I do think we will see updates for probably another week at least. Pixel phones don't have any updates either. I know Samsung is much better and faster at delivering updates than in the past but generally they are behind Pixels by at least a few days.

American market doesn't seem to get updates as fast as other parts of the world.

They will get to our devices soon I am pretty sure.

This Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a battery beast! Once it calmed down and updated 3 times, I've been getting similar battery as I did with the Apple Watch Ultra. Never thought that would be possible!
Oh that’s awesome. Which one is bigger looking? The Watch 5 Pro or the Apple Watch Ultra?

I’m really excited. My husband’s employer opened up through the corporate health plan this program I can enroll in to get 2-3 times a week special exercise program for people with inflammatory diseases. When I do conventional exercises, sometimes it triggers an inflammatory response and I have to take a break. Of course this completely undoes my modest gains.

I CAN exercise though. I just need to learn which ones are safe for me. So I’m going to enroll. I don’t know how I’m going to find the time but I’m determined to try. I want to stay fit. I am still decently fit despite everything, but I can feel I’ve lost ground especially after Covid and that other virus I had.

I was thinking of going to a larger Apple Watch because I have so much trouble typing and swiping messages on the small one. And the battery runs out so fast. It gets me through the day so long as I’m not trying to actually actively track fitness.

I would keep the little one for dressing up. But get either an Ultra or larger Series 8 for daily life and exercise.

In the summer I am in the pool and the ocean a lot. I tried the Ultra once. It was really big on me but possible. It appeals to me because I would feel I could keep it on in the ocean. I hate not having a watch or any connectivity out there.

I’m not really considering the Watch 5 Pro because of my need for iMessages on the watch. But I am curious about the size of it.

The sale Amazon is running on Ultras has got me to thinking about my options for a watch with a better battery.

At one time I’d dearly wanted an Apple Watch Hermes. But that’s a huge chunk of change for a watch I can’t wear to do the rugged things I like to get myself into.

I have both - apple watch ultra and galaxy watch 5 pro. Battery wise the galaxy works longer with oxigen measurement during night etc (1-2 workouts per day, notifications of mail, etc almost 4 days with single charge). Apple watch ultra 2.5 days with the same usage.
Size way I feel on hand more the apple watch due the shape than galaxy watch.
If speak about the readability, then apple is better but GW not far behind. I never get the automatic workout detection working on AW but no issues with GW. Everything depend of the main phone what you are using!

The ultra is nice. I am not a Apple watch type of guy but the overall design is great and I like the use of Titanium. It will make the watch a lot more comfortable.

I think the Galaxy 5 watch pro is also really nice but the 6 should be out soon.

The problem I have with the Apple watch if I were to get one is it is still using an old dual core processor that is at least two and maybe 3 generations old now. I feel like Apple will probably update the processor soon and I would be upset buying a new Apple watch and the next year it has a better processor.

That all being said the Ultra is expensive but I feel it is reasonable for the design and materials used. Some of the extra features are also really nice like the trail markers and guidance. Could be really useful.

Compared to the Galaxy watch Pro the extra features on the Apple watch ultra would push me to that choice if I had an iPhone.

The Hermes Apple watches are just crazy expensive and it is not functionally any better and probably hard to resale. A hard no for me.

I think you should get the Apple watch Ultra for your iPhone 14 pro max and the Galaxy watch 5 pro for your s23u! Still cheaper than the Hermes and you would have both.

Then you could tell us the difference between them and what you like and don't on both!

Thank you. My 14 Pro Max is my main phone. I’m starting to put some thought into changing that. I’ve got a lot to think about. Fortunately I’m not rushing into anything. My current watch will get the job done for now. Not great. But it’s workable. Still, I want to start researching.

My current Apple Watch bands are getting old looking. I’ve stopped buying new ones for over a year now while I try to decide what my next watch should be.

Yeah the Apple Watch Ultra is obviously still a bit better as a standalone watch. Though I will say it is nice having a circular watch for a change. We went out to a fancy restaurant on Saturday night, and I changed my watch face to a more luxurious look and one of my friends didn't even realize that it was a smartwatch.

Lol I wish I could get both! No, I’d get one. I wasn’t sure about when I would do this. I was always waiting for blood sugar level testing to upgrade next, but it sounds like that’s still a long ways away.

I can, however, wait to see what Apple and Samsung release next. Any processor efficiency gains might be nice to have.

I do tend to wear my watches for at least 2 years. Those aren’t things I upgrade annually. Tablets, computers, watches…usually are kept to the point they’re not really viable.

Hermes is beautiful but I probably won’t get another stainless steel Watch. They’re heavy and sit awkwardly lower on my wrist. Closer to my hand. So when I wash my hands soap gets on them. It’s nasty.

I’ve had great luck so far with the weight and durability of aluminum Apple Watches.

I don’t know how the Samsung watches will fare in terms of comfort. I’d be taking a look in person if possible before buying anything.

The irony is the larger watches fit me now because I’m fatter. If I’m able to get back into a sustainable exercise program and get back to the build I had just five years ago, I’ll be tiny again and the watches won’t fit me! 🤣

However, that’s not a likely outcome anymore, at my age. And I don’t really want to be thinner. I want to be stronger. I need to convert fat to muscle. I’ve got a lot of physical labor I need to be doing but currently have zero stamina for it. I’m out of shape. I’m not going for She-Hulk. When I’m fit, I look normal, but there’s less useless weight on my joints to cause me pain and more muscle strength to bolster the joints.

