8.1 is tested and seems solid. I was on beta last fall on S8+ while 9.0. Pie is still in development and testing. Like how iOS 12 is still public beta?

I’m not sure if I’m following you, but iOS 12 has been out properly since last month.
And every release if Mac or iOS (esp new phones) suffers until .2 or .3. it ain't ready. It isn't what it should be after even the beta phase.

they didn't test against production mideks for one. March it Feb us when. Look at IS X Lion etc. we're solud only at the end. Never ever us dot zero release bug free.

Does anyone here suffer from late notifications?
My email (outlook, samsung email, others as well...) notifications don't come. Same goes for Viber and Whatsapp messages. Even my Transparent Weather Widget on home screen doesn't refresh.

Only one thing helps: entering that app. As soon as I do that, I get notifications.
I've removed those apps from optimized apps, and done a bunch of other stuff I found googling, but nothing seems to help. What's even more strange is that this is happening in just last week or so. Before that everything was normal.

I didn't receive any updates, or changed anything on my Note 9.

Did you put those apps in "Always Sleeping Apps" in Device maintenance?
Did you turn off "background data" for those apps or Android System in "Application"?
Did you turn on some options in Developers Options?

Anyone else have a really hot handset incident during prolonged wireless charging?

I'm talking about nearly too hot to touch?

I hope it was an one off.. I have a short window of potential returns.

Serious question:

How do you guys justify buying this phone and it doesn't even come with the latest OS and won't for several months?
Samsung takes Android and more often adds features that will only appear in later versions of Android. With a Samsung Android you never really feel behind as even the latest and greatest Google Nexus/Pixel with the very latest Android version still pales in comparison to a top end Galaxy S OR Note in terms of functionality.

I even forget that my Galaxy Note8 is on Android 8.0 still, but at least it has the very latest Android Security Patch.

Also since Google updates the Core Google apps for Android 9 separately....you really are not missing much.
Samsung updates all of the Samsung apps to match Android 9 as well......
So as long as security updates are being pushed out not much is missing to be honest.

Exactly.

Everything has become so modular that you really only need the latest Security Patch, everything else can be updated without having to worry about a whole OS update.

Apps that need to run background should not be in "Always sleeping apps"

I've answered quickly and wrong. If you read my first post, they are running in the background. They aren't even 'optimizied'. Googling I've found many users with same issue.

I don't want to reset my device, and won't due it for at least a week. Will try to find a solution.

I think device maintenance is an app which runs on top of android system. So it may override the values in Settings.

Also system wide vpn-based adblocker like Adguard can cause issue too

I kind of wish I could change the Bixby button to open other things, but other than that this is still the best phone I've ever had.

Awesome. I'm going to make it a Google Assistant button.
Do you think it's safe to give BXactions app permissions? Just asking for information/opinions bc I've been considering using it to disable Bixby and remap as Google Assistant but then hesitate when it asks for those permissions....

I did it, but I generally don't think things through. I haven't heard anything bad about it so far.

Before applying security update, undo Bx and look for Bx to need to be updated.
Also, Sept update to Bixby -
Bixby update killed BxActions

Crazy battery life on the Note 9! Now I'm on the fence between getting another iPhone XS Max (I returned my Gold one) or going with the Note 9. I wouldn't feel good to drop $1.200 on the Note 9 when I got my Note 8 working perfectly fine, but that battery life... :(

If you can hold off until next year, the 7nm process should mean even better battery life. And that's when the big changes are happening anyway.
