I went on a little buying spree for 3 cases while discounts were active on Amazon. 2 Ringke Air-S cases like have for my 11 Pro (so I can match the phone to my outfits). And one rugged Armadillo Tek case for when I’m feeling extra clumsy (when the barometric pressure fluctuates a lot I can get kind of dizzy and clumsy, so it’s sort of predictable).

The Armadillo Tek case is a beast. I had to double check and make sure I didn’t accidentally order the one for the S20+. That’s how big it looks.

But the little Ringke cases really drive home how small Pinky S20 is going to be when it gets here. It’s going to be almost the same width as my little 11 Pro and just a little bit taller, about the height of the Xr I carried last year 😯. Wow. I think I picked the right one for me. I should be able to carry both of my phones now, easily! 😬

I am super excited and can’t wait for it to get here!

The consensus on the camera of the Ultra seems to be that it’s on par with the iPhone and Pixel. The 100x zoom is a gimmick and the 108 mp front shooter isn’t considerably better than others. But the zoom is much better than any other smartphone. Oh and autofocus is currently bad but Samsung plan on releasing the first camera patch before the release.

Well, I have something coming from Samsung on Tuesday according to Fedex. It’s probably the phone but they probably just created the shipping label ahead of time. Means I’ll probably get it on Friday. Or it could be the return box for the trade in I guess.

I took a look at the S20 Ultra today and it was nice. But I’m so happy and satisfied with my XS that nothing tempts me (plus, I have no idea what I would do with more than one phone). Additionally, now that I have an Apple Watch, I barely touch my XS. Not being attached to my phone is a refreshing change.

Mine is still just in process. Meanwhile they contacted me about my canceled Ultra and offered me 10% off if I place another order. I have until the end of next month to use that offer. But of course I can’t guarantee the same trade in values and bonus credits would apply. When Pinky arrives I’ll see if I’m truly happy with it. If not, I’ll take them up on the offer. I won’t even necessarily get a different model. I mean if I end up with a bad display or something.

I keep checking Samsung site here in KL mainly for the Flip but I have noticed they have extended the pre-order time on the S20's which is unusual

What's the motivation to purchase the Ultra? Given the tepid reviews and camera issues that aren't fully resolved by the latest update.

Out of curiosity I went to see all 3 models.at Best Buy. The differences between the + and Ultra are imperceptible side by side until you look very closely at the backside. Is it FOMO or flex? Samsung phones usually discount 35-40% within 6 weeks of release too?

I doubt very much the people on this thread are buying it for the 'flex'.

As for supposedly dropping 40% in 6 weeks, they absolutely do not in the UK. We'll be lucky to see a 20% discount in the first 6 months unless buying from eBay. So why not get the latest and greatest straight away with pre order freebies (and good trade in if you're in the US)?

I’ll assume this isn’t a troll post and answer...

the “tepid” reviews all say it’s one of the best android phones you can buy and that camera quality is already on par with the top performers. The issues with camera are autofocus hunting and some face smoothing, the former of which Samsung said will be fixed in an update dropping soon.

As for the camera issues not being resolved by the latest update, how do you know that? The update fixing autofocus hasn’t released to anyone yet.

As for the discount, that’s just wrong. While Samsung phones will see a discount after a couple of months, they are one of the few manufacturers where it makes sense to preorder because of the deals they give out. While they might run a $100-200 off in a couple months, it’ll be without the crazy trade in deals and bonus items offered with preorder. But saying the phone will be 40% off is just wrong unless you maybe buy some used ones and even then I doubt it.

Not a troll post. I was interested in the Ultra until I saw the crazy zoom issues in recorded video. The + simply seems like the better device.

These are really good points that I failed to consider.

I went with the regular S20 to get a small phone. But I considered the S20 Ultra and still keep the idea in reserve because the problems it’s having are intermittent and solvable. The shots people are getting on it simply can’t be gotten on other phone cameras available (with support) in the US.

I’ve seen enough reviews to know it is capable of beautifully detailed photos even at 30x zoom. 100x is currently a gimmick though. It should be purchased with a more realistic 30x in mind which is still absolutely amazing considering the competition is way below that.

The S20 I am getting, I am not sure what the reasonable expectations are for the zoom because there are so few reviews and samples. But I’m used to getting 2x optical zoom on my iPhones so anything above that is acceptable to my needs.

I honestly do have some FOMO, but I struggle with the in screen fingerprint sensor enough that I want to conserve expense this time, and maybe go all out when Samsung updates that personal sticking point.

I originally wasn’t going to get any S series phone at all and stick with my Note 10 Plus. Then I just kind of became enamored of the option to go smaller with a nicer camera or stay very large with an insane camera. So my two preorders reflected my indecisiveness between the two options for awhile.

I just can’t help it, I find Samsung phones almost impossible to resist even though a few of them have been real stinkers for me.

I've been a regular Samsung upgrader every year. This year I thought "Nope, no need to upgrade, happy with the S10+" and here I am having just placed my order for the S20 Ultra!
With the £400 trade in, £60 quidco and the Buds+ means it was about £580 to upgrade. Only downside being i've got a shipping date of the 27th March!

We'll believe you when you prove it in six weeks otherwise you are talking nonsense.

Easy, they will be on gumtree people upgrading contracts and selling for cash, I got a S7 edge and a Note 7 that way, i flipped the Note 7 on ebay before the recall happened.
Only problem with Samsung here they want to see original receipt for warranty if unlucky, apple don't.

You have to know what you are doing have bought 50 plus iPhones/ipads too with huge discounts off retail.

@bobsamm

Gumtree isn't retail though, it's people selling things that aren't potentially paid for, there's no aftersales support, it's more graigslist than retail.

That's not the same thing as a discount, it's a used goods market.

Post a link of a retail store selling non parallel imports for 30-40% discount, and then you're kind of on track.

And they said battery life was bad with 120hz..... Greesh....if that is bad then sign me for some of that lol

edit: I wonder how it would turnout with 60hz on the S20 uktra?

Well most reviewers have reported a 2-3 hour loss. So probably 9hrs and change.

That can be said for any phone. And with that discount you are also accepting the risk that you get a legitimate device, in the condition advertised, that hasn’t been repaired or have water damage. You also have no warranty should something go wrong.

You pay cash on inspection and can do the checks, never had 1 problem yet. Ebay is another subject though.
Samsung warranty is worth 0 to me, by the time it was sent away accessed sent back saying nothing wrong, fight them for a fix/replacement 4- 6 weeks later, i would of bought another phone anyway.
You can't get a replacement shipped overnight like Apple lol.

Doesn't work like that here, you can get a new phone on 2/3 year contract and walk out the door and sell it for cash, if you don't pay they chase you for the money not the phone.

Another reason they come up cheaper soon is : Samsung S20 50% off deal thru the Telstra or Optus EPP portal, employees sell on ebay/gumtree.

Also Samsung already now offers EDU discount.

For sure prices will drop quick.

South Korea S20 launch day sales figure: 70,800 units.

2019 Note 10 first day: 220,000 units.

2019 S10 fist day: 140,000 units.
