I'm the same, although I love, love, love my S23 Ultra, I am planning my next phone.
For sure! My thought is that eventually, I probably want to move back to iOS long term, but I really want to see Apple work on fixing iOS and making it user friendly again. Right now, it takes less clicks to get where I need to go on Android, and it used to be the opposite. But overall, I think I do still prefer Apple's services more now that I've been on Android for almost 2 months. But the S23 Ultra is so freaking good that it's really tough to make a conscious effort to go back to the iPhone at this point. It is really nice not being tied to an ecosystem anymore so that's not pulling me back in anyway.

I never keep my phones more than a year so I use and abuse haha. But yeah, usually by the time if gets to 50% I throw it on the charger and bring it back to 100%. Anything under 50% and I have battery anxiety no matter what phone I'm using.
I'm the same, although I love, love, love my S23 Ultra, I am planning my next phone.

I think we are all the same. 😂 Lol. But still I try to think of the next person who will get my phone when I sell it.

I like to give them something that they will enjoy and will last them a long time.

However I am probably going to keep the Ultra for at least a year. We will see what the s24 ultra is and what deals are out during pre order next year. If I can pull another deal like I did this year with $100 out of pocket and a slightly higher monthly bill on my cellphone for only four months then I might upgrade but I have to say I really like this phone. It is the best Android phone I have ever had no doubt.

Of course one phone I am looking to upgrade this year will be the Pixel 8 Pro. I have a hundred dollars Google store credit and if the pre order trade in value is good for my P7P I will upgrade that phone for sure.

I may be sticking to the s23/24 ultra and Pixel series for a while now. Pretty nice combination and it is fun to alternate between the two. And I always have a backup phone if I ever have a problem with either.

I feel the same way. I am a bit torn because I do like iOS and iPhone can be a solid choice. I am going to wait and see what they do with the new SE. I may just get that to have an iPhone if it is not too crippled. I don't think I can stomach the iPhone 15/16 ultra price and that is probably the phone I will want if it comes out although I really hate the non pro/pro delineated product line and now the idea of it being even more so.

Apple will probably sell a lot of the ultra type phone if it comes out because generally iPhone users or Apple users have more money and tend to want the best Apple has to offer. For some they keep their phones a long time so it makes sense. But the problem I have is deals like I can find on Samsung and Pixel are much harder to find on the best iPhones. At least for the next couple of years I am probably going to stick with Samsung/Google for a while.

I am happy to not feeling like I can't move away from Apple phones because of some loss. Sure there are compromises to be made but I like to make decisions based on what I think is the best overall device for my money. Some of the serious issues like only two years of OS upgrades are no longer a problem in Android and although I would like to see 5 years of OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches what we have now is at least good enough.

Totally get it. One of the toughest things to get used to that I still struggle with is having 2 apps for photos. I prefer Google Photos but sometimes I need to use the Gallery app for something, which annoys the living hell out of me. Not a deal breaker but an annoyance for sure.
That bugs me too, it's the one thing i don't like about Samsung phones, i love The Samsung Browser but other then that i wish Samsung would stick to the Google Apps.

At least you can either uninstall, disable or put them to sleep or deep sleep. There are maybe a very few that don't fit into any of these categories.

If you are technically minded you can use an adb debloating tool from xda forums and disable any app you want.

Several years ago you really couldn't do any of these things. If you reset the phone when you first set it up you can also have the option to install or not install a bunch of pre installed apps.

I do wish you could be offered a choice during setup to install or not all Samsung and 3rd party apps but at least you can get some degree of debloat without rooting the phone.

Pixel is still the best in the bloat arena but there are a bunch of Google apps I never use that I can't uninstall or disable too. It would be nice to have all the configuration and settings of OneUi and all of the features and minimal build of Pixel OS in a Samsung device.

My plan is to stick with my 14 Pro Max and skip 15 and even 15 Ultra. It's been a LOT of years since I got an iPhone that doesn't have any hardware issues. I know we talk about how iphone quality is on such a high level. Well I'm not saying I had quality control issues exactly.

But even with the phones I had that I liked there was always something driving me to upgrade. My iphone 7 Plus was never right after the first major iOS update and ran hot and was buggy. My lovely green iphone 11 Pro would very frequently just suddenly start heating up to painful levels like it was going to burn up. My main reason to upgrade though, was to get good call quality and better connectivity. My iphones were poor in that regard compared to my Android phones.

