People planning on buying a new iPhone won't give 2 ***** what Samsung release. These phones are competition for similarly priced/specced Android devices and people who don't want to pay ridiculous flagship prices.

This^. Of course there are some people who aren’t tied to a specific brand but most people already have a preferred OS and are shopping based on that. People who want an iPhone are just deciding which iPhone fits their needs and price point. If they prefer Android, they’re lining up comparatively priced Android phones. And that’s why this phone is hugely problematic for the Pixel 5.

At this point, only nerds and those who place smartphone cameras above everything else are shopping for a Pixel. Put this phone next to a Pixel 5 and most consumers won’t think twice about getting a Pixel.

If I didn't already own a Samsung (I don't find it worthwhile changing phones for the same brand), it would definitely make me reconsider buying the Pixel 5. For the money, it looks great and a nice choice of colours.

yeah...rumors are Samsung is going to bring all of the Galaxy S and Note models together next year. Then concentrate on foldables
That’s what I’m waiting for. I’m keeping my beautiful pink S20 until then.
These phones here are very pretty and look to be a good value. I hope Samsung is very successful with them.

I’m probably not going to jump on foldables until they’re very sturdy and have some degree of water resistance. They don’t need to be submersible, I just need them to be reliably splash proof.

iPhone sales won’t even blink at this. There have been comparatively priced Galaxy S models with better specs in the past and they had no impact on iPhone sales. Most people buying iPhones aren’t even looking at Android devices.

Google, and their Pixel 5, on the other hand, just got bent over by Samsung.
The main apple sales is the non pro models so if the 5.4 iPhone 12 is 649 then yeah chances are this won't matter. However it makes the decide harder when you see the specs for this device compared to the rumoured specs of the iPhone 12

LOL so they put 120hz on this but couldn’t on the Note 20.
Technically the note 20 isn't near the starting price of the pro iphones

Its £849 here

Doesn't mean its an excuse though to not have 120hz even on a £850 device

I have mixed feelings about this.
First, this is the first Samsung "keynote" that I actually enjoyed. They really took a lot of notes from Apple's. The production value is much better, and no Korean executive fumbling his English.

The phone itself is expected, and a nice addition to the Galaxy S lineup.
But... my country got shafted. We get the Exynos version, and Samsung Indonesia is selling it for ~USD $670. And only 128GB model available.

Still, interesting move by Samsung. This is basically the S lite lineup, renamed to FE. WIll be interesting to see what Samsung will come up with for the Note 20 FE.

I don't think they missed a trick per se. I am sure Samsung already planned for this phone early on. Staggering the release made some sense that it would help sales in the Fall season.in the past they did this by releasing just different color version.

But Apple obviously has a much better timing and strategy, starting 2020 with a bang with the iPhone SE 2020. It coincided nicely with the pandemic and downturn economy.

Looks good, thinking of going back to Android and selling the 11 pro max and Apple Watch 3 and AIRPODS.

I could get a FE and maybe a Galaxy Active 2 and earbuds... I miss the multitasking.

Incredible value, should sell well, and make things very difficult for Pixel sales. Also, considering this phone was not even planned until sometime in March, just shows how well equipped Samsung is to quickly react to the unexpected. That being the pandemic.

The 5G version for $699 with Snapdragon 865 is pretty sweet imo. Plus fancy features like IP68 remains.

The annoying part is markets like us who got shafted with the Exynos version... :(

It should even affect the OPO 8T coming out in the next few weeks

Love the red model.

But...

I don't see the value, really. Here in Spain it's 699€ or more and you get the exynos chip. Do I need 5G? No. So I won't pay extra money for the Snapdragon.

Then, the screen is the same as my A71. Same resolution and probably same panel, although smaller.

Design is also the same, it feels, with only smaller punch hole. Plastic back as my A71, same 6GB RAM as my A71, same battery as my A71, etc.

120hz is awesome, but it eats the battery. I'm getting 2 days of battery life with my A71. Wouldn't change that for 120hz right now.

I also have USB-C, microSD, less weight, AND FASTER CHARGER!!! 25W vs 15W! Crazy.

So I don't see that many advantages. I also don't need waterproofing or wireless charging. Having 2 days battery life is more useful to me.

Maybe in a few months it will drop in price and then it'll be more appealing. Camera is yet to be see if it's good.

Doesn't records 8K and still 4K, which, again, my 300€ A71 already has in rear and front cameras.

So, I have mixed feelings. I expected lower price and Snapdragon in the 4G version.

Well, that's why Samsung has various models at different price points, to cover people with different needs.
Right now, this is probably the least expensive Samsung phone with IP68 rating, which might be important for some people. At least there's an option now to get an IP68 Galaxy other than the more expensive flagships or used older models.

I agree that the Exynos pricing is not ideal, but at the same time, Samsung is bundling various goodies like theGalaxy Watch Fit 2 and wireless charging stand with the pre-orders. It's quite tempting to be honest. But as an A71 user, I also feel that my A71 is quite adequate. It's more of a want than a need (to upgrade).

Actually, right now there are deals for the S20 4G for the same price as this FE or maybe even less.

When I was shopping for a new phone I even saw the S20+ new for 699€.

No curved screen is great, although. And the colors are so so good. I wish all models had that same vibrant variety of choices.

The original s20 5g is down to $670 on Amazon so think I’d choose it over the FE. That being said, flat display is so much more appealing....

Incredibly, your A71 also has a Snapdragon processor (765G) instead of an equivalent Exynos, despite being in the EU. It may not be as fast (debatable in real world use) as the S20 FE’s Exynos, but I bet the battery life is better and it doesn’t get as hot. That’s been my experience of Exynos SOCs.

BestBuy as well... Samsung will match the price if you going through them plus you get $70 in pre-order credit for accessories...

It's got the 730, which is fine for my usage. Haven't had any issues or slowdowns with apps or games.

Over time I think I've found that mid-range processors are great because they are the best for extended battery life and in real world usage as you say it's perfectly fine. And yeah, it doesn't get hot never.

I read many many comments in forums of new owners of the S20 lineup commenting on how hot it got with basic tasks, and that was another consideration for me to go mid-range this time around instead of flagship again.

I wanted flat screen, AMOLED screen, best battery life possible, big screen and ultrawide camera. And a reasonable price. No 600/1000 for a phone to get obsolete in 2 years.

Also, it was a very pleasant surprise that even my mid-range A71 will get 3 years of Android updates.

Great deal for 300€.

This is an incredible deal. Ultrawide+telephoto, SD 865, wireless charging/reverse charging, IP68, 4500 nah battery, 128gb expandable, 5G for $699 (and $100 off already on Amazon).

I bought this cuz it was almost free for me from T-Mobile. I'm trading in a Pixel 3a I haven't used in a year and T-Mobile is giving me $500 for, and I got a "5g Insider hookup" code for a $200 prepaid MasterCard. So this phone is costing me $65 tax plus my pixel 3a. I went for the Mint Green.

I'm still gonna buy the Pixel 5 too, because I can't help myself.
