It's pretty interesting how Apple now has a phablet sized device at $750, or a tad bit cheaper than the Note 9. If the Average Jane/Joe can get passed the screen resolution and type differences, then that could mean Samsung might have to be more aggressive with the S9+ pricing to undercut the iPhone XR.

Though, the corner cutting is laughable at times because some Android OEMs don't need to corner cut as much. Head phone jacks, OLED screens, FP sensors, fast charging out of the box isn't just priced for the flagship $800-$1000 devices.
Apple does not build a Galaxy Note competitor, even the iPad Pro 12.whatever is held back by iOS.

Samsung must just price the Galaxy S9+ cheaper and keep the Note9 as their premium device.

No matter what, the XS Premium will be compared to the Note 9, especially with the price point. If you had told me that Apple Pen support wouldn't have existed in the 2018 iPhones (way back in say September 2017)? I would've said wow Apple is being nearsighted.

I agree the S9+ is much more comparable to the XS Max.

I am kind of glad they did not support the Apple Pencil or I seriously would've contemplated the Xs Max...lol Money Saved!!!
I always find it not like Apple for these 2 Apple hardware not being able to "talk" to each other.

Given the current design language, the Apple Pencil would be poorly implemented. You have to constantly charge the Apple Pencil w/ a lightning port. Samsung doesn't need a specific charging outlet. The Note series really implemented a stylus very well. Apple would need to find new courage to use space gained from a headphone jack removal to get an Apple Pencil better implemented.

The only way the Apple Pencil works logically with an iPhone is if there is a storable, mini version of it. They'd absolutely have to implement it in the same fashion of the Note. Unfortunately, the ghost of Steve Jobs would forever live in Tim Cooks house if that happened, so I have my doubts we'll see it. Apple Pencil support would also make the iPad a little more insignificant overall, and they have to keep that line healthy while they're dominating its market.

I don't think Apple will store it the same way Samsung does it. If you look into their aesthetics, they are all about being port-less and hole-less. I think the Apple pencil can be magnetically attached to the phone like how the cover is attached to the iPad... I like how Microsoft Surface implemented their stylus and the smart cover.. I feel Apple might go that direction.

Eh, while I agree Apple won't be interested in storing it in the body itself, it's the only logical option. I can't imagine how many folks would lose a stylus/pencil if it was held on by what would be a relatively weak magnets.

Also Apple would either a) sell it separately if magnetic or b) charge an extra $100 if it was included and stored in the phone body. Neither of those is a great pricing option for the consumer.

I've cratered, and decided to return my Note 9, and Galaxy Watch to Best Buy Friday morning when I go pick up my new iPhone Xs Max Gold 512gb phone. I will probably pick up a watch then or order it. Haven't decided on the color watch since I am unsure if the Gold Color would look right on a guy...I am use to Silver/Black watches.

The Note 9 started having issues recently, that I decided, while I can, to get out. Best Buy gave me 30 days so, I may just have to pay the return fee for $30, but that's it.

1. Camera constantly locking up. (Big issue among the Samsung/Reddit boards).
2. Battery drain suddenly.
3. My Insurance Drive Safe app will not work any longer on the phone and my insurance company is useless trying to figure it out. Either my rate goes up by $60 a month or I switch phones.
4. Everyone in my family has iPhones, so it only makes sense to stay with the eco system.

Yeesh, you're free to do what you want obviously, and we've all been there before, but this is a stark turnaround from your comments as recent as yesterday.
[doublepost=1537231547][/doublepost]Got a DeX Pad and messed with it some tonight (yeah I know I'm way late on DeX :p), but it's pretty cool! Definitely has a heavy Chrome OS feel to it. Plenty good enough if you just want a bigger screen/workspace experience. I like that the pad silmutaneously fast charges the phone. Only downside I've found so far is the USB-C plug on the pad doesn't go all the way into the phone's port with the rugged case on.

There are many iPhone fans that do this. They have no intention of changing to galaxy but got one anyway to play with (just to return it later).

It's actually looks really good here. Normally I'm not a gold fan. Still planning on getting space black though.

