Apple has almost all the review sites under its control.Hence I sometimes refer certain Android websites for iPhone reviews

Even the iphone in that game is used to blow up another person's phone in a mission.GTA has missions which could all be called parodies yet they did subtle changes in all phone models.
Okay so not sending an invitation to a press event is an equivalent situation to Samsung attempting to use the dcma to force takedowns of parody videos?

Anandtech.com is where I go to for android reviews.

One is manipulation to make the product seem favourable than it actually is. The other is trademark issues with an intention to malign the brand.Your call

BTW this is not a parody game. Its a game with gang wars and robbing banks and such and not just comic scenes.Including the Note 7 in it is nothing short of defamation of the Samsung brand

Anandtech.com is where I go to for android reviews.

I agree. When it comes to Android reviews Anandtech is better because of their heavy bias towards Apple thanks to their boss

Anandtech is the last place which i read about apple devices if i want to read anything honest to help me make a decision to buy or not to buy.

it is just a waste of time.

Lately Anandtech is becoming a lot like iVerge. Anything coming out of Cupertino is a automatic gold award

As Samsung will lose this. There are laws in the United States that allow limited use of trademarked items. Parodies being one of them.

Yep. Satire and parodies have been protected by the 1st. SNL has made fun of every celebrity on the planet, even the Pope. How many libel suits have succeeded against SNL? Probably hundreds of libel suits have been initiated or threatened against SNL, but I'm sure most of them were laughed off the courts.

Samsung might possibly win and get Note 7 parodies banned outside of the USA, especially in Iran, North Korea, and Thailand (where defamation against the dead King means they get to arrest you and brutally rape you in jail etc).

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Samsung has already lost because they can't shut down or sue the internet. Sure let's drag Apple in here also; why not choose another company if you are trying to put forth a cogent argument?

Because this is an Apple fan site? Did my use of Apple as an example offending you?

And Samsung has every right to force YouTube to take down those videos, thousands get pulled every week or day due to copyright infringement. Your really flogging a dead horse to make a mountain out of a molehill PURELY because it's Samsung.

Actually you don't know the letter of the law as neither do I. But here there is a fair use policy, which the courts can decide. Please leave the horse out if this.

Because without Apple in a post there is no hyperbole?

Seemed like a parody video to me? Is it still available on the internet? Yes, a parody intentionally makes fun of something:

As far as bias, at least it's (anandtech) less bias than an android fan site.
[doublepost=1477046956][/doublepost]
Actually I do with YouTube and every company or person can demand material that breaches their copyright be taken down.
But if you want to ignore that law carry on.
Right and you do know sometimes it happens even if there is no law broken. So no you don't. All that will happen is the videos will reappear with a less distinct form and then what? Is a form of that parody still available?

To each their own personal biases about what is felt to be unbiased.

Samsungs reputation took a beating, they should focus on their customer issues, defective products without trying to control the internet; which they will lose.

Copyright law you mean. Using an image or material owned or created by another party without their permission, especially when it's used to slander that other party. Seems pretty clear to me.

Then why didn't Rockstar Games use an exact copy of the iPhone in game and did some subtle variations to avoid getting sued?
Because they're making money off of its portrayal.

I don't even know where to begin. Anand has not been the boss for several years. He's not even the editor. He doesn't even work for Anandtech, and hasn't for several years.

If you're going to go all nuts on conspiracy theory, at least make the effort to be up to date.

Not clear at all. Parodies and news items are considered a fair use of copyrighted images. What is wrong is using the dcma in this. Hope the dcma gets amended. Even then people have already got the message and these mods can be recreated using a generic phone and people will still understand it. If I were Samsung I would focus on the customers first.

News items I think you'll find are different though and have to be fact based anyway. What news are you referring to though as I'm thinking mainstream? Even so if a popular channel reports things like apparent leaks of say a games console, their videos can and are taken down on request of the manufacture.
I think the issue was using very clear models of the Note 7 repleat with the Samsung logo on it, more a copy then a parody.

Things like this (pretty much the Streisand effect) will make it just take much longer for people to forget.

Lots of companies have used the DMCA to threaten people. Heck, look at how much Apple has wanted it to make jailbreaking illegal.

Apple also used it to shut down that store stock tracker site. Remember?

Invoking the dcma on Jailbreaking seemingly is a valid use of the law, much more so than The way Samsung used it.

Good that a current event about 3 years ago was used as an illustration.:)

Rockstar didn't infringe any copyrights as they didn't create the mod. A friend of mine creates all kinds of mods for GTA, anybody can do it. It's just a bit of fun, people here need to lighten up.

Youtube reinstated the video according to this. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/samsung-note-7-gta-mods-blowing-up.2008301/#post-23762523

My feeling is they should concentrate on their customers and make that right first.

I would expect to see the video removed again then.
And I think they have done enough, a full refund plus $100 plus keep what ever gifts you were given for ordering which themselves are worth $200 or more.

The only ones that are seemingly left are those who were caught out by the flying ban, we won't discuss the ones who phones are said to have caught fire as you'll never know what they will get, the guy who's truck burnt up will no doubt get a new truck for instance.

Do you want Samsung to give over 2 million people a free phone?

It won't be removed and will go to court if necessary, as I surmised.

Your last paragraph pure hyperbole.

100 isn't enough to compensate for the sheer disrespect they have for their customers' safety. When presented with the issue initially (which never should have passed QA), they tried to shift the blame to battery manufacturers like a bunch of children and without doing any research at all. Then they proceeded to ship the very same hardware back (with a cute new battery icon), putting customers' safety at risk once more. 100 is not even close to compensating a customer for that kind of treatment.

Oh dear Samsung. A case if if you can't take it then do not dish it out. Would not have even known of it if they had not took issue with all of these parody video's.
