I think I might just wait till the Pixel 8 line is officially revealed before making a decision

Because being on T-Mobile there aren't any killer deals for the S23 Ultra. It's still full price. So I'll pass.

Looked on my T-Mobile account, I have upgrades on all lines, as all our phones are unlocked paid off. And not sure what deals they have, it's confusing . One states $16 a month for 24 months. But then I logged into my account and check the S23 Ultra with T-Mobile and it states $50 a month. So WTF?

And trade-ins suck for my Pixel 7 Pro everyone only offering like $300 - $350 trade-in, where's as a S23 Ultra or 14 Pro Max gets $800 trade-in value. Double ugh.

4 months out is almost half a life cycle and these things don't move on much year on year. The iPhone 15 is hardly a great leap over the 14 and I doubt that the S24 will slay the S23 either.

I dunno. We can all wait for the next greatest but the fact remains that the S23U is an awesome phone and awesome phones definitely don't come along every year...

I'm waiting for the Fold 6 and the S25U before moving my S23U along. Nothing will really better it before those phones come to market.

You certainly have a point.

The Snapdragon 8 gen 1 was such a let down for Qualcomm they had to make a splash with the 8 gen 2 which they did. I doubt the 8 gen 3 will be as significantly different from the 8 gen 2. Of course 8 gen 3 will be faster but I think it is a refinement of the 8 gen 2. The 8 gen 4 will probably be a bigger deal.

We also got ram and storage speed upgrades. Ufs 4.0 from 3.1, ram ddr5x from ddr5. I doubt that the storage speed or efficiency will change. We might see faster ram though but most likely we will see 12gb ram standard on s24 series and 16g standard on the ultra. So Instead of faster ram we might just get more of it.

Either way there will be some decent upgrades on the s24u but unless I find a really good deal like last year I will probably stick with the s23.

Interesting change will be the FLAT screen and titanium frame, which will really change the look of the phone, in a radically different way. Probably look like an industrial looking future iPhone hybrid.

Doesn't Google Drive backup backup stuff like that? When you say documents what exactly do you mean? What app did you make the documents in?

Google Drive does it only when I myself put it there
When I open Documents app on 23U I got for example my downloaded pdf books, movies and so on. It is all saved locally so if I lose my phone I lose the data. On icloud all of this is uploaded automatically, I want something similar on Ultra too

There is a way to back up your device to Google drive. The backup takes up about 5GB in space.
But it sounds like you want to sync data from your device to G drive. I think this has to be a manual process.

How to back up to Google Drive
Back up the memory on your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Android 13 to Google One
Go to settings...search for backup

  1. Find "Backup" Press Backup. ...
  2. Turn on automatic Google One backup. Press Turn on. ...
  3. Turn automatic back up using mobile network on or off. ...
  4. Back up phone memory to Google One. ...
  5. Return to the home screen.

Can you still pay for the Microsoft one drive storage space for backups ?

Yes it seems like I have to backup documents manually. Will use Drive then

My friend, you need this: OneSync

It allows you to sync local folders to Onedrive so you can keep all your data on your local storage but relax in it all being available on the cloud. All the unlocks for more than one folder syncing are one-time IAP rather than needing a sub And its maybe $8 for the lot.

I use it for all sorts such as keeping cloud copies of my MP3 files and storage of plain text notes.

So far it's running really smooth over here. Probably ready for a release. Not that these new updates are usually exciting anymore, but I do really appreciate the white notification bar icons and the new layout.

Have they added any new features to One UI 6, or is it bug fixes and making animations smoother?

Not really. The one that I was really hoping for was improved icon theming. I thought it was coming to Android 14 where all icons (whether or not the developer was on board) would theme if you changed them within the color palette settings, but I guess not.

So all in all, pretty boring update other than the notification panel.

I think he's talking about the fact that iOS used to be intuitive. My argument back in the day that was Pro iOS was that you could simply do everything in less clicks than Android. But then some pretty questionable decisions took place, the biggest gripe being the app library. To me the app library represents everything wrong with iOS right now. It's a clunky mess, the folder assignments don't make sense. Like how is Reddit not a Social app but instead an Informational/Reading app? So now I have a Social folder but the social app I use quite a bit is not in the folder, and I can't even correct Apple in their assignment. Or how about the ability to have the A-Z list as default? It's so bad and I cannot believe that it's been there for 3 years with zero OS updates to make it better.

