He is absolutely right. Its better to enjoy the phone as it is without covers.
Yeah but he's been dropping all of his phones AND mine the last few years! He sent my 14 Pro Max flying when he bungled a handoff to me. And he often carries two or three phones smashed together in his pockets. It's amazing they are pristine when he trades them in, but that's thanks to cases and covers!

yeah.... ip14pm here.... first thing I did before even turning it on was to put a case and cover on it.... and yah know, it DOES take away some of the beauty and nice feel :(

Anyway, neighbour called me over because they were having tech problems, I had the brand new, hours old iphone in my hand, their dog comes right out and jumps on me knocking the phone to the ground.... landed face down on concrete :(

I didnt want to make them feel bad so I just said oh it'll be ok, put it in my pocket, spent 2 hrs helping fix their network before I could go home and look at the damage.

Screen looked completely shattered all over but thankfully, when I removed the glass screen protector (spigen ezfit), the actual screen was perfect underneath not even the smallest scratch!

So yeah, screen protectors and cases for me always

My husband thinks the greater battery life on the S23 series probably owes more to the changes made to the display than to new efficiency from the new processor. Unfortunately those changes are bad for some of us.

yeah probably right :( I'm very surprised that I'm not seeing the problem as I'm USUALLY very prone to it but I'm glad it's missed me this year.

Exactly! We have always had big dogs until my last one passed away in 2019. My last two were well behaved but were really clumsy with their noses. And we visit houses with dogs running around. And we have cats who show affection by head butting whatever you're holding. The kids are practically adults now but not very long ago they were younger and racing around the house and I was always dodging hard heads and elbows.

And I've seen theirs friends' phones after traveling unprotected in their backpacks. I actually got so disgusted with the carnage I insisted on purchasing and installing screen protectors and cases on their friends' phones. Some parents take care of this stuff, but a lot don't and let their kids walk around with phones with shards and slivers of broken displays or shattered glass backs.

Oh I'm so glad you're not. I'm super excited about the S23 series. In my brief full use of it I could see it's exactly what I'd hoped for and would have loved having it for two years, easily, if not for my extreme sensitivity.

I was so pleased to see it worked for my husband in a location we normally struggled to get service. I'm really happy for everyone here who can keep and use theirs. I'm happy for you!

I'm very happy to see the gap between Android and iphone closing. We consumers need choice. Especially in the US. We are so heavily dominated by Apple here. I am really shocked how few choices we have compared to Europe and Asia. So many interesting phones aren't sold here.

The fold4 is only selling for $800ish in the USA market now used. Even some lower. Amazon has it for $1200.
Fold 4 was $1350 USD for Black Friday, so a lot of people got it then. Hence the lower value for a used one now. I am really impressed with my S23 and if there are similar deals on a Fold 5 next Black Friday then I will probably pick one up.

Selling a used phone comes down to how lazy you want to be versus how much money it is worth to work harder and wait longer. I usually just sell to Gazelle because my time is too valuable to work on making my money back, but to each their own. Good luck!

I don't really put screen protectors on, I just can't get away with it, I haven't used one yet that feels as smooth as just the glass screen. I have a Samsung Silicon cover, the one with the grip but I found it too bulky when putting it down, so I removed the grip (it is removable) and find it much better. It's a beautiful phone but I know as soon as I take off the cover, I will drop it and as I am walking, probably drop kick it down the road.

I sell mine through a company here called Mazuma who are very fair, only once have they sent me a message that said there was a scratch on the screen and the offer for the phone would be less.

Battery seems to be good, I am not a power user but copied 230gb of HD music to it from a SD card using a card reader, took a long time because I made a mistake and "moved" all the music rather than "copied" it across. I had to get the Samsung music app to make it simple for myself (I am old and not good at tech) but pleased with how things have gone. I also used it to stream some music so it was used all morning for about 40% usage (I think). The fast charging though is brilliant. I was also pleased to get the free 256gb of storage by ordering early.

yeah I have a colleague who loathes the feel through protectors and she just buys the very best insurance she can from the manufacturers... so she has apple care++++++ or whatever LOL and the same through samsung. Then if anything happens, she just gets it fixed.

That's fine but another colleague decided to follow her lead and had gadget insurance through his bank.... ipad screen got shattered so he sends it away, wow you should've seen the state of it when he got it back! back and sides scratched, dents... screen fitted badly and of course they just claimed it was like that when received.

So moral of the story to me is yep, either way is fine but you get what you pay for

Switched back to the One UI Launcher. I love it. Samsung allows for so much customization that this set up is close to what I had with a third-party launcher.

Also, my favorite thing UI-wise so far is the calendar event widget on the Always on Display screen. So useful. I constantly have my full day schedule without unlocking the phone. Now, all I have on my home screen is a calendar widget just for holidays. Clean. It's these little things Samsung does that I love.

Agreed! My only complaint is that I wish there was an option for weather temperature on AOD.

The AOD one is even better. I forgot how I turned it on, but it’s part of One UI. Here’s how it looks:

yeah see I was hoping for something a bit more exciting on the AOD (I know most people DONT want that on an AOD)... my iphone has a nice weather widget with temp etc.... news/schedule on the other side and the background wallpaper is a visual representation of the actual weather... so cloudy, lightning etc....

Ok so I'm going to be fully switching tonight now that I'm back from Cancun. I'm on e-sim on the iPhone 14 PM. Do I actually have to call T-Mobile to do this?

Yeah, I'm a simple woman. I like clean and minimal set ups in general.

Yes I had no idea until recently that you guys in the US don't have [easy] access the all the cheap but brilliant value Chinese phones. I think it was after reading this wired article about the Samsung A14 where they heralded it as "phenomenal" value. I got a little confused about why they thought it was so good when there are so many better alternatives. Well apparently those Chinese phones aren't easily purchased in the US, although Amazon US has the Redmi Note 10 Pro here. Is it incompatible with US bands or something else?

And just to show the difference in specs for the same price:

Most Xiaomi and other Chinese market phones do not have the cellular bands required for USA. They may have some of the GSM bands but not all of them. There is no official support for warranty in the USA. So if something happens to the phone you have to send it back to China at your cost and hope it gets repaired and sent back to you.

I have bought several inexpensive Chinese phones in the past from various brands and tablets from Aldocube and Teclast. I just won't do it anymore. The low upfront cost is great but there are too many risks once something goes wrong.

Personally a discounted Pixel a/ or Samsung a or used s series is a much better value even if it doesn't have the better hardware that the Chinese OEMs offer.

Not a heavy user then. There hasn't been a phone made yet that I haven't needed to charge at least once a day.
Actually I'm a very heavy user although most of Saturday was spent at my kids sports events and then watching college basketball. I had around 5 hours SOT and nearly 50% battery left which is not as heavy as I typically use my device but not exactly light usage by any stretch.

I wonder if locking the screen as I’ve done with my 13 Pro to 60Hz as I did with mine, would help or if this issue isn’t fixable that way or at all by the customer.
interesting, thats the second or third time I've seen the screen flicker mentioned. I have not noticed it on mine.
