You'll notice this forum is filled with tech enthusiasts. Most of which probably won't be fulfilled buying a 6 month old phone that's been superceded.
Yeah I totally get that but I would still buy a phone halfway through its first year. Three quarters not so much. With the new 5G networks being rolled out I would be inclined to pass on phones over the next 12 months or so as heat/battery life need to get optimised on 5G. It's new tech.

As for old tech, my Note 12+ doesn't feel much faster or do anything that my Note 8 can't do. The tech march has slowed down to a crawl now and those who upgrade flagships every 6-12 months really are throwing their money away IMO. We can all make calls, surf the net, send messages, use apps and take photos perfectly well on previously flagship phones that are years old. Gone are the days when your new phone out and out wowed you. With them costing what they do now it baffles me why people still upgrade so often. I am however resisting the call for 36 month contracts. I will definitely upgrade every 2 years!

Got a question ..
I can play the video below @ 2160 resolution on my s9+ but the max resolution for Note10+ is 1440s ?? Bit funny, setting is WQHD for both phones.

[automerge]1582895141[/automerge]
How come s9+ plays @2160s resolution where as Note10+ only 1440 max ?

Again, this is a forum for tech enthusiasts. You might not think a Note 8 is different from a Note 10, but the wide angle lens disagrees.

Just because upgrading a phone every 12 months is throwing away money to you, it’s not for you to say what value others see in their purchases.

Your reasoning about passing on 5G phones for the next 12 months or so is amusing to say the least.

Do Samsung phones in android 10 have an option to record calls? I need that function for work (interviews over phone call).

On my Huawei P20 the feature is inside the phone app.

No, not factory installed. Privacy concerns. Of course Huawei doesn't care :) there are apps on the play store. check with your local authorities if it is even legal and you need consent from the other caller.

I'm a "tech enthusiast".
I upgrade my phone at least every 24 months and always get an out-and-out flagship.
I used to upgrade every 12 months and have been known to buy two phones in one year.
I didn't say that the N8 is no different to the N12+ but I am however noticing very little difference between upgrades these days. A bit more battery life, a slightly better camera, a different (*but inferior) way of reading my fingerprint and webpages loading maybe a millisecond faster but nothing to make me wet my pants in joy. Heck even the 12G of RAM hasn't put an end to reloads and refreshes. Surely I'm not the only person questioning the validity of frequent upgrades?

For $1000 I am beginning to think that I"m being mugged off. Sure the specs say that the processor is twice as fast and that there's twice as much RAM but in real world useage that equates to next to zip.

Going from a Note 8/9 to a Note 10, just adding a wide angle lens is a big enough upgrade for lots. And from a Note 10 to this year's Note 20 will likely be another big upgrade going by the S20 Ultra camera system.

Then there's people who upgrade every year going to a completely brand, which will often feel very different.

Most get good deals, the cost isn't always that much anyway.

Interested to know where you got the idea people shouldn't buy a 5G phone because of heat? And why do you keep saying Note 12?

Dunno why I keep saying Note 12....typo/ineptitude I guess.
I don't call the camera upgrades "big". I really don't. Upgrades yes but most of us don't buy smartphones for the camera. If we did we'd be packing Pixels or Huaweis. I expect any flagship I buy to have a decent smartphone camera but I never buy a phone for the camera.

As for the 5G thing, I read an article that said it's new technology and it will take a year or two for the networks to settle and the phone tech to adjust to the new power. Heat and battery drain will be issues for early adopters. The Note 10+ is a 'pretend' 5G phone, it works on a faster version of LTE really and not the full bore 5G that will be up and running over the next 6 to 12 months (*here in the UK anyway).

5g variant in uk is usually a week or 2 behind 4g variant but atleast it's on the way!

I must say, in the last couple of years I have had the Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note9 and now a Galaxy Note10 as my daily drivers (long term use amongst the occasional head turns) and all have had their monthly updates within the month the update was meant for.. bravo Samsung! It is clear Samsung is trying and is getting better at the slow update malarkey! 👍

I always thought it was a bit daft, Samsung only had to call them say April update instead of March and no one would of complained in the last 4 or 5 years opposed to 2 and claimed they got them ahead of time lol

I think far too many overreact as long as you get something preferably each month whats the issue :) of course some have lazy carriers, but that's not Samsung

Has everyone got the March update? Still on January here and if I don't get the March one, I'll probably sell it.

Does anyone know how often software updates are pushed out for those in the U.K who have a new Samsung phone? Unlocked and using pay as you go.

Meh, updates. Bloody hate 'em myself. You either get a bug, a change you didn"t want, or worse battery drain. I simply cannot stand an 'update' that introduces a battery drain so I keep all updates switched off. I have just been burned too many times.

The only time I get to see a new operating system or new feature is when I buy a new phone and I wouldn't have it any other way...
