It is the typical Samsung phone. It is very fast and speedy. One UI is awesome! getting closer and closer to stock Android. The camera zoom is very very nice. See my zoom photos in the photos thread!

My 2 concerns are the slow shutter for moving objects and the overall size of this beast!
I might trade down and get the S20+
If your not panning with the moving object or it's not possible try pro mode highest iso and min 1/125 shutter, spot metering and so its always ready and toggle on to resume last setting

I assume the sports mode is still missing since S9's and 10's/20's are more like aperture priority on auto

Not sure if .2 inches would make a difference!!!

Looks like it’s having a hard time focusing. The reviews weren’t kidding about the really narrow field of focus..parts of the bee are in focus and parts aren't. That's pretty tight. The bokeh also seems inconsistent.

I realize these are a super small sample group so not qualifying the capabilities of the camera outright...just offering my $0.02 from my incredibly amateur photography perspective.

Yeah it seems they went a large apeture lens for better low light performance with the 108mp sensor but it has created such a narrow field of focus that it is detrimental in many cases, unfortunately this can't be fixed with a simple software update. In theory the large apeture should also help with fast moving objects as it can use a faster shutter speed but we shall see how that pans out.

I'm very curious for those who get the ultra what kind of shutter lag you see. The time it takes from pressing the on screen "Shutter button" to the time the pic is captured. This was not very good in an ultra my coworker was showing me yesterday.
My husband said his Ultra got the update this morning. I don’t notice any shutter lag in the pictures I’m currently taking.

He left me his phone to play with. So far I like taking landscape photos and zooming on my neighbor’s brick house. The iPhone just can’t get the details of the brick with the digital zoom past 2x that the Ultra can.

I am having a hard time with my cat. The white fur suffers from blown out highlights very much like iPhone 7 Plus and before used to do.

Other details of things inside the house look very nice, though.

I do still get more blurred shots than with my 11 Pro. I haven’t tried my Pixel out yet. I don’t know if the blob problem has been solved yet. We will have to wait for sundown to test that. I don’t know what my husband is going to say about so many photos of the same cat stored on his new phone
😬

My S20 hasn’t arrived yet.

Jeez it’s here just this minute. He didn’t make me sign for it. He THREW it on my front porch. 🤬

Are there any apps on android that you can use to send high quality videos and pictures?

I’m fed up of recording 4K videos and taking nice videos only to send them to my family via WhatsApp and they end up looking like trash.

You can send files uncompressed up to 100mb on WhatsApp.

Click the attachment icon and select document > browse other documents and select your file.

Does that mean I should save the photos and videos as a document rather then attaching from the photo gallery?

Just shoot your videos as normal, the only difference is the method you use for selecting the video to send.

Normally you would select the attachment and choose pic from the gallery, I think anything above 16mb is compressed using this method.

When you choose the document > browse other documents option at the top of the screen you can chose the videos tab to view only videos in your gallery, select the required video and it attaches the file in its original size uncompressed, providing its under 100mb.

Have a look and you'll see what I mean.

OK, got the Ultra earlier today and initial impressions...

Phone is massive but doesnt feel any heavier or harder to navigate one-handed than the Pro Max. Samsung have done a lot of things with One UI to make it easier to use larger phones one-handed and it shows. Much appreciated after spending the past months with the Pro Max.

Display is best I've seen. 120Hz is very noticeable and not something you will want to go back from. Not much else to say here.

One thing I forgot about Samsung's UI is that it still has a ridiculous amount of configuration. I wouldnt call it bloat, because a majority of it is helpful and nice to have. But it definitely takes longer to setup a Samsung device out of the box due to all the little fine tuning you can do. But I suppose in the long run thats a good thing.

I installed the March update but that doesnt include camera improvements. I haven't spent enough time with the camera yet to form any opinion. I shot a few indoor pics of my dog and they looked good. The natural bokeh is nice but there was some edge blur due to the shallow DOF. Still, the picture was sharp for the most part and colors looked good.

Only issue I've had so far is with Samsung Pay failing to register cards which I've never had an issue with in the past. But it could be my bank blocking it due to me switching phones and registering a lot of cards on different phones lately.

Well I guess it's somewhat positive that you didn't absolutely hate the camera right away.

I'm still setting up and settling in on the S20 Pink Unlocked. I am using the lower display setting and normal 60hz and it feels super smooth already and the display looks amazing just because this display has such a high ppi. I will likely keep it on this setting to maximize battery life. The size and weight of it even in a bulky case I'm using.

For those of you that switch between Android and Apple platforms, what password manager do you use to keep everything simple and up to date on both devices. Thanks

Honestly so far it's much better than I thought. Zoom pictures aren't just good, they destroy every other phone camera I've tried. Close up is where the camera struggles because that shallow DOF is exposed most there and the autofocus definitely hunts.

Since my little one got home I have snapped a few pictures of him. When he's been relatively still the pics have been excellent. When he's moving they've been blurry due to slow shutter speed. However when I took burst shots of him running around it was easy to find a crisp pic from the burst and delete the rest.

Have you tried the Single Take feature? If so, do you like it?

I use Enpass. It's pretty good. I have it loaded on iOS, Android, Windows 10, and MacOS. Syncs flawless. And you don't have to pay again for every platform.
