Yeah for sure, from the early hands-on's it looks like Samsung has dramatically improved lowlight photos which is great stuff.

yeah I'm going to enjoy testing that! although ironically as we're talking about what I perceive to be Samsung choosing slower shutter speeds, that could be problematic for me as I prefer a faster shutter, less light and then I'll adjust it afterwards instead of holding the phone still whilst it takes a longer exposure.

so as always, it's a matter of not being able to please everyone all the time :) and learning to use the specific device with all its foibles.

Hate him or not problems like this are real and shouldn’t be ignored. As much as people should praise Samsung for the great things they need to be bashed for simple basic features such as point and shoot

FYI, the Quick Tap shutter changes the behavior of the shutter button to be like the iPhone, ie taking the picture when you first tap on the shutter button instead of when you release it. That doesn’t affect quality.

But of course, these “tech” YouTubers would probably never even bother to check this even in their “reviews.”

Yeah when it comes to low light I think only Vivo 90 pro plus would be better as it stands.

ah I can't test that yet as I dont think camera assistant is available for either the note10+ or the zflip4 which I have... s22/s23 series only I believe. although feels a bit weird for it to be an addon thing rather than just in camera settings by default

something else to try when I receive the new phone!

does look like it makes quite a difference

This guy has done a decent job of first impressions of the S23 Ultra plus good comparison to the S22 Ultra. Camera upgrades looks epic!

Did anyone find anything about pwm on s23… or maybe in 1 month?:(

I'm sensitive to pwm too and tbh I think the only way to tell if it'll affect me is to try it in person (for a decent time and not under shop lighting). Specs, other people, reviews can all say it's perfect and yet a particular screen will make me sick (and vice versa).... so tbh I think you'd need to buy it from somewhere with a good return policy.

“Samsung's camera takes picture when you lift your finger from the shutter button” if true, this is one of most stupid UX decissions Ive ever met
Agree. I'm sure there's probably a reason for it (ie to compensate for lower end phones with much weaker hardware) or could simply be some legacy decision that didn't take into account the vast improvements of the today's hardware. Nonetheless, Samsung provided an option to change the behavior now, so hopefully it would no longer be an issue, especially for a flagship device.

Vivo is seriously impressive, the 90 Pro Plus could set a new benchmark in smartphone night camera photography for this year. I'm very interested to see lowlight comparisons with the 23 Ultra. Hoping Vivo launch the Plus globally, the standard Pro has just gone global.

Sadly not from sounds. X90 pro will be the most premium sold. Pro plus will be china only

Xiaomi 13 ultra is said to be global though when that launches in April. Also said to bring some big improvements

Seems like it’s S23 only for now, unless Samsung backport it to older devices with OneUI 5.1.

FedEx has my delivery set for Monday the 13th. I still have a cancel button and gotta admit, thinking about cancelling this one. The comments about the Shutter Lag is scaring me off.

I finally took the plunge today… Went for the Ultra 512GB in graphite.

I went back and forth on colours so many times. I almost played it safe with the black but figured I would mix things up for a change. Hopefully opting for one of the exclusive colours doesn’t add much too much to the delivery date. Currently expected to be delivered on the 17th.

I also got a leather case in the purchase to knock 10% off the phone price and 30% off the case. That together with the double storage offer has made for a decent overall saving.

Alright, time to put him to my no-watch list then, the same with MrOppoShill. These people clearly are not worth the views as they don't even know what they're talking about.

First, like one user has commented here, motion blur != shutter lag. Second, Samsung's camera takes picture when you lift your finger from the shutter button. This is in contrast with iPhone that takes picture when your finger first tap on the shutter button. This of course can feel like a shutter lag. For a so-called "Tech" youtuber to not even aware to point this out is embarrassing (yeah, MKBHD too).

And the thing is, the S23 now has some new settings that would help prioritize capture speed. It's in the camera assistant menu, called "Quick Tap Shutter" and even further, there's an option for "Capture Speed" where you can set to prioritize speed vs quality. How do I know this? By playing with a demo unit. And these high views tech youtubers don't even mention it? What a joke.
Yeah I was just coming here to post a video that appears on my Twitter feed:

There appears to be a crazy amount of flicker on the non Ultra models as viewed on videos. I don't know how this affects us in person but I already know I struggled to focus on the displays of the S22+ at Best Buy.

Don't let that shutter lag deter you... It's been posted over and over through the last phones and no phone is perfect but at the end of the day Samsung has done really great with the recent phones and I don't expect this one to be any different... I'm standing pat on this one for now and waiting on folds .. I am going to go visit my friends over at BestBuy today and see what they have going on..

Some people might act like it’s not an issue, and for then maybe it’s not, but having a camera that can’t take clear pictures of moving objects is unacceptable in 2023. Camera hardware and software has reached a point where it shouldn’t need such that long to take in enough light to expose the photo properly. And if it does, Samsung really needs to step up their software game.
