I’m using the AKG Y50BTs. I’m not an audiophile but they are quite decent sounding and don’t cost a lot.
Oh, no, I think you did tell me. These were about 160 quid at release, weren't they? I'm not sure what they do differently from Apple, but Samsung own AKG, and AKG has a long history in the audio segment. It wouldn't be surprising if they have an upper hand not visible to the naked eye. BT seems to an issue even with high end earbuds like the Shure SE535 which are excellent in wired form. Though I think I'm in a very unique market segment compared to the typical consumer who wants tunes on the go.

I’ve tried having 2 phones for the last 3 years and I couldn’t do it. I can only use one phone because of the way I use a phone. It’s my primary computer (I have other computers) so it makes the other one redundant.
I know that as you've mentioned it before. I was more surprised she carries all three with her.

Yeah they were around £160 but I actually got mine as a few gift with my S9 plus. I’ve been using them more and more as my AirPods become less reliable and are starting to annoy me. The more I use them the more I’m starting to like them.

Gift through Samsung or another retailer? I've never fancied any of the gifts the American carriers offered or whatever Samsung offered. I usually buy after the promo period at the regular retail unless it's a temporary price reduction.

I've always preferred a NQA gift card to use at whatever retailer I wanted. I bought something a few years ago because we needed it and the gift card was 580 quid or $750. It was a weekend promo and I got lucky. At least that's usable unless they offered high end cans. I'd be chuffed if they threw in free HD 800 S References. :p

I can hear a Samsung rep saying, "Keep dreaming!"

I got my S9 plus from curry’s and the headphones arrived with the phone. It was a promo Samsung was running at the time.

Not bad. I don't recall what the promos were for Samsungs here in America. I vaguely recall a VR headset being available once. Some of the American ISPs that double as carriers will send out promo materials during a new phone release and offer an incentive. Free iPhone X with 2 year service bundle (which is cheap and doesn't actually pay for the phone) and isn't limited to new accounts. The chances of Samsung America offering the HD 800 S are as good as me growing wings and being able to fly. I forget what retailer or carrier it was, but they were offering a BOGO on a few flagship phones with X amount of service period or offering instant cash back or NQA or store specific gift card on purchase of a new device at reduced cost. Given the price to manufacture each device, the OEMs have a fair amount of leeway in terms of sales. If it moves units, it moves units.

I got my S9 plus in June. So well after the launch period when they were doing that promo. I don’t remember if there were any pre order gifts when it launched. Samsung used to be really bad with pre order gifts in the UK. It used to be the gear VR but they’d only had it with one retailer and it was for like the first 1,000 pre orders only. Since the note 8 we’ve had good pre order gifts and mid seasonal gifts too. The trade in deals for the note 9 were really good too.

The more I read the more tempted I am now! Roll on 7pm tomorrow!
If the rumour is true the S10+ will come with the Galaxy Buds in the UK for a promo I think I might have to take the plunge. Espeically interested in the Galaxy Active to update my currenty Gear Sport.

Yep my AirPods are just about ready for the bin so the galaxy buds are coming just in time. The more I think about it the more it makes sense.

As you’ve got the gear sport can I just ask does it give you notifications from news sites like bbc news and sky news.

Yup. Any notifications you receive on your phone you can set to receive on the Gear Sport. It shows a page in the Gear App of all the apps you have installed on the phone. You then just select which ones you want the notifications to come through onto your phone.

Thank you.
Does Samsung pay work well with it too?

Always use Samsung Pay on the watch and works a treat. You just have to remember that if you take your watch off, you need to go into Samsung Pay when you put it back on to type the PIN in. After that it's just a case of holding a side button and tapping it on the card reader until you take it off again.

Otherwise I may switch

No. It's ceramic, but not the ceramic you're thinking of. There are types of ceramics that are very hard and not brittle. There's a few ways to get a general idea of what ceramic Apple used in their one watch but it requires destruction of the watch to get an idea. Hybrid materials like lithium disilicate ceramic are incredibly strong in small amounts. It wouldn't be unheard of for it to be used in a watch body. It's also inert, so it won't cause allergic reactions. That type of ceramic is used in the mouth and can endure pressure a watch won't experience.

I hope it is but not seen any real info on it, supposedly a black and a white version, BTW I was referring to my Tag Heuer ceramic bezel not an Apple watch :D it was GM who though it may be more like bone china :)

I brought my 3 current regularly used phones with me. I have two with AT&T Sims in them and one on running on WiFi.

What I'm hoping to do is narrow down to one or two upgrade paths. Originally it was going to be iOS vs Samsung but I dabbled in HTC and Pixel.

I am loving what I am reading about the new One UI

Samsung’s One UI is the best software it’s ever put on a smartphone

I've had it installed on my S9 for a few weeks now and can confirm its really good. It honestly runs better then Oreo and I love how they brought the ui down closer to the bottom third of the screen. Software is no longer a major negative on Samsung phones imo.

I agree. Was worried about such a big change in my s9+ - But absoutely loving it. Samsung have realled nailed it.

I have an unlocked Note 9 and I still don't have it. I was hoping to get it before the S10 came out too.
I saw or read somewhere that it was starting to roll out on unlocked note 9’s but that could still mean it’s a few weeks away unfortunately.

No animation lags? I ended up with animation lag and had to change my animation settings in developer settings. Fortunately I have not seen any real lag in apps or app switching.

The only animation lag i get is in snapchat when i swipe left to bring up my friends list which has been there for as long as i can remember (App issue) I'm really sensitive to frame rate drops and i don't see any lag since installing One UI. I would say you probably just need a factory reset to give it a good "clean out"
