working with RX580 on a cMP ?

Or maybe I should return the card to the shop while I still can...

RX 580 does 4K max. That's according to AMD.....[edit- but that's over HDMI, not DP....7680x4320 max]
