You keep showing Samsung's lock screen compared to a an unlock iOS screen? How about show an iOS lock screen like this:

Great.....so lets be honest.....using your own side by side picture. Would you buy an Alpha thinking it was an iPhone?

I look forward to seeing this next to the 4.7" iPhone 6.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people crying about Apple copying Samsung

It's such a desperate, obvious ploy.....come up with your own stuff Samsung.

Right, because it's only about the display size.....

Though it is curious why Samsung would go BACKWARDS when it's clear they feel 5"+ is the premium range.

Perhaps we should ask HTC....they did 4.7" smartphones before it was "cool".

4.7" screen size was very popular for awhile;

- Galaxy Nexus was 4.7"
- Nexus 4 was 4.7"
- Galaxy S3 was 4.8"
- HTC One M7 was 4.7"

I love the looks of the Alpha and can't wait to get my hands on one.
And no it does not look anything like an iPhone. It looks like a smaller S5 or Note3.

Of course we don't know if this is the final design, but this gives you an idea...

Cool - thanks.

My big thing with the Alpha is it just seems like a somewhat pathetic attempt to try to directly compete with the iPhone 6. It tells me 2 things about Samsung:

(1) They are in no way confident in their own flagship devices (GS5, Note 4) so they feel the need to move backwards in many ways (at least from their current offerings) in order to match certain rumored specs of the iPhone 6.

(2) They are clueless as to what iPhone users want if this is their competing device.

Honestly, I think it looks far better than the GS5/Note 3 and would be even better if they got rid of the bandaid backing. I just think it screams "Uh oh, the GS5 can't even beat the iPhone 5S - quick, what do iPhone people like? Let's get that out the door ASAP!"

(I'm well aware they have been talking about using metal in the construction of their devices for a little while now....but it makes very little sense to do so outside of their flagship lines that have become so popular.....though I suppose this is still a "Galaxy" device)

The alpha looks like a gs2 advanced that was out 3 years ago.Samsung is giving people a high spec soc in a smaller chassis that many have wanted ever since they started going bigger.

All I ever wanted was a gs5 mini with the same specs but a smaller screen.this alpha is geared for that market and also for girls that want a smaller phone.

They still messed up big time for me as they went 720p and 2gb ram.

I'll wait for the alpha 2 and hope its a 4.8 in 1080p with zero bezels and the latest soc

Agreed - I said this in the Note 4 thread, if the Alpha was their attempt at a new flagship line I think it would work better. The timing just puts it in a bad spot IMO....

But they're headed the right direction. Just because I think it's a shameless ploy doesn't mean I don't think its a good move.

I don't know why they would go with 720p instead of 1080p...makes no sense to me......

a better place
And I have not used my S5 or G3 since I got one from swappa. :)

Now I have to take a hard look at the ip6. Damn!

Yeah I'm loving mine. It's genuinely the most comfortable phone i've used.

I'm thinking of selling my S5 and buying the white Alpha, and an iPhone 6.

The lack of expandable storage and only having a 720p display makes this a non starter for me. It does look nice though.
