Samsung Trade in nightmare..sad news

When I got the S23 Ultra. I traded in a PERFECT S22 Ultra. Wrapped in bubble wrap with pictures of it and all that to prove it was in perfect share. I sent the trade in back in the box the S23U came in with all the packing materials as well.

I received an email today my trade in has a cracked display and they will charge me $155! WTF! I emailed them and they confirmed it had a crack. They said it was out of their hands as this was a QC issue.
I told them I have pictures of the trade in device with no cracks being packaged and bubble wrapped.
Didn't matter to them. So I asked them to send ithe trade in back to me. they are doing that.

I canceled my S23 Ultra order and I am returning it. I have seen too many bogus return issues posted on other forums matching my exact description.

I love love the S23 Ultra as all of can tell from my posts here in this thread. But as a matter of principle...I cannot take a bogus claim my trade in had a cracked display when I know it did not when I sent it in to Samsung!
Oh my goodness no! What the? I read about that happening to a few people on Android Central but we've heard that for many years now off and on. My husband had a beautiful Burgundy S22 Ultra we packed up and dropped off with FedEx like I did my return S23 Ultra. I hope this is all lies and they didn't crack your screen. You had burgundy too, didn't you?

We left the screen protector on my husband's phone and also made a video. My husband thought I was being silly but I insisted.

One of the people on Android Central fought back on this so you probably should, too. But I know you're busy and don't have all day to spend on this sort of thing any more than the rest of us would, so no judgement from me if you don't.

But the person on AC got their trade in so it may be worth fighting for.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It seems more widespread this year. It's not Samsung per se but the trade in partner they're using.

Unfortunately it happens on Apple trade ins sometimes too. It's starting to become a big risk doing trades as it is doing sales.

I'm now not sorry I'm keeping my S22 Ultra. It's still going to get plenty of use and may eventually get passed along to a kid. I'd like to wean at least one of the young'uns off of iOS.

Damn this sucks. They should at minimum send you a picture of your S22 Ultra. I wonder if you were to escalate this to a manager if anything could be done.

I'm sending in my iPhone this weekend and I think I'm going to actually send pics and a video Samsung's customer service before they even receive it and say something ala "I've seen reports that your trade in department is cracking people's screens. Won't work with me" lol

hmm that's scary :/ I sent in a perfect note10+ still with the screen film on it, in original box! I've had notification of receipt but that's it so far. I hope they're not playing the usual "trade in game" where the operatives try it on by telling the sender it's damaged and offering much less for it. If you say "oh ok" then they resell it for themselves, if you say "no send it back" they damage it and send it back to you.

A bit more worried about mine now :/

I’ve seen one incident where Samsung emailed the user saying the phone was missing in the box.

User requested footage of the process… Samsung emailed the video and the agent who was inspecting the phone never unravel the shrink wrap that contain the phone lol.

These situation are handled by 3rd party companies without Samsung involvement… that’s why Samsung advises people to record their own footage before shipping off. And that’s why it shocked me when @jamezr mention Samsung dismiss his footage, because normally if user has footage they bypass the 3rd party company to fulfill the trade in.

Very true. I wouldn't be surprised if jamezr pushed back more and goes full of Karen, if he'll get it taken care of.

Sorry about the trade in situation. That's just terrible. I actually decided to just keep my 13 PM that I was going to trade in and just let them charge me back the trade in credit. I'm either going to sell it on swappa or give it to my son. He's on a S20 FE and he has been wanting an iPhone, so I might just go that route.

I sure hope you get back your same device in the condition you sent it. I don't see how Samsung has these mistakes so often. It also happened alot on Pixel trade ins from what I saw on Reddit.
I have traded in Samsung devices in 4 different countries with 0 issues

I have even traded in Samsung phones and watches bought in different countries with 0 issues

I had my US bought Razer laptop repaired FOC in Singapore and my Malay MS Surface book 2 repaired in Ireland FOC

The only devices I have had trouble with is with Apple products bought outside of UAE and either tried to trade in or get repaired and with my wife's old Macbook I could not get repaired in Malaysia. Each time I got hit with the Apple clause of must be done in country of origin/purchase

YMMV

I've had zero issues as well. But I've seen many people with trade in issues such as what jamezr is dealing with.

I just decided to keep my device because with the lower trade in values they are offering this year it really isn't worth dealing with trading it in. I could sell my trade in for more if I choose to go that route.

I’m sorry to hear that bro .. what a nightmare with these trade in devices that they are obviously damaging and rejecting …I would still get to a manager or call Samsung about the issue …escalate it in meantime while you wait …

I think Samsung has largely fixed the delayed notifications issue? I still have a few notifications flood in when I unlock my phone, but nowhere near as bad as with previous Samsung devices.

Yeah same here. I have had a couple of apps go to sleep on me which was a bit frustrating because I would have liked that notification. But still much better.

Yeah I think I had read in years past people had to go up the chain once or twice to finally get Samsung to honor the full trade and amount.

From what I saw over on Android Central, and I didn't finish reading the entire thread yet, the phones going to Coppell TX for trade are getting automated rejections sent to customers. If you call customer service they so far have honored the trade in.

My return went to Coppell Texas as well. I hope they give me my money back!

The other location for traded devices apparently is somewhere in Tennessee. So far as I saw in that discussion, there were no issues at the Tennessee location.

Thank you...
I know if I escalated the issue I could probably get a favorable resolution. But at this point the loss of my trust is weighing pretty heavy on me right now. I should not have to jump through hoops so to speak to get samsung to do the right thing.
They might have contracted the return process out to another comapny. But that is still on them to vet and make sure the process is run smoothly. We are stiill Samsung customers after all.

On the flip side, you might be able to escalate, get your full trade in, and a pretty hefty gift card for your inconvenience.

Is there anything better than a cat in a box??

That is one adorable kitty.

I have a jack chi puppy from the SPCA and have been wanting to add a kitty for a while but we live in a two bedroom apartment and cat litter box is an issue plus the extra cost so for now we are waiting.

But every time I see a picture like this it makes me want a feline friend so much.

I really like the coat on your cat. Cats are so much fun and a little trouble with the claws sometimes too. Lol

I've successfully set up AirMessage on the S23+ and my office PC via VMware workstation, as it is powered on 24/7 just set it and forget it. Took a while watching a great YT video on how to properly get iServices running on a virtual Mac machine using Clover configurator, it works flawlessly (using my Apple ID rather than phone number, it'll remain activated this way).

One (very giant) step closer to not needing an iPhone. iCloud photos and sharing is now the only remaining issue I need to tackle; FaceTime I can live without.

Scratches head at iMessage actually being a genuine deal breaker.

Best I can do with the Z Fold 4:

I am in the U.S. and my entire family and friend base use iMessage. They won't use any other messaging app, it's a lost cause and they are too ingrained in the ecosystem. My situation is typical of a lot of people in the U.S., people won't use multiple chat apps.

Not to mention it just feels extremely satisfying using iMessage on an S23+.

Here's one on Reddit just posted today and they got the issue resolved. I wouldn't give up. Too damn great of a device.

Been using AirMessage for several months now on my Z Fold 4, Pixel 7 Pro, and now S23U. Working flawlessly on all of them. It's tough at first to get everyone to save your apple id email to send messages to but once you do it's golden. Ive only has a couple issues where I've lost connection and I've just had to restart the server app on my Mac.
