Early rumours for the foldable Samsung phone hint towards an eye watering $2000 price tag!?
Yeah I'm not even putting it on a wish list or budget scheme. Too first gen and probably too expensive for me personally if I am investing in the Note 9 since it offers basically the specs and features I've been dreaming of for a couple of years now.

But I am very excited about it anyway. Whatever they're introducing will likely end up in my plans by Note 10 time or S11 time. And I am sure there will be incentives and deals.

Oh no, @Relentless Power and @jamezr my two forum Brofriends, y'all can't break my heart like this. I give both of you props for being more objective than most and supportive and respectful of Android and iPhones pretty fairly. Which is why it's kind of freaky to see you both going back and forth.

RP, good to see you. I don't hang out much in the main Apple-y part of the forum anymore. But every now and again I see you trying to tamp down some of the anti-Android fervor there even though iPhones are more your thing for now and I appreciate that. I've seen you take some heat for it. I hope someday you do cross over to the dark side. We don't actually have cookies, but sometimes we get free headphones and wireless charging pucks. :p

I think if you ever do make the actual crossover you'll understand better where Jamezr is coming from and it's not so much cynicism but seeing things from the perspective outside the ecosystem that you truly can't see, at least I couldn't, until I put a foot out of it. It's hard for me to articulate beyond floundering to vaguely reiterate that "we see things". It's a bit hard to take at times. It's why I had to ask to have my account suspended while I dealt with eldercare stresses. I didn't want to truly live up to my forum name because sometimes even a hobby has aspects that can make you grumpy.

Back to the subject at hand...if there ends up being a notch on this thing I will raise up an army of mutant zombie potatoes to lay waste to Samsung's Mobile division HQ.

Some are already writing off any features the S10 might have as useless :)
Its kinda interesting when some fans write off Samsung or Android features saying they don't care about that feature. But when the iPhone adopts that feature it is a great feature to have all of a sudden.
Does everyone remember wireless charging? How everyone said it was overblown and they didn't see the excitement. But when the iPhone got it years later.......it s great feature now.

Same thing with facial scanning software. It was touted as useless by iPhone fans and how much they loved TouchID......until Apple did away with TID now FaceID is so awesome.
Don't forget the the old 4" screen is the perfect smartphone size. :p

Will never happen. The notch is just one of the things Samsung resists to hold on to it's fan base.

And it'll probably take at least until the S12 before Samsung gets rid of the headphone jack. (if they actually do so).

Samsung will wait out the technology advancements for something like cameras/sensors underneath the display before they ever implement a notch. It'll also be a very very long time before they ditch the headphone jack. It really gives them an edge by having such a highly requested feature. There's a reason Apple's $10 headphone dongle has been Best Buy's number one selling product over the last two years.

The company’s most important phone of the year, the Galaxy S9, went on sale at the end of the previous quarter, but Samsung describes its performance as “slow.” Earlier this month analysts predicted that it would be the worst-selling Galaxy S flagship phone since 2012’s Galaxy S3.

The S9 deserved to sell better than it did. It's a great phone. I think it was just a victim of the S8 being so satisfying to too many people. And the S7/7 Edge holding up so well. Also can't deny the competition is looking so strong.

The funny thing is you totally missed the point of the post you replied too. We know the S9 didn't sell as well as Samsung would have liked, it was only a small incremental upgrade of the fantastic S8 so many are waiting for the S10. However the Headphone jack still sets Samsung phones apart from other Android devices that have followed Apple and gotten rid of it. Also as others have said the S9 is underrated and really deserved way more sales, its an awesome phone! The amount of sales does not always equal how good a phone actually is.

Between both Flagships. Historically, either the S or the Note line didn't sell as expected for most years, but never did both lines sell poorly within the year.

I didn’t miss any point. The poster stated the headphone jack was a highly requested feature and gives Samsung an edge. He only qualified his comments after I posted the article. I’m not a telepath, so I can’t speak to what he was thinking, only the words on the screen. The words on the screen ran counter to actual reality, i simply pointed that out.

Here’s my overall point that you missed: the headphone jack in 2018 doesn’t move the needle. And when Note 9 sales are low, which they will be, it’ll further prove that headphone jacks are a non-starter.