Now, that whole Thumb to Pointer finger on the new WatchOS. Nice! That's a real life feature that will help. More of that and less of the clunky mess iOS has come to be, please.

While I agree on the pro thing about iOS is ease of use and navigation for the layman-end user, and pretty much still today. Most apps have the bulk of their settings within iOS settings. 1 root place to adjust things but its nothing like settings on AndroidOS.

Funny we're in disagreement of the iOS App Library:
I absolutely LOVE it!
- I like the OS categorizing the apps, this coming from someone that had an annoying and difficult time doing the categorizing himself (and returning to S23 STILL does). I loathed the floading of apps all across home screens, on S23 its WORSE than it ever was on iOS because I have screens that are half empty yet icons flood across other new home screens which is annoying. EVEN if I can move multiple at once (never found out how to do that on iOS prior to iOS 16/17 to be fair).

Reddit ... that's not a social app nor an information reading app. There is a LOT of endless garbage posted on there. Its an overly hyped Forum site/app. My annoyances with it are:
New posts that have nothing to do with any of my interests are brought to my attention in notifications (iOS).
Topics or posts I've commented on are automatically set to alert me with anyone replying - EVEN if not replied to my post or below in a conversation.
* major gripe (not just with Reddit but also with X/Twitter): People do NOT understand hierarchy when it comes to quotes or replying to a specific post.
- Tony says "My iPhone 15 keeps heating up when chargin to 75C anyone else having this issue?" (Tony is the OP)
- Vinnie 1st/2nd/5th poster under Tony says "The colours are nice, but the heat, and camera bump just too much. I miss my iPhone 13 mini should've have sold it. Returning my 15 Pro and looking for a 13 mini).
- Eddie in the same thread says "I've noticed the same yet also when gaming. Gaming is unbareably hot to continue past 45mins" (Eddie did not quote nor reply directly under Vinnie)
- Kyle reply's directly beneath Vinnie (or quotes) and says "Apple has no idea what their doing with their CPU's and using Titanium is a gimmick. They make garbage that's what you get Apple sheep)"

Kyle's has NO idea/understanding of quotes or direct reply's and thus Vinnie would be like WTH is up with Kyle down below me.

^ that's what I cannot stand with Reddit and X/Twitter. Mostly kids with no outlet outside to really vent and ask more detailed, or have more engaging conversations to the topic.

BTW Samsung Communities needs more growth.

I tried liking my S23 for 2 full weeks. There are things I really like about it but the frustrations caused and pain points I’ve experienced and one major disappointment I experienced just didn’t make me happy enough!

1. iOS passwords (from Keychain):
Doesn’t export and no application nor switch service, including password managers ON DEVICE automatically nor a prompt to fully migrate them over. You have to do it one by one by one into Chrome. Password managers seed iOS passwords into their apps/service upon prompt logon to a site.

2. HideMyRelay: some of my account logins are IN this service. I accidentally removed my relay email from Reddit association and you cannot restore or change your logon cause an email for confirmation of your account is sent to whatever email is associated originally. It’s a randomized email smtp that once disassociated you cannot get back. Restoring from iCloud automatically restored my Reddit and other accounts I have.

3. Samsung Dex: The disappointment!
Great desktop experience in the UI shown. Apps if already launched on the devices OneUI existence are promoted to restart to be used in Dex - that’s an annoyance that grows significantly when you have 4GB of apps and running data in RAM!

Chrome on Dex is STILL a mobile experience and the same on iPhone. It’s a JOKE! You cannot get the desktop mode on Sex for Chrome.

4. I have no Samsung devices. I may still get the Tab S9 but if iPad Pro comes with official IP68 then there is no need for that in my life.

5. Auto input of 2FA code messages:
This is SO SEAMLESS and “just works” on iPhone from day one. Downer matter which app, which website nor which authentication code is pushed to me either with iMessage sms or in app. Many times I don’t even have to leave the input screen nor press a virtual button.

