Folsk who have your Note already, are you running at the default FHD+ or WQHD+? It's hard for my eyes to notice much a difference tbh, but I can't imagine there's much of difference in battery life unless there's quite a bit of gaming, or 1440p video streaming going on.

I changed to WQHD+ but can't really tell a difference tbh.

Is there an option to set Google Photos as the default gallery app? Doesn't seem so from researching but wanted to see if anyone here knew differently. I thought Android was about options lol?

Just out of curiosity, what specific obstacles are you facing?
1. HomeKit - I miss the convenient shortcuts from control center as well as a signsi centralized location. Looks like the smart things app could centralize them but you need their job to set it up with hue lights.
2. Keychain - this is an ecosystem thing. I can move it over to Google in time. 1 password integration is mediocre at best and if you want facial authentication you have to adapt Samsung pass .
3. In general I'm fine with going from one ecosystem to another (apple to Google) but with a Samsung device you have to adopt Samsung's as well for some features to work. The battle between Samsung and Google is obvious and it's annoying as a consumer.

Outside of that, I love the hardware and also enjoy the flexibility .

Yeah, that's all understandable. I ran into the same issue with my Hue lights. It tells me I need the Smart Things hub to make those lights work with the app, which is annoying. I've only got three Hue lights and they are all in my living room. Luckily I can tell Google Assistant to turn them all off if I need to, but I've already got them automated through the Hue bridge so I never even touch them most of the time.

Not much difference. The screen is pretty gorgeous regardless of which setting you choose.

One thing I am noticing after a couple of days however are jitters when app switching, and some lag when opening apps. I have an unlocked version too, so no carrier bloatware. It would be absolutely amazing and depressing to me if after the S9 Plus Sammy took a few steps back in the performance dept.

That's a child though. They always want the latest whatever it may be because their friends have one. And if an adult believes owning one improves their social status, they've got issues.
Premium products are status symbols. Always have been.

These are pretty much my feelings as well. Completely agree about HomeKit. 1password integration is terrible on the Note (specifically because Samsung browser doesn't support the Oreo autofill feature). I'm running the 1pazswod beta for iOS 12 and it integrates so well in place of Apples stock keychain, they really did a great job.

But overall your comment about having to adopt Samsungs stuff for certain things is the biggest deal breaker for me. This is the exact opposite of why I want to use Android. Prime example is not being able to use Google photos as the default gallery app (to the best of my knowledge). So many great things about the Note tho so I'm struggling (lol) to let go of it but I know that I'm going to because of the "issues" I'm having. Maybe I'll try the Pixel.

On another note the battery life on the Note is amazing. I've been using it non stop since 7am and am at 22% 12 hours later (5.5 hrs screen on time)

I believe that the iPhone (To many people but not me in particular) is a status symbol. I have a good friend who bought the top model iPhone X the day it came out for no other reason than the status of having the top of the line model on day 1. Sounds dumb to me but a reality for many people.

Spent about 2 hours playing with my Note today. Definitely a lot of good features but some things just feel downright clunky compared to the iPhone. I use 1Password and the auto fill feature on android is terrible imo not to mention that the Samsung browser doesn’t support it.

Another thing that’s really pissing me off is that Google assistant will not read calendar appointments off of my family calendar (created through setting up my family group). Maddening especially since both Alexa and Siri can do this.

I’m also finding home automation management kind of a pain on android. HomeKit gives me an excellent widget to quickly turn on and off my devices. The SmartThings widget as well as the notification panel widget is terrible. Google home home automation is nice voice wise but I like having buttons on my phone that I can press

Most of these issues are Android issues as opposed to Note issues. As far as the actual Note goes, I’m loving the camera, loving the screen, loving the S pen, and loving a lot of other little things the Note does.

Just gotta love Android a little more in order to keep it.
I use Autofill with the Samsung browser all the time.

Using the 1password keyboard or native Android autofill?

Here's the iOS vs Note 1passwodd implementation. Keep in mind the iOS version is a beta of their new software.

Edit:. Seems like u have things slightly mixed up. The Oreo autofill seems to be supported everywhere BUT the Samsung browser (which is the biggest place where it's useful imo)

Can’t you use Samsung pass to save your log in details? Then it gives you a prompt and you use your iris/FP to sign in.

The screen on this phone is simply beautiful, there is something about it that the colors seem more uniform and "solid" to me. Big props to Samsung continually improving these displays, hopefully the screen the next iPhone X gets is just as good.

I'm seriously loving this phone, it's night and day to me from the Note 8, anyone that says it's simply incremental is wrong, they improved everywhere it matters, and all those small improvements add up. My Note 8 spent most of the past year in a drawer, I can't see anything replacing the Note 9 in the near future, at least until the S10

I think his point is he prefers to use 1Password as it’s available across all his hardware. Samsung Pass is limited solely to his Note. On iOS, that’s exactly how 1Password is implemented but on Android it’s an inconsistent experience usually requiring the clunky keyboard switching he showed in his second video.

I'm using the 128gb at the moment, my 512gb is back ordered and delayed.

I might go the other route. After using the 512 for a few days, I can't imagine the premium is worth it. I may "degrade" to the 128. I know I'll only have the phone until the S10 comes out, so why in the world should I worry about future proofing it?

I can tell the difference between FHD+ and WQHD+, my eyes can pick up the lack of sharpness on text very easily, it's a bit of a curse as I tend to pick up details like this even when trying to watch 1080P 60FPS HDR videos I can see the imperfections all over the place.

I've been running my Note8 at WQHD+ from day 1 and would do the same with the Note9.

I can handle video that has imperfections, but Text needs to be sharp and clean.

It's incremental mate and if your N8 spent most of your year of ownership in a drawer then I expect the N9 to follow it shortly.

Yup, me too. Things just look a little fuzzy in the lower settings.

All the little things add up. After a few days with the Note 8 I knew it wasn't for me, I was very disappointed as I had used the Note 4 and 5 as my go to android phones for a year (and I loved the 7 before having to give it back).

The Note 8 just didn't do for me, and I gave it to my wife after about a week of use. She used it for about 2 months before going back to her iPhone 7 Plus, and it basically sat in the drawer since, I'd pull it out every now and then but I much prefer using my Essential Phone, S8 Active, and S9.

The Note 9 is a different beast.

I'm having a hard time returning my Essential phone haha. Got it for $300 on Amazon a couple weeks back. I'm not a person who typically keeps more than one phone, but it's so good. I've got until Sept 9th to send it back.
