Camera isn't the most consistent but I think updates will fix that. But man this camera can just flat out capture shots others can't.

Hey all. For those of you with the S23 Ultra, what cases are you using? I switch between the tan Samsung leather and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid with MagSafe. I'd like to add one or two more into my mix, something thin and smaller preferably. I'd love your suggestions!

I don't have my phone yet, but I have two Spigen hybrid cases. Lol One that is clear and the other is the one that shows the internals.

I love Spigen cases because they are cheap and well made. There are a billion Chinese off brand cases and a lot of those are good but Spigen costs about the same and I know it will fit and protect my phone.

Other brands I have used and like are the Zagg gear 4 Denali which offers a lot of protection while still being slim and uses d30 polymer and the Milan aurora to show off.

I am not a fan of leather cases or the cases that cover the phone personally just because they generally cost a lot. The Zagg I generally get 50% off or more when they are on sale. I use the Spigen 's until then.

Battery just keeps getting better. It only drained 2% last night while on the nightstand. Took it off the charger around 10pm last night and stayed up a couple hours reading on it. Been in bed all day using it without charging. By the way this norovirus crap sucks. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Oh no! Get well soon! Yeah I was flat out of commission about a couple weeks ago, too. I don’t know what it was. I just know it wasn’t Covid. Something has been plowing through here, that’s for sure. I spent a lot of time on screens, too.

I think your observations a far nearer the norm for most :)

SMS has been on the decline for years now and is mainly propped up by the institutions you note (eg Banks/2 factor etc)

There is obviously a natural bias on reporting how important or common imessage is in the US as we are on an Apple forum and like most of us native English speaking members we tend to read from sites, influencers, reviews etc etc that are mostly American :)

What scarce and factual data we have seems to imply the popularity is overly stated and more from the natural bias we read than reality

Simply from market dominance Apple is just over 50-54% so almost half of the US are not using Imessages :). Messenger was the dominant e message service in US and Whats-app was getting on for 100m users in the US.

We because of where we choose to read or interact are likely to see more of this bias where whole groups or families only have Imessage contacts

Of course there are groups and clumps of people that are part of social and economic demographics that for many varied reasons eg marketing, fashion and status to name a few propagate some aspects and as we have seen recently not always in a healthy way among teens
I see a true mix of Android and iPhone when I’m generally out and about.

It’s just among parents that I have to deal with through kids’ friendships or school functions that I am locked into iMessages. They are mostly iPhone users.

I buy my sister-in-law her phones and have kept her on iPhone for simplicity sake.

With my husband’s brother and other sister-in-law, they’re a mixed marriage: he’s on Samsung and she’s on iPhone. 🤣. I do not directly communicate with them. My husband texts them through SMS or Facebook Messenger.

Nieces and nephews are a mix and on Facebook Messenger. They communicate with me via email since I left FB.

Thanks 😀 Just can't catch a break. Kicked Covid pretty easy a couple weeks ago then this stomach virus runs throughout the house like crazy. Literally one after another we got it and it went through my daughter's entire cheer team this past week. Luckily it doesn't stick around long.

I don't think that is very good, you barely use it.

On Wi-Fi only or cellular? or a mix of both?
Both. I've had just about every Samsung flagship since the Galaxy S3. Ive never seen one even close to this good. Particularly the standby. Most of the time a little over 5 hours screen on time was considered good.

So for the first time I charged my new S23 Ultra overnight, I can already see a difference in the battery life. I managed to check my email and send a few messages on WhatsApp before the battery dropped to 99%, normally on my S22 Ultra it would drop down to that in a few minutes.

I will be using my S23 Ultra all day today, so by the end of my day I will have a more clear picture on battery life, so far I'm happy.

I have the Samsung flip cover and the blue silicone case from the preorder bonus. The flip cover looks and feels too plastic and "cheap" but does its job. I then bought a ringke matte clear back case to show off the blue color.

I got the Clear Gadget case through my husband’s preorder bonus credit. He wanted just a leather case, which he likes a lot, but is slippery. So he used the other credit on the clear Gadget Case. It’s really hard to put on abs take off. I nearly broke it trying to remove it from the phone I was returning and it messed up the clear plastic protectors Samsung puts on the frame of the phone. So it’s possible over time it could scratch a colored frame.

Functionally it was fine and it let the color of the phone shine through. But the ring only lets you prop the phone up horizontally not vertically. I’d rather use a hybrid clear case and attach my own ring.

If you were to ask me to name 3 things about this phone that I am loving compared to the last time I tried a Samsung phone over 2 years ago and coming from Apple:

- Camera is much more reliable. Yeah I still do get blurry photos here and there when the dogs don't sit still but I think the Pixel is pretty much the only phone that fixes that, but the Quick Tap Shutter fixes a ton of the issues I had years ago. Really excited to try some of the other Pro features that I haven't even touched yet. Definitely the most diverse camera on the market, at least in the US!

- For the first time, it does the basics better: We're talking call quality and signal here. Both much better. I pick up my kids from school each day and sit in the same spot in the parking lot while answering work emails and Slack messages. On the iPhone, I could barely connect to 5g and I would miss messages. On the S23 Ultra, I have consistent date (although not blazing fast...definitely is a dead zone) and I can actually work while sitting there and waiting for my kids.

- App Quality is FINALLY on par with Apple: Other than maybe an annoyance here and there (like no dark mode on ESPN and LinkedIn where Apple has it), I cannot speak to even one app that doesn't function as well on this phone as it did the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Or if there is a difference, someone would literally have to point it out to me.

I'm also happy to say that I got through the initial pains of not having iMessage and people complaining about green bubbles. Such a ridiculous conversation to even have.

Samsung Trade in nightmare..sad news

When I got the S23 Ultra. I traded in a PERFECT S22 Ultra. Wrapped in bubble wrap with pictures of it and all that to prove it was in perfect share. I sent the trade in back in the box the S23U came in with all the packing materials as well.

I received an email today my trade in has a cracked display and they will charge me $155! WTF! I emailed them and they confirmed it had a crack. They said it was out of their hands as this was a QC issue.
I told them I have pictures of the trade in device with no cracks being packaged and bubble wrapped.
Didn't matter to them. So I asked them to send ithe trade in back to me. they are doing that.

I canceled my S23 Ultra order and I am returning it. I have seen too many bogus return issues posted on other forums matching my exact description.

I love love the S23 Ultra as all of can tell from my posts here in this thread. But as a matter of principle...I cannot take a bogus claim my trade in had a cracked display when I know it did not when I sent it in to Samsung!

You told them you had pictures and it didn’t matter, now… that’s alarming.

I was worried about the trade in process when I did it with my Fold 2 and there were a few post in the reddit forum claiming Samsung tried to give them a hard time. But as soon as the user mention that pictures and videos were recorded, Samsung immediately pushed the trade in through at no cost.

Completely understand. I’ll do the same... horrible to be in put in that situation though.

Never used it, so all good here haha.

Lucky you

Best weather app on iOS by many country miles, updated on a very regular basis, subscription model required however, much like it is required on the Android app, and the latter has not been updated in TWO years.

Thanks man, already almost back to myself!

Sorry about the trade in situation. That's just terrible. I actually decided to just keep my 13 PM that I was going to trade in and just let them charge me back the trade in credit. I'm either going to sell it on swappa or give it to my son. He's on a S20 FE and he has been wanting an iPhone, so I might just go that route.

I sure hope you get back your same device in the condition you sent it. I don't see how Samsung has these mistakes so often. It also happened alot on Pixel trade ins from what I saw on Reddit.