Yeah, for sure. To slander Apple, saying they're two years behind everyone else, pricing themselves out of the market, etc, then to buy the $1,450 version of the phone though? That's another level of extreme. To each their own though, not going to fault folks who feel like they're making the right decision.

Well that’s a shame about the problems. I’m going to have to check that out. I’m quite shocked to hear of anything like the battery drain. My husband ran across that ages ago on his S7 Edge but that was a rogue app, if I remember correctly. Android Nougat on up has gotten increasingly better at putting a lid on that sort of thing.

It can be challenging if everyone else in your family is on iPhones and uses iMessage and FaceTime. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your Max and Apple Watch.

Note series really is optimized for some serious power uses most people don’t have a use case for. For most of us it’s overkill and the S9+ is a general purpose beast of a phone. I’m still hoping to get back onto the Note upgrade track eventually though. I’m a Post-It notes kind of gal so I miss jotting down notes on my Note during the brief time I had a Note 7.

My husband likes the Note series, too. We are keeping our eyes out for the deals and price drops a few months from now. He is hoping the copper color will come to the US, too.

One thing we both are a little wary of, and are keeping an eye on is the tendency of the current cameras to let in a bit too much light. It’s not a problem to adjust going into pro mode. But we are wondering if there might be a solution for the auto mode forthcoming in either a software update (this happens on the s9, too). Or if it’s something the S10 upgrades will address.

People do things that other people, sometimes can't fathom.
It's a free world for the consumer and their money.
Here in NZ you buy, you keep, no swapping just because.
If I had the option of trying a device for a few weeks and being able to swap at no loss, I'd probably do it too.

No such swapping where I'm at too.
The way it is done in U.S. is spoiling (and punishing) its consumers. No wonder US have such expensive monthly phone plan.

I’m really having trouble getting my head round the iPhone X max. It’s just too expensive and it’s boring. Apart from the screen size it isn’t an upgrade on my X.

At least the note 9 is justified in its price. £1099 in the uk and you get 512 GB of storage an Bluetooth stylus, it can become your desktop computer. You can do VR, a great battery.
[doublepost=1537298882][/doublepost]Has anyone got the new galaxy watch? How is it?

To Note 9 owners: Are you happy with the speed of the device now that you have owned one for a few weeks?
I'm happy with mine. The only area that it appears to struggle in is running some emulators, the PS2, GameCube, and Wii emulators run a bit choppy, but I don't think any phone would be able to run those smoothly at this point.

BTW, still using this as my daily driver, loving it, and I'm glad the Note is back after a disappointing Note 8 last year.

Best Buy will just sell the phone as an "open box" unit and discount the price 10%.

The vast majority of people take their new toy home and keep it. Best Buy knows this. They know that they will sell more units if people feel they have the option to try before they buy.

In the United States, many car dealers are more than happy to let you take a car home to test drive. They know the probability of a sale goes way up once they have you seated in the car.

We have nothing like this in the UK either. If you buy from amazon then you can return within 30 days for a full refund. Apple you get 14 days and the carriers offer you an exchange or cancellation within 14 days. That’s it though. All the other stores you can’t return unless it’s faulty. Unless you bought it online but you’re not allowed to use it.

Around the Christmas holidays you sometimes get almost a full month even with Apple if the phone was ordered online. That’s how I was able to have an iPhone X for a month and finally figure out it was not for me. It took awhile to figure out pwm flicker issue wasn’t going to go away. That is unfortunately a risk I take again ordering the Maximum Excess. <= Hey my autocorrect is typing that out for me now, I’m just going with it. ;) But now I know what issues to look out for and will know soon enough whether or not I need to return the phone and try the XR.

Given the amount of times I’ve been stuck with a lemon (iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 Plus, my first Galaxy S7, my first iPhone 8 Plus) or had a phone go prematurely weird on me (iPhone 7 Plus) or plain annoy the living crap out of me (S8+ and IPhone 6 Plus again) I don’t feel any tingle of remorse when I can avail myself of the option to return.