6. Apple Health!: I have years of health data that did NOT come over and since 2020 with health deteriorating this is VITAL importance to me as I begin to improve my health.

The S23 is going back to Rogers tomorrow - Return is already processed!

The tight integration performance and efficiency of processing and the OS for iPhone just works for me. Despite its limitations. I’ve said before that the iPhone is a phone first. It is and it works better as that that anything else on the market. No other “Smartphone” should have PHONE in their category without getting things of this mature just right.

Note: passwords saved with Samsung’s account ALSO cannot be exported on device!!

Enjoy your Galaxy’s mates I may return for a Flip in a few years, maybe.

Um ... a bit humbled here.

SO ... after all this ... I got the iPhone 15 Pro in Blue (favourite colour) and it looks sweet.
iOS 17.0.2 update specific to the iPhone Pro models' only immediately prompted me to update, did that.

Restored from iCloud backup and returned gave my 12 mini to my son who's phone broke.

15 Pro
Heat - really gets warm - significantly when charging, a bit less than my 13 mini did over cable: both ridiculously HOT (not warm, HOT).
Heat - Gaming - already posted this in another thread but it was a significant worlds difference beetween the 15P vs the S23. How is the 8Gen2 more efficient at heat management without a vapour chamber even over an hour+ longer playing the same game, no other apps running or loaded?

Bumping:
I'm no fan of Craig running iOS and after making a joke back in 2017 at Android for NFC bumping they build this over glorified huge animation to do the exact same thing when WiFi sharing was much more efficient??? Like what?

Camera BUMP: I'm preaching to the choir here but is it really needed to get that much better photos? I'm hoping I can figure out on S23 from what I've taken before.

Contacts: hugely UGLY contacts full screen layout which is absolution YUCK. If I had major vision issues or was as 3yr old I wouldn't mind. I didn't even enable my own to share but its across all contacts even email contacts. I can't disable it. No thanks.

Samsung Dex: Someone on Redditt or Samsung Communities posted a HUGE thread so gonna look into this more. Also I'll figure out Andronix+FDroid+FedoraCore38 sooner or later!

Auto input of 2FA code:
Someone somewhere mentioned a solution - a missing service app to be installed that isn't there by default on Samsung Galaxy phones. I'll research this.

iOS Passwords/HideMyRelay: I've already done this and manually migrated all that I needed, Reddit was the only 1 that failed oh well not important lol.

Apple Health!: I've been able to export most of the critical data. Unfortunately Canada's Health system is still in 1945 yet with major cuts so sharing self-obtained data with your approved physicians just isn't happening anytime soon. Just have to be more mindful and build on a new foundation.
- I'm interested to see what Samsung brings in January 2024 if their Ring patent results in an Oura Ring competitor - WITHOUT a subscription and undercuts by $100US.

Lastly, the Phone.
I'll have to just make a mental adjustment yet will prefer to use Samsung Phone/Messages app over anything else.

PS: Anyone with youth and young adults notice that their iPhone's tend to break literary 1-2 weeks before new major iPhone release date, yet with valid hardware failure/destruction reasons? First was the iPhone 7 next was last week. lol can't complain he's a good son.

All my passwords transfer over from one Samsung to the next and even if they didn't it would take me an hour max to sort it all out....

Again you are just used to iPhone. It works for you and you feel at home in the walled garden. No shame in that but I wish you guys would stop making out that Apple does things better. It doesn't. It just does those things in a way that you're familiar with.
Ok ... so riddle me this.

Why is there no 'familiar' way at all for Galaxy devices to have SMS Verification Codes auto-fill into any app?
Tones of inquiries across this site and many others and I came across the solution only once.

PS: changing Settings > Accounts > Google > AutoFill is not the answer.

IF something is done much more succinctly and no security issues, then it is the better way K.I.S.S. still is the best model, burring things levels deep in a monolithically pattern goes against the quickest way the human mind can store and relate to specific information. avoidin that to me is better. Not sure what your definition of better way of doing things is - this is an aside to what either of us is used to btw.