I worked out with weights from my teens to my late 20’s so the foundation is still there. It’s amazing how dedicated work in your teens and twenties can benefit you for life. My dad said this was the case for him with running track. Even as a heavy smoker, when he quit, he rebounded to pretty good lung recovery.

Where I am having problems is my joints. That’s why I’m so excited to learn there is an exercise program that specifically addresses this issue. Please Lord just let me have the time for it.

The S23 Ultra has got me thinking a lot about finally being able to make it my main phone. It’s really there. I could still use Apple services because I’m not getting rid of my iPhone. It would just be secondary and have my secondary number.

It’s all a lot to think about.

Add 10x zoom to the list of "must haves" moving forward. I was at an NBA game last night, modest tickets, like 30 rows up. The shots I got of Giannis were fantastic! Even got a couple 30x zoom ones that came out decent!

Nope!!! You can't get any with this post, without posting the pics. Don't do us like that. :p

Best Buy has a sale on the unlocked S23 Ultras for $200 off, so you can get the 256 variant for $999.

I am so tempted. But I get like this every year and get dazzled by the new Sammies. Every single time I get an Android for just a change of pace, After a month or two I go right back to my iPhone.

I know this is going to trigger some people, but to me, getting an Android is just a play toy for awhile, but when I need to get back down to business, I still have to get out my iPhone. But that's just me.

Still though, I do need a new toy to play with, and that $200 is enticing. :)

It’s all a lot to think about.

Have you ever considered Hatha Yoga or Kundalini Yoga?

Yoga exercises your joints, increases flexibility and builds stamina. It also increases muscle. It helps with relaxation as well. No impact and gentle.

It might be really beneficial. You can try some of the exercises online at home and see what you think. There are tons of videos as well and you can do it at home on your own time.

Of course you can take classes in a studio as well.

Since Google Fi won't let me switch my sim card in another phone I am stuck using my S23U as my main phone for another 80 days. Then I can do whatever I want.

Even despite some incompatibility with the Apple ecosystem I have zero regrets and since I have an iPad I can still use Facetime for family when I need to.

As for the watch and tablets and computers I am more on a two to three year cycle as well depending on the device. Sometimes I will upgrade within a year but only if there is a major CPU upgrade, big design changes with extra features or something like that.

Good luck whatever you decide as far as the watch goes.

Use your phone as you like. Toy or business. If you buy it you get to choose how and why you use it.

I think the thing is that Android and Samsung have evolved a lot over the years and they are as capable of more capable than iOS or an iPhone. Some people who owns only Apple devices seem to have a common attitude that only Apple makes good products and if you get a cheap Android phone or a cheap Android tablet or a cheap Windows computer I can understand it. Or if you get one of the alternative to Apple devices and don't really fully immerse yourself in it and only have superficial knowledge of what it can do then likewise the idea that it is a joke or toy or whatever else makes sense.

I would wait until the summer time. Generally this is a mid point in the release and Samsung generally will discount the phones and tablets pretty heavily. I think it would be better to get the 512gb variant. 8gb of ram is fine but 12 is great. The extra storage and ram are worth a little more.

I think the reason why you go back to your Apple devices is not because Android phones are toys but because it is hard to leave the Apple ecosystem. That is why most people don't change or if they do, come running back to Apple.

The s23 ultra is one of the best phones on the market. I think you might stick with it for a while.

Good luck whatever you do.

In the past I would have been right there with you. Hell, I would already be back on my iPhone. But things have changed. iOS is no longer the stable "It Just Works" software anymore. It's bloated, inconsistent, no longer intuitive, and full of bugs. The stock weather app doesn't even work as of today! Android on the other hand, well at least in my experience with the S23 Ultra, has become more stable than iOS. Sure there are some apps that I can tell maybe get the benefit of the simplicity of development that Apple has, but I haven't experienced one app on the S23 that hasn't been fully functional, which again, is a change in the positive direction because in the past, I'd have major issues.

@Technerd108

I was wondering how big of a different the 12 gig ram really makes over 8 gig. For the storage, I barely ever use much storage. I am not much of a picture taker, and hardly ever take videos. So paying $200 more just for 4 gigs of ram I am not so sure of. Even out of the 256 gig storage model, I would use less that a third of it, and that would include apps.

@mjschabow

I don't feel the iPhone is bloated, that crown would go to Samsung. :). As for bugs, I don't really ever notice any.

For the weather, I stopped using the stock weather app when Apple stopped sourcing their data from The Weather Channel. Their current provider is hardly ever correct. I use the Weather Channel widget on my widget screen to get a correct weather update.

Another bummer would be that if I would get the S23 Ultra and decide to keep it, then I would have to invest in a new smartwatch. I always have my Apple Watch on when I leave the house. I mainly just use it for notifications and using Apple Pay. I know a Google watch would do that also, but the fact that I would have to buy one is a bummer.

Oh, and one more thing. 95% of everyone I know has an iPhone, so losing iMessage is a really big deal to me. Plus I have an iMac and an iPad.

I dunno, I guess I get bored with stuff and want to try something new, that is why the new Sammies always dazzle me.
