Really love your posts, always unbiased and fair.
Oh, thank you, that’s so kind of you. I try my best. Lol, but I do post my share of clunkers.

@ Everyone have any of you taken a look at accessories for the Note 9 yet?

From Note 7 to S9+ I tended to go overboard at Slickdeals getting cases I ended up using only very rarely. I think I finally figured out I enjoy Samsung’s own cases the most. I use their folio style and have been so far spared the need for a display protector.

This time it looks like Samsung is going to offer a nice red leather one. I might get it to go with the blue Note and its yellow pen. So very Pokémon! :p

I really enjoyed the Fitbit Charge 2 HR I got several months ago. I got that after I returned the Samsung fitness band. The Samsung band felt like a handcuff after a few days...not that I go around in handcuffs or anything like that. o_O

I’m really excited to see Fitbit is going to release a water resistant version. That was what I most missed going from an Apple Watch to a Fitbit. The one I have does an excellent job of sleep tracking and is actually comfortable to wear to sleep.

It does notifications adequately from iOS. I have it paired to my Silver iPhone 8 Plus. But I’m currently back on my Apple Watch for the summer because I did need the water resistance.

This Fall I’ll pair it to my S9+ or Note 9 and see how it works. If it works well I will put the new one on my wish list for next Mother’s Day. I got the current one for Mother’s Day of this year.

As I keep saying, I have no plans to drop iOS or iPhones. But wearables are important to me and could potentially bind me to an ecosystem. I don’t want to be constrained to any one choice just because I am so dependent on the Apple Watch that I can’t get comfortable with a suitable multi-platform alternative. The Versa was a bit too big for me. But I loved the Charge 2 HR and am glad to see that one getting an update, too.

NICE! How were you able to get it so early? What are your thoughts?
My phone turned up two hours after I preordered, I'm still working and then when I get home the kids will absorb all of my time so I cant even play with it until later.
I think NZ gets phones earlier than most countries, I could be wrong but I remember getting most of my phones before the US.

I got a 512gb black, free wireless charger, free JBL wireless headphones, 200 off the price plus the swap deal looks like I should get 500ish for my Note 5 plus.
I thought it was more but it's not but 500 will do nicely.
So a bit over half price is pretty good really, it's a shame I don't have a case, I'll wait till I get a case before I use it and I'll throw the note 8 in the draw as a backup:)

Here in NZ, 512gb is 1999 inc gst.
Note 8 was 1699 for the 64gb model for comparison.

I was at Best buy today, and they have Note 9 cases already. I went ahead and picked up the Samsung rugged case, this way I won't have to worry about them being sold out when the phone comes out this Friday.

Thoughts so far, unreal amount of storage, will throw my 256GB card in there for a laugh.
The screen looks splendid, especially in Youtube watching 1440p HDR, but has the brightness limited for some reason.
The speakers sound so much better than my Note 8, the face unlock hybrid thingy seems fast and same with the fingerprint scanner.
Wifi is faster.. ummm..haven't really had much time to mess around with it more.

I just ordered an alcantara case off Ali for it.
I have an Incipio case coming in the next day or two hopefully.

Oh, mine will be Exynos no doubt.

Okay, this battery is going to be RIDICULOUS. I'm at 1 hr, 28 min screen time and I've only dropped 11% in that time. This is all during the setup of course while downloading all my apps and updates and what not.

Way way too early to make predictions on it, but here I am. :D

Wow, you guys get the black one in NZ? That’s great. And nice freebies! I am looking forward to the free headphones myself. I already have a pair from last time but I enjoy having extras around, what with me forgetting to charge mine regularly.

@Cryates look at you, already logging over an hour of screen on time! :D

Congratulations to happy early preorder recipients! Lol, I have to wait a month. People might be getting their new iPhones before I see my Note 9! That’s okay, I am not home and would actually be alarmed if I were to get a shipping notice on my phone right now.

Those that have the Note 9 already, I'm curious about the front camera. Is it still the same as previous Samsung's, in the sense it doesn't deal with face details very well? Faces always looked too smooth, as if the beautify mode was still on. The camera compared to the Pixel is what's stopping me buying one.

By default, there is a basic "beauty effect" on, but if you turn it off then selfie photos look no different than any other camera to my eyes.

Interesting to see what he says about battery life.
He said 6 hours, but doing the math he was probably looking at more like 7-8 hours SOT.

It’s more a cultural thing than a technology issue, so don’t expect too much. I read an article that talks about how popular cosmetics and plastic surgery are in South Korea for both males and females. Yep, men wearing makeup:

“Competition, Conformity, and Advertising
In South Korea, appearance and people's impressions of you are of supreme importance. You have to submit a photo with every job application and there is fierce competition in the workplace (80 percent of students go on to higher education). Since looks are integral to the hiring process, men and women take great pains with their appearance. Plastic surgery and makeup, for women and now for men, are signs of social success.”

From this link http://www.worldlifestyle.com/beauty-style/new-normal-korea-men-wearing-makeup

I’m half white and half Asian. The Asian side being a mix of a bunch of things. I can verify my life was a living hell because of the obsession with appearance above all else getting knocked into my beauty queen mom’s head. After I turned 13 she would grab me and scream in my face I was ugly until I agreed to put makeup on. I can forgive her for it because I saw how savagely she was criticized when she went back to her old village for a visit after daring to gain a few pounds at 41. Thankfully she’s not like that anymore. She’s very nice and a very sweet grandmother.

@Cryates oh I saw your post come in as I am writing mine. That's good to know. I have filters turned off on my S9+ and still thought selfies look a bit idealized. Of course at 52, I don’t actually mind so much. :p

@GrumpyMom Just been watching a comparison video and for the most part, I just don’t like how Samsung handle pics using the front camera. I prefer a more natural and realistic look. Not into all these lame filters people use and certainly wouldn’t use the awful beautify mode. It’s my one and only complaint with Samsung.

I'm really really liking intelligent scan. I know it's not Face ID-level secure, but it's certainly secure enough for my needs. It's slower, but at least I actually have a fingerprint sensor on this device as well!

is it more than just iris scanning? honestly, I missed the keynote so haven't read up on it much. If it's more than just iris scanning, is it quicker? that was my one issue with iris scanning in previous models. Way too slow.

The results can be weird that’s for sure. I’ve had a few of mine turn out in a way that reminded me of this

28607F0D-EB99-4955-B9DE-B90B6692EA59.jpeg

:p

I do think the Pixel selfies err too far in the opposite direction, though. Then even the younger prettier folks can end up looking harsh.

What I DO like about the Samsung phones I’ve had is that they have a setting to prevent the kind of lens distortion that causes noses and cheeks to look huge and foreheads and chins to look small. It used to frustrate me that selfies on other phone cameras made me look like a demented chipmunk.

So how’s the Note 9 performing in terms of call quality? I hope it’s up to the usual standard.
