Another Update

It's been another week with the N20 Ultra. I'm not going to lie, I've contemplated maybe justifying buying a Mac again and some remorse for selling my XR, but I think this is just natural when you make such a big change and get a bit fed up with the effort it takes psychologically to make it the new norm. However, this device has been doling great and slowly but surely I'm getting ever more fluent with it.

I discovered my portable battery for charging devices just about can output enough to keep the note alive, and doing anything when it dies and comes back on such as playing 8 Ball Pool is enough to kill my phone (in the middle of my daily Lucky Shot too, damn!). So I'm going to look into a newer more powerful output one in the new year. Anker maybe? Similarly, the included charger during DeX can just about keep the charge level, maybe charge it very slowly when doing intense things, such as the below...

I've enjoyed getting used to Minecraft with the keyboard and mouse - it's not quite the same as W10 Edition on a PC or Java Minecraft on a Mac or PC control wise, but it's playable and I've set out to build a plantation on a new world, which will be entirely done on the Note (a god damn phone!!!) so I'm excited for that as a way to kill the hours in an on/off lockdown, wintery dark world outside of working. I have YouTube Vanced (THANK YOU FOR THE RECOMMENDATION! - Now I don't need to renew Spotify!) , a Gallery window if I'm building something on Minecraft and want to glance at it, a WhatsApp Window all showing at once. And the lag or stutter is no worse than it generally is on DeX even when all these windows including Minecraft are running. DeX isn't perfect, but it's actively changing my lifestyle tech wise.

I'm finding the odd use for the S-Pen, it's really handy to have and have it charged up all the time. I've joined that Samsung Members app, sort of a forum that reminds me of the genuine Apple forums in how locked down and controlled it is, but some helpful high ranking members on there pointing out features to me etc.

Looking forward to Android 11 and the new OneUI update ... god, I remember back in 2009 picking up a phone like the HTC (can't even remember the name) with a chin and a scroll ball and 'HTC Sense' UI and it was such trash. It looked cool in the marketing, but trying to use it was like trying to use one of those prop laptops at IKEA. Things have come a long way. What I'm really digging about Samsung, is what I always laughed at as an iPhone fanboy all these years. It's their desire to pretty much be Apple. As such, they're packing in a TONNE of features and as much power as they can (okay, so nobody can match the actual raw processing power...yet) but they're innovating and not afraid to invest in niche things like the S-Pen (think like the MagSafe in the Mac back in the day, niche, but useful and made it unique / quirky to enough people). They strive to improve the user experience with their One UI and it's debatably great at it I'd say. They try to have an ecosystem of things like those Buds and the wearable stuff, not sure how they compare to Apple's stuff, but the fact I can have things all the same brand that play nicely together, whilst not putting up a wall from third party manufacturers at the same time is nice, freeing and new to me.

I'll keep updating you all as time goes on so long as people find it interesting.

I really wish DeX was more popular and sold more of their phones so Apple would take note and 'do it right'... though in saying that, as I look at the iPad and iPhone, they do have a habit of holding things back so you still need a Mac etc... Whereas Samsung are putting it all into their phone as its the real core of their most profitable product line and probably will be for a long long time.

The arrangement of Samsung with Microsoft plus ability to do their own Sidecar / DeX / Android on Windows is interesting. But it mimics Apple

One UI 3 Android 11 tries to scale layout to fit 6" and up phones, which Apple ignored. I wanted to like iPhone 12 but.

An S20 or N20 seem fine using DeX for me so far plugged into Windows 10.

I'm happy that they will be doing another Note. I will skip the upcoming S21 lineup (unless it's too good to miss) and wait for the Note 21. Hopefully the new Exynos chip will be better along with battery life, if that is the case i shall be getting one.

I have learned one thing since i returned my Note 20 Ultra. I miss it, that in itself is a BIG deal for a big Apple fan like me. If Samsung can solve the Exynos and battery issues, i will be VERY happy indeed.

Weeks ago i had to fill in 3 online forms on my Note10+. The s pen was just unbelievably helpful. Sometimes when i forget my phone at work or other places i miss it too.

It seems you rushed returning your Note20 Ultra. Hope you are not regretting.

I miss my Note every day even though I’m happy on Apple.

I don't regret returning it because of the battery! But i do miss it, if that makes sense? it's weird because i have NEVER missed a device outside of the Apple ecosystem before

It really is. I’ve had some forms to fill in for my son’s nursery. I tried to fill them in with my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and I couldn’t do it. However I did it with ease with my old galaxy note 4.

It’s natural, LOL. I’ve done it probably 36 times by now.

Me too man, thankfully in the past I had student discount on my Apple stuff so i never really lost out too much financially... and of course, Samsung has the excellent 30 days try it returns for a full refund which kept me right.

Though this time I bought it from a local retailer so I can't return it to Samsung... oops.. and they are NOT selling for anywhere near £1200 on eBay to my dismay...

Price has dropped like a stone. I’ve seen several going below £700 now in the uk and they were looked after phones by all accounts

Well, I'm keeping my Note 20 (It's the us non-ultra). It's fantastic. Also, I have an iPhone as well. And, I have the Tab S7+ and an iPad with pencil.

Oh, and I have the Apple Watch 6 (my 1st apple watch). I'm interested to see how it compares to the Galaxy watches I had (currently have the Fitbit Versa 2).

My Note 20 is my daily driver but I carry both phones.

Don't get me wrong, going back to iPhone there's things I'll miss and maybe they'll never be on an iPhone .. like how Android handles Work Profiles and separates them, how Secure Folder gives my phone a hidden virtual phone essentially.. how the Dual Sim means my annoying work issued phone can live in its box... The Note series really is pushing the boundaries of what a phone is and can do. And tbh, I'm glad I've experienced it. Android certainly is not the thing to look down upon by iOS users like it sort of was in the earlier days, these endless list of features are no gimmicks and are quite refined. I was astounded at how long tutorials on the S-Pen on YouTube can be , but it's all organically grown over the years and Samsung seem to give users what they ask for much more than Apple so it's good to experience that.

Well it looks like I'll be getting in touch with Samsung in the New Year, seems like a common problem on the Note 20 Ultra screen, the FingerPrint sensor can also cause a similar issue to. :/