My 14 Pro Max is the most compatible with me and it's flawless in terms of hardware quality and I like it. The connectivity is adequate. (It's also adequate on my SE3, 12 mini and iphone 11, which are all also keepers). So I'm simply not willing to put myself through another test run on a new phone and new display just for some design changes I'm frankly not interested in nor updates I don't see myself needing, given my satisfaction with what is right here and paid for! Also 1 TB of storage. Woohoo!

Yes the periscope lens rumors sound interesting, but I already have that on my S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra for that matter. I don't want to buy a whole new iphone for that feature. Also... purple! I love this color and am not even close to tired of it. I actually hug this phone.

My S23 Ultra is also making such a favorable impression on me. After the crushing disappointment of the display on the one I returned (or tried to and no my husband hasn't resolved that yet, yes our lives are that... overburdened...right now). Anyway after that disappointment, I really lucked out with this one I'm typing on now.

I'm still setting it up. I have it set up in working order but I haven't finalized the look and customization yet. But I've got it working as a big part of my day. I actually do take both of my big phones along with me a lot now. I love this pink color and the pink aluminum sides. It's so pretty. I have different cases for it but usually use my clear one. I am optimistic that I'll keep this one 2 years, too. Heck it looks like I'll be keeping the S21 Ultra, another year, too.

I wish I could play with my Pixel 6 Pro. If it weren't for my having a hard time looking at the display, I would use it a lot more around the home on wifi and switch my sim into it on occasion. If I upgrade it, it would be to try and get one I can use again. But it's not a priority. It's just something fun I'm thinking of doing.

At the end of the day it's preference ...you gave it a good try and One UI is not for everyone I understand that ...me personally I use all the Google apps and only use Samsung for notes Spen stuff ...I keep it simple and I feel this phone runs smoother than my Pixel 7 Pro but I do love the Pixel too haha
I've put mine up for sale but I still get the urges to keep it ..we shall see...
Btw that V60 is getting the last update I believe so glad ya not going that way hehe ...

Wait you put up your 7 pro for sale? What color and storage size? LOL I may be interested.

I found that my iPhone 14 Pro just worked fabulously well, as had my 13 pro Max before it. My Galaxy S23 ultra also works fabulously well, but and this is a big but, it is also just so much fun.

Reading that back seems so strange, how on earth can a phone be fun? well, just the simple things such as putting the apps on the home page exactly where I want and can reach them and removing the names to make the screen look clean, the side bar, just being in the right place to reveal further, almost secret apps, the finger print under glass sensor that works wonderfully (for me), the "back button," (If you have only ever had iPhones, you have no idea about a back button). Tapping on the Google microphone and then tapping search for a song, it's just instant, I have tried to fool it with covers but it gets it right every time, just brilliant. These are such small things, and there are more I could mention.

It's a long time since I have had a Samsung phone, I remember then how good I thought they were, but now? This just takes it to another level. So much so, that I sold my iPhone and Apple Watches that I loved, but have no regrets.

I also had many Pixel phones and am strangely drawn back to them as well, I have promised myself a Z fold 5 but could be swayed to a Pixel fold.

I won't be changing my Mac book Air or iPads, I just think they are so good and can mix and match ecosystems quite easily to be able to enjoy both.

Oh, and the screen, just gorgeous.

The way you feel about your 14 Pro Max I felt about my 13 Pro Max. If I would have been able to get it unlocked I would still have it. I probably wouldn't have gotten the Pixel 7 Pro. There really wasn't anything I didn't like other than as you said the reception could have been better and the camera system felt average for an expensive phone but otherwise it was pretty close to perfect.

I do love the purple color on the new iPhones and I am so jealous I can't have a phone with such a cool color. If I could have afforded buying directly from Samsung I would have gotten the lime or blue or maybe even the grey but the lavender is really nice looking too. I ended up with the green s23 ultra and while I don't dislike it, I am not as enamored with it as I would have been with one of the other colors.

However having to leave iOS completely over the past few months has been eye opening.

Android has really made improvements in the key areas I had problems with which originally drove me to iPhone. Again I think it really makes a difference the kind of user you are. Do you care about internals, specs, configuration of your device and the OS or do you just want something that works with as little input from you as possible and works seamlessly with other Apple devices? If you are the second user an iPhone will always be better no matter the specs or new features.