Agree. Yes, most people aren’t happy about the omission of the headphone jack but the previously mentioned fact that the little analog to lightning adapter is a best seller at Best Buy shows people are just dealing with it and not switching away from iPhone.

Annoyance? Yes. Deal breaker for most? Nope.

Not a deal breaker for me.....but it does go on to prove the point a lot of us have had about the motivation to remove the headphone jack. Money and selling adapters......and everything on the Beats line of accessories.
The dongle sells for $10 and my guesstimate is it probably cost under a dollar to make over seas.
Then rumors are the 2018 iPhones won't come with a dongle in the box so.......

Can you guess what the best selling Apple product was at BestBuy this quarter?
AirPods.....

Your whole post just proves you are only here to put crap on Samsung. Sad really.

Which is exactly why I just spent $1300 on a new Note 9.

Sorry if I disagree that the headphone jack is a vaunted feature with a huge demand, and I further had the audacity to actually back up the assertion with data.

Probably because Airpods are one of the best new products Apple has brought to market in a long time. They'd be at the top of that list even with a headphone jack still on the iPhone. They're easily the best truly wireless earphones on the market.

Yeah, headphone jack just isn't a thing anymore. Only people still grousing about it are the same group ten years ago that insisted a proper smartphone needs a physical keyboard.

Wow...so it has nothing to do with removing the headphone jack in your mind?

Apple cunningly and “courageously” created a pain point for customers by deleting the headphone jack. Customers have found that the best way to solve this pain point was to not have to deal with wires anymore and just buy the $160 accessory to be done with the dongle once and for all.

Man o man, I cannot wait for that in display fingerprint scanner. So the new rumor is, all three version of the S10 will be getting the in display fingerprint scanner. The entry version will be getting the cheaper optical reader, while the other two get the more advanced (and quicker) ultrasonic reader.

Oh I’ve never denied that Apple had a financial motive for doing it. And I actually don’t begrudge them doing it—they can go whatever direction they want with their business. But do resent their ‘reasons’ for doing it and treating us like morons.

Nope, never said that.

Are you saying that Airpods wouldn't be as popular as they are even if Apple had kept the headphone jack? I don't agree with that even a little bit. Quoting an article that expresses a guess as to their popularity that lines up with your guess doesn't make your guess anymore accurate.

But hey, as we see with the amazing sales of the Galaxy S9's, people are just in an absolute FRENZY to get their headphone jacks!

I am saying removing the headphone jack from iPhones helped AiPods became as popular as they are at BestBuy just like the dongles.
Are you denying removing the headphone jack from the iPhone didn't spike sales of accessories like the dongles and AirPods?

The you are free to quote your own sources....

The the sales of the S9 do not relate to this this at all...but nice deflection.....

Yes, I am denying that removing the headphone jack spiked sales of Airpods. They were a unique, well designed, great performing item. A completely wireless eaphone option from Apple was always going to be a big seller.

The you are free to quote your own sources....

You didn't source anything. You quoted an opinion that you shared. There is no data proving what either of us is saying.

The the sales of the S9 do not relate to this this at all...but nice deflection.....

Deflections are used to change the subject, I've spoken directly to the subject(S) brought up, and articulated why I felt that way. If you can insist removing the headphone jack is the sole reason Airpods are as popular as they are, I can certainly refer to something anecdotal like lack of sales of a headphone jack phone to prove headphone jacks aren't important to most consumers.

One of us is using reasonable, and reasoned arguments to make their case. You are not.

One of a few videos around, based on rumours. The curve looks a little too much. The S range tend to be more curved than the Note? Not sure about a pop up camera, can see it having issues after plenty of use.

Oh I think I’d take the pop up camera over a notch if that was the only choice open to me. I rarely take selfies, pretty much only while on vacation. I am however, perfectly content with the minimal top and bottom bezels currently on offer, so I would prefer for Samsung to stick with that.

To be honest, I think I'd go pop up for the selfie as well. I've always hated the front facing camera open without knowing when an app was accessing it, malicious or otherwise. With a pop up, we know when it's on.
