So I charged up my s23 ultra last night and this morning lost about 11-12% of battery life. The AOD does consume a decent amount of battery.

I do have an animated GIF but the brightness is set to adaptive. Not a huge deal. I could use a different AOD to save some power but I really like my Godzilla GIF. 😂 Lol

Roughly. I think that is a little high. I may have to try again and see. Generally I charge when I need to and this is the first time I charged it fully right before I went to sleep. I might have used it for a very small amount so maybe a percent or two?

What kind of AOD do you use? I think the animated Gif is to blame. I will test again with a regular AOD screen and my animated one and see if there is a difference. I will also clear any background apps.

I wouldn't mind if it was around 5% or less but 11% is too much. Anyway even with heavy gaming, streaming, web browsing I have yet to kill the phone in a long day.

Since the screen is more useful with the squared corners I tend to use it more than my other phones in the past when I would switch to a tablet. I mean I still do eventually but I stay longer on this phone. I also really like the sound. It actually has a good stereo profile,a little bit of bass and decent volume.

I'm using just the regular clock on my AOD I was using a GIF on the flip phone but haven't tried it yet on this one... As long as you get in through the day that's really the most important thing and you're using the phone.. I took mine off the charger this morning early I'm at 52% right now and about ready to go to bed in a half hour or so lol... I used the phone a good amount during the day today a lot of browsing.. Android Auto for a bit by my travels and at the gym had the music going.. few videos and email check and stuff like that so morning enough for me..

I am hoping someone can help. I updated today the new Samsung April update and I can no longer boot to recovery mode to clear cache. 5 minutes before updating I booted to recovery mode no problems. After I updated I tried a few times but instead of landing at the recovery page I am landing on a page to install a custom rom. Very strange.
In case it matters I am based in Ireland and my S23 ultra is unlocked. Is anyone else facing this issue?

Popped up as an update when I checked under settings on the phone. I resolved the issue by pressing the power button and volume down buttons at the same time. When the power off button showed up I powered it off. From here I did my normal routine to access recovery mode and it worked. Also now if I power it off normally and try to access recovery mode it is working again. All in all very strange but at least working. Thanks for replying to my post. Much appreciated!

That sounds very suspicious. I know different regions get updates at different times but I honestly don't think that the April update is available. Hasn't been one on mine plus my Pixel 7 Pro doesn't have an April update yet.

Getting a menu to install a custom ROM in recovery is not standard or normal behavior. Samsung would never include it in the recovery menu. They lock everything down as tight as possible with Knox.

Did you ever root the phone or install a custom recovery? Did you ever install a custom ROM?

I am pretty sure looking at XDA forums for the s23 ultra there aren't many of any that I am aware of?

Where did you get your device? Did you buy direct from Samsung? Did you get it from a major third party retailer or did you get it off eBay, or some other type of sale?

If you didn't get the phone through an official source and never modified the phone yourself then I am worried someone else may have installed a hacked version of oneUI 5. It could have a back door or trojan installed. I would contact Samsung support and see what can be done.

I have used tons of Android phones over the years, some off brand Chinese phones, and many Samsung, Motorola, and others and I have never, ever seen any option in the recovery menu to install a custom ROM. Can you explain that a bit more?

There is a section in settings under update software that says, "Last Update" and there should be a description of the update, a version number, and security patch level with a date. There should also be a link to Samsung official page. Check that and see what it says.

Thanks for the reply. Like yourself I have had a lot of off brand chinese phones. Never had this issue before. Got my phone in February from a major third party retailer. Since I got it I was going to the recovery mode after every charge which is every 2 to 3 days. I then got my first ota update and after updating entered recovery mode to clear cache with no problem. Today 5 minutes before I updated with my second ota update (the update hit today in Europe) I cleared my cache in recovery mode. After updating it I could no longer access recovery mode. However by turning the phone off with the one extra step of pressing the volume down and power button at the same time I can access recovery mode again. Don't know why this happened but only happened after installing the latest update. I never rooted this phone or installed a custom rom.

Checked the update under settings as normal procedure. Everything there as you described when I checked. The date of the security patch is April 1st. Many other people in Europe have posted in Reddit saying they also got the update as well. I am hoping everything is fine on my phone. Since being able to access recovery mode with the extra step of powering it off using the volume down key I have cleared the cache and repaired apps. Before this update I would just power it off without press volume down and was always able to access the recovery mode. When this happened today I found the article below and thought I would try the new way of powering off (I didn't think it would work) but it did lol

Proper procedure for recovery is power button and volume up. Hold both until flash screen. Then just power up.

But you said in the recovery menu that you saw an option to install a custom rom?? That is what I was most concerned about. If you never saw such an option then most likely everything is fine since you were using volume down and power which puts you into SAFE mode.

As long as you don't see a custom rom option most likely everything is fine and you got the proper update.

Here in Europe to get to the recovery mode you need to power off the device, then connect it to a pc or usb hub. Once you do that you need to press power and volume up until the samsung logo appers and then release both bottons and it will go to the recovery mode menu. This worked on this phone till I updated the latest ota today. When I did that same procedure after the update instead of going to the recovery menu it went to a page saying something about installing a custom rom and gave me one option of pressing volume down to exit and restart the phone which I did. I tried accessing the recovery mode menu a few more times with the same result. Finally if I first powered down the phone pressing power and volume down once the power off button appears on screen and I powered off the phone then do the procedure to access recovery mode menu it worked

I just figured out it was taking me to download mode instead of recovery mode which is still strange but at least I know what it was