I am someone who actually reads about what kind of internal storage is used and how fast it is, what nm process a CPU is on and what type and how many cores it has and every component of a device I scrutinize and read about so if I feel I am paying a premium I expect everything to be cutting edge and a premium design, fit and finish and probably the most important is stability and as many features that actually work and make difference in my use case as possible.

I still think Apple makes a slightly more secure phone simply because it is in control to a larger externt of the supply chain but things have changed and I am not as confident as I used to be specially with what I have read about Foxconn in China. And even Apple use some components that are outsourced.

I also used to think that privacy was better on Apple than Android and I still do but I don't think it is as simple as everyone makes it out to be. People get upset with Google because they say they track everything you do but how do we know Apple doesn't do the exact same thing? We can't know with 100% certainty because iOS is a proprietary software. So they could be using our data in ways we don't authorize and would have no idea. While Google is completely open about what they do with our data and software engineers can verify what Google says by auditing the open source software of Android.

If you have a Pixel you are pretty much as secure as an iPhone and Samsung is close but still not as good since you have a secondary app store which is a security vulnerability by default. But, like Apple, Samsung has a vested monetary interest to keep things secure or lose customer faith. So again I think the whole iPhone is more secure is not as simple or true as often regurgitated by so many people.

And privacy is a joke on any internet connected device - period. Sure you can harden and have layers of security but ultimately if someone dedicated, funded, and educated enough can break into any system and snoop or spy or worse.

So then it comes down to hardware and software. Which is best? I think it is hard to argue that at this moment in time that iPhone has better hardware and software on the current 14 line up. In some ways like that purple the iPhone is superior and in other ways like connectivity and feature set s23ultra is better. Android at this moment feels more feature rich and stable than iOS. BUT iOS has an advantage in interconnectivity of other Apple devices BUT Samsung has gone a long way to minimize that advantage offering a very similar and in some way superior interconnectivity between Windows PCS and Samsung tablets and Samsung and Pixel watches.

BUT Apple has the money and persistence to turn this all around again and become the better choice. They can improve their hardware and software to a point where they are again on top. It will always be a seesaw between Samsung, Pixel and Apple with one camp being slightly better than the other.

I also happen to like Linux and open source software in general and the idea behind it. Unfortunately when stuff is free it is not as valued and sometimes not as good but the fact that it is still a viable option against seriously monied competition is pretty cool. Google started out trying to be a good influence in the world or at least that was their marketing spin. Things have changed a bit but hopefully they will return to that idea once again. Apple and Microsoft have always been about profits but at least when Jobs ran things he truly tried to be innovative and deliver a consistent first class experience. He didn't have a ton of slightly different devices in a product category but tried to simplify the choices and user experience but do so while delivering a superior and more expensive product. Hopefully Apple will return to a more Jobs oriented approach over the recent influence of Tim Apple.

Competition is good though because it pushes Apple and Android to be better constantly.

Curious if anyone has owned the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. I'm thinking about picking one up. Mostly just to track my steps and my runs as I decided to start running, lol.

And is wifi just fine? I don't have any interest in leaving my phone at home when I run. And I don't think I really every used lte on my Apple Watch when I had it.

Don’t have the Watch 5 Pro, but do have the Watch 4 Classic… have owned since launched (Aug 2021).

It works perfectly fine for tracking steps and runs, which I normally do when it comes down to walking the dog or getting some exercise in.

When I go outside to work on the yard.. my phone tends to be far away from me, wifi connects and I can stream music off YT Music.

The problem with the Galaxy Watch platform or any Android watch is 3rd party app support, so if you rely on apps that are on the Apple Watch (and not on the Android Watches)... then you’ll most likely be disappointed by the Galaxy Watch.

Thanks! Yeah even I had the Apple Watch, I didn't really go crazy using apps on the Watch. More used it to track fitness and get notifications. Probably won't enable most notifications either because I'm just generally sick of being bothered by notifications. I do like that it looks more like a real watch and not the square look!

Yeah, that’s what fascinated me the most about the Galaxy Watch is the circular shape of it. And in addition to that, there’s so many Watch Faces to choose from.

I tend to allow most of my notifications.. but I keep my watch in vibrate mode.

Nice! I'll probably just use it for Calls/Text notifications and let all of my other notifications filter through the phone. My fiance made a great point that she was really getting sick of watching movies on the couch with my arm around her and watch buzzing ever 5 seconds. Don't blame her lol

That’s my husband! Buzz beep beep boop all the time.

I know he’s a busy businessman but he lets almost all of his apps send him notifications. So it’s not just work. There are endless sports notifications and news and it goes on and on. I’m able to tune it out as long as I’m not having to borrow his phone for something like inputting my selections for online food ordering.

I wonder if that doesn’t contribute to his overall irritability. As you all know I have that issue with my Samsung phone return being stolen. I should have just handled it myself. I can’t even ask about it now without getting a bit of attitude as if I’m a hen pecking nag. Same if I ask where we are at with all the paperwork that needs to be submitted for colleges and high school forms. I’ve had a word with him about this and he’s trying to be more considerate. He’s a very considerate person.

But I could understand someone acting beleaguered by questions if their watch and phone are bombarding them with information literally nonstop from the moment of waking until bedtime.

The kids who are active getting texts and social media notifications are becoming the same way. I will ask a question and get a snippy answer as if I automatically should already know the answers. A lot of the time it’s because everyone has mistakenly thought they sent me a text or email. Or everyone these days seems to carry around this mistaken sense that I’m magically plugged into some font of always flowing information. But I am not on my family’s social media. No kid wants their mother following them on Instagram! I’m also not on my husband’s work Slack channel or whatever it is. I’m occasionally on Twitter and on this forum at least once a day. I read but rarely post on Android Central. I’m occasionally on a couple of support forums for my health issues. That’s it.

Otherwise, I’m in my kitchen at least a few hours every night. My family can tell me things in passing and it takes only a second. I promise I’m not holding anyone under a bright light and conducting interrogations! 🤪

Sigh. But I absolutely do not judge my family for the current state of communications. It was my family who urged me to quit Facebook because I was acting like this once upon a time to them, myself. Being addicted to notifications is insidious.

I keep turning them off as they somehow pop up whenever I buy something. Samsung is annoying that way. I play whack a mole with their marketing. Best Buy is a bit that way, too. Pretty much any merchandising app gets overly excited when I buy something from them. 🤣🙄

Yep! I just mute my phone from 8pm on. Occasionally, I'll check my phone to make sure nothing major happened, but otherwise, that's time to unwind and enjoy family. I supposed I could actually use Bixby routines and set a focus mode too, lol.

I've had the Watch5 Pro since last summer. I like it, but would've probably gone with the regular watch5 if it was to do over again. The pro is so bulky and tall, I don't think it looks that great. The battery life is amazing at 2-3 days, but WearOS is kind of disappointing in comparison to watchOS. It works fine for notifications and media controls but overall feels somewhat laggy and less fluid.

yep I got the GW 5 to try it with my whole move to android and it was fine but battery was a bit naff so I returned it and got the 5 pro.

Now the 5pro is, for me, a different beast. Battery is so good I can forget about it.

I've had every apple watch from day 1 and thought I'd hate the gw5 but I love it! works a treat and if anything, I prefer the look of the watch faces and the choice (some of the reddit groups have AMAZING watch faces for it).

It should be said that I have never installed any fancy apps on my apple watch so perhaps that's why it was so easy for me to swap. I use it for notifications, weather and if I'm walking it'll tell me how far I've gone, how close my heart is to exploding and that's all I've needed :)

So yeah I guess I'm an easy customer but the gw5 pro is brilliant for me (I think some rumour mentioned they'd be adding rotating bezel back in for the next ver... that could be good)

It should be said that I have never installed any fancy apps on my apple watch so perhaps that's why it was so easy for me to swap. I use it for notifications, weather and if I'm walking it'll tell me how far I've gone, how close my heart is to exploding and that's all I've needed :)

So yeah I guess I'm an easy customer but the gw5 pro is brilliant for me (I think some rumour mentioned they'd be adding rotating bezel back in for the next ver... that could be good)
Sweet! Based on all of the comments, I just ordered one. I'm like you where I didn't really use a lot of apps on the AW so I think I'll adjust just fine!

I found that my iPhone 14 Pro just worked fabulously well, as had my 13 pro Max before it. My Galaxy S23 ultra also works fabulously well, but and this is a big but, it is also just so much fun.

definitely agree! It's fun again :)

Tapping on the Google microphone and then tapping search for a song, it's just instant, I have tried to fool it with covers but it gets it right every time, just brilliant.

hmmm what's that one? how do I do that pls? I'm forever hunting for shazam...

Tap the microphone on the Google search bar. It opens up with a"search for music" I found it by accident, but it really works well.
